Nowadays,food security is a global concern and a great scientific ***-industrial by-products can be used as potential ingredients of innovative food products,contributing to solve this societal ***-products of high specialty oils processing,for instance,have remarkable nutritional and organoleptic ***,the partially delipidified almond flour(PDAF)remaining from almond oil extraction,was used as an alternative ingredient in a highly appreciated almond-based cookie(“almendrados”).For comparison purposes,four different“almendrados”formulations(one industrial,two with PDAF,and one with whole almond flour),were compared regarding nutritional composition,vitamin E and fatty acids *** assess the cookie sensory properties,seventy-four consumers evaluated“appearance”,“taste”,“sweetness”,“crunchiness”,“hardness”,“overall quality”using adequate hedonic *** and protein levels showed significant differences among industrial and the other three *** with PDAF presented similar tocopherols and fatty acids to the traditional(more expensive)formulation,besides reaching the highest scores on“appearance”,“sweetness”,“hardness”,“overall quality”and“buying predisposition”***,the incorporation of PDAF might represent an effective way of adding value to an industrial by-product,while providing a pleasant novel cookie formulation.

Leishm.niasis is an infectious disease that affects both animals and humans, caused by flagellated parasites belonging to the genus Leishm.nia. The disease is estimated to reach about 700,000 to 1 million people, causing the deaths of 20 to 30,000 individuals annually. Thus, the present study aims to perform molecular docking tests and evaluation of antileishm.nia activity in vitro of a ruthenium complex with epiisopiloturine and nitric oxide. AutoDockTools-1.5.6 software was used to perform molecular docking tests. molecular targets were considered rigid, and Epiruno2 considered flexible. The genetic algorithm Lamarckian (AGL) with global search and pseudo-Solis and Wets with local search were the methods adopted in the docking. The most promising results of molecular interaction were achieved in the targets Pteridine reductase and UDP-glucose Pyrophosphorylase with rates of -10.68 Kcal·mol-1 and -10.51 Kcal·mol-1, respectively. This demonstrates that Epiruno2 has molecular affinity with the targets of L. major. In vitro assays prove the antileishm.nia activity of the complex in the face of promastigote forms with inhibition of growth, concluding through this study that the Epiruno2 complex has antileishm.nia activity.

Evaluation of milk Compositional Quality and mammary Gland Health of Dairy Herds in the Southwestern Brazilian Amazon

Samples of raw milk from bulk cooling tanks were collected in five municipalities of the Southwestern Brazilian Amazon to establish the prevalence of Staphylococcus aueus and Streptococcus agalactiae, as well as to evaluate the milk composition and its correlation with the bulk tank somatic cell count (BTSCC). A total of 250 samples were collected to investigate the causal agents of bovine mastitis in whole milk, from 50 bulk milk tanks in each municipality. Under laboratory conditions, the samples were diluted to 1/10 and 1/100, and samples of 0.1 ml from each dilution were plated in triplicate on selective media for Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus agalactiae. To evaluate the correlation between the major milk components (fat, protein and lactose) and the BTSCC, samples were collected for 18 months from 73 dairy herds. The presence of the above-mentioned contagious mastitis pathogens was detected in 97.2% (243/250) of refrigerated raw milk samples evaluated. Analysis of the major milk components and BTSCC demonstrated that during the study period, fat compo-nent showed the largest variance, followed by protein and lactose, which also showed significant variances.

Quantitative scintigraphic analysis of the apical seal in Thermafil/Topseal and Real Seal 1/Realseal filled root canals

AIm: To investigate the microleakage of two different root canal obturation systems, using the nuclear medicine ***: Twenty-six single-rooted extracted teeth were selected. The crowns were sectioned to obtain 15-mm long root segments and each tooth was prepared using rotary Pro File instruments. The roots were divided into 2 experimental groups using Real Seal 1 and Real Seal sealer or Thermafil and Top Seal sealer as well as two control groups. On the 7th and the 28 th day the apices were submersed in a solution of 99 m TcPertechnetate during 3 h. The radioactivity was counted using a γ camera. RESULTS: The present study showed that none of the root canal-filled teeth was leakage free. The statistical analyses were made using Kruskal-Wallis and statistical significance was assessed using α = 0.05. Although apical leakage measured in counts per minute(cpm) in the Thermafil/Top Seal group was lower than in the Real Seal/Real Seal group(363 916 ± 180 707.7 cpm vs533 427 ± 414 020.6 cpm) on 7th day and(1 678 200 ± 567 217.4 cpm vs 2 240 518 ± 383 356.7 cpm) on 28 th day, there was no statistical difference(P > 0.05). In the Thermafil/Top Seal group and Real Seal 1/Real Seal group it was found that over time, the number of counts increased between 7 d and 28 d(363 916 ± 180 707.7 cpm vs 1 678 200 ± 567 217.4 cpm) and(533 427 ± 414 020.6 cpm vs 2 240 518 ± 383 356.7 cpm), respectively, with statistically significant differences(Thermafil/Top Seal group, P = 0.015 and Real Seal 1/Real Seal group, P = 0.036).CONCLUSION:Both carrier-based Realseal 1 and Thermafil techniques showed a similar sealing effect,but none of the materials was leakage free.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Long term follow-up of 83 patients

AIm: To analyzes the clinical, paraclinical, therapeutical and evolutive features of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).mETHODS: All the patients treated for a nasopharyngeal carcinoma between 2000 and 2013 in the Ear-NoseThroat Department of the military Hospital of Tunis, Tunisia were collected in this study. Eighty-three patients signed a written consent prior to study enrollment. The gender ratio(m/W) was 6.5 with a median age of 49 years(range 16-85). The median follow up time was 37 mo(18 to 108 mo). The evolution, during and after the end of therapy, was assessed on clinical biological and radiological exams. Different parameters were analyzed and compared to other series: complications of chemo and radiotherapy, recurrence of the disease, metastasis and overall survival ***: Of the 83 patients of our study, 15% had T1 tumors, 20% had T2, 23% had T3 and 41% had T4 disease. At the time of diagnosis, 14% of the patients had a cranial nerve deficit. Only 12 patients had exclusive radiotherapy and the remaining of our patients had concomitant radio chemotherapy. Iatrogenic complications were diagnosed in 53% of the cases: radioepithelitis(28%), radiodermatitis(9%), xerostomia(17%), osteoradionecrosis(3%), cerebral radionecrosis(1%) and a pancytopenia(17%). The follow-up period varied from 18 to 108 mo(average: 37 mo). During the first six months after treatment, a persistence of the disease was found in 11% of patients, while a recurrence of the cancer was diagnosed in 6% and distant metastasis developed in 14% of the patients. Fifteen patients needed remedial chemotherapy for a relapse or metastasis and five had palliative chemotherapy for very advanced cases. We report 3 cases of death during the follow-up. CONCLUSION: Despite its excellent radio-chemotherapy response, and general good prognosis, a careful follow-up of patients with NPC is necessary to detect and manage any iatrogenic complication, locoregional recurrence or metastasis of the disease.

Prognostic value of increased carbohydrate antigen in patients with heart failure
