Anti-ganglioside antibodies are associated with delayed/poor clinical recovery in Guillain-Barrèsyndrome,mostly related to halted axon ***-linking of cell sur.ace gangliosides by anti-ganglioside antibodies triggers inhibition of nerve repair in in vitro and in vivo paradigms of axon *** effects involve the activation of the small GTPase rho A/rOCK signaling pathways,which negatively modulate growth cone cytoskeleton,similarly to well stablished inhibitors of axon regeneration described so *** aim of this work was to perform a proof of concept study to demonstrate the effectiveness of Y-27632,a selective phar.acological inhibitor of rOCK,in a mouse model of axon regeneration of peripheral nerves,where the passive immunization with a monoclonal antibody targeting gangliosides GD1a and GT1b was previously reported to exert a potent inhibitory effect on regeneration of both myelinated and unmyelinated *** results demonstrate a differential sensitivity of myelinated and unmyelinated axons to the pro-regenerative effect of *** with a total dosage of 9 mg/kg of Y-27632 resulted in a complete prevention of anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody-mediated inhibition of axon regeneration of unmyelinated fibers to skin and the functional recovery of mechanical cutaneous *** contrast,the same dose showed toxic effects on the regeneration of myelinated ***,scale down of the dosage of Y-27632 to 5 mg/kg resulted in a significant although not complete recovery of regenerated myelinated axons exposed to anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody in the absence of toxicity in animals exposed to only ***,these findings confirm the in vivo participation of rho A/rOCK signaling pathways in the molecular mechanisms associated with the inhibition of axon regeneration induced by anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal *** findings open the possibility of therapeutic phar.acological intervention targeting rho A/r

metal-or.anic frameworks(mOFs)are attracting incr.asing interests as photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production from *** paper reports on a comparative study of using either.acetic acid(AA)or trifluor.acetic acid(TFA)as the representative UiO-66 or.anic modulators for synthesizing visible light responsive UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:NH_(2) or NO_(2))photocatalysts for water *** results show that photocatalytic hydrogen generation from a water/methanol mixture can be improved by varying the nature and amount of the modulator employed to prepare the different UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:NH_(2) or NO_(2))solid ***-66(Zr)-NH_(2) was the most active photocatalyst,followed by UiO-66(Zr)-NO_(2),both prepared with 12 equivalents of AA with respect to the or.anic *** UiO-66(Zr)-NH_(2) solid was more active than the parent mOF in photocatalytic overall water splitting(OWS)(H_(2) and O_(2) production of 450 and 160μmol·g^(-1),respectively,in 5 h;apparent quantum yield(AQY)at 400 nm of 0.06%)in the absence of methanol and compares favourably with analogous *** on the photocatalytic activity of the most active solids of both series was obtained by means of a series of techniques,including ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)diffuse reflectance,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),laser flash photolysis(LFP),electron spin resonance(ESr),photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical measurements together with density functional theory(DFT)*** results showed that or.anic acid modulators can be used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of missing linker UiO-66 defective mater.als in solar-powered water splitting.

Habanero pepper(Capsicum chinense Jacq.)is a crop of economic relevance in the Peninsula of *** fruits have a high level of capsaicinoids compared to peppers grown in other regions of the world,which gives them industr.al *** is an impor.ant factor that affects pepper development,nutritional quality,and capsaicinoid ***,the effect of soil type on fruit development and capsaicinoid metabolism has been little *** work aimed to compare the effect of soils with contrasting characteristics,black soil(BS)and red soil(rS),on the expression of genes related to the development of fruits,and capsaicinoid synthesis using a transcriptomic analysis of the habanero pepper *** growing in rS had bigger fruits and higher expression of genes related to floral development,fruit abscission,and softening which suggests that rS stimulates fruit development from early stages until maturation *** from plants growing in BS had enrichment in metabolic pathways related to growth,sugars,and ***,these fruits had higher capsaicinoid accumulation at 25 days post-anthesis,and higher expression of genes related to the branched-chain amino acids metabolism(ketol-acid reductisomerase KArI),pentose phosphate pathway and production of NADPH(glucose-6-phosphate-1-dehydrogenase G6PDH),and proteasome and vesicular traffic in cells(26S proteasome regulatory subunit T4 rPT4),which suggest that BS is better in the early stimulation of pathways related to the nutritional quality and capsaicinoid metabolism in the fruits.

Aim： To establish a rat and mouse epididymal map based on the use of the Epiquatre automatic software for histologic image analysis. methods： Epididymides from five adult rats and five adult mice were fixed in alcoholic Bouin＇s fixative and embedded in paraffin. Ser.al longitudinal sections through the medial aspect of the or.an were cut at 10 jam and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. As determined from major connective tissue septa, nine subdivisions of the rat epididymis and seven for the mouse were determined, consisting of five sub-regions in the caput （rat and mouse）, one （mouse） or three （rat） in the corpus and one in the cauda （rat and mouse）. Using the Epiquatre software, several tubular, luminal and epithelial morphometric parameters were evaluated. results： Statistical comparison of the quantitative parameters revealed regional differences （2-5 in the rat, 3-6 in the mouse, dependent on parameters） with caput regions 1 and 2 being largely distinguishable from the similar remaining caput and corpus, which were in turn recognizable from the cauda regions in both species. Conclusion： The use of the Epiquatre software allowed us to establish regression curves for different morphometric parameters that can permit the detection of changes in their values under different pathological or experimental conditions. （Asian J Androl 2005 Sep; 7： 267-275）

rutile ger.anium oxide(rutile GeO_(2)),a semiconductor,can act as a half-metallic compound and is a promising mater.al for spintronic and optoelectronic *** were performed using the Korringa–Kohn–rostoker(KKr.appr.ach and the coherent potential approximation(CPA),which were further combined with two approximations,the local density approximation(LDA)and the self-interaction corrected LDA approximation(LDA-SIC),to study the electronic structure of bulk rutile GeO_(2) doped and co-doped with three transition-metal impurities:Fe,Co,and *** doping value was set to 10%,while the co-doping level was set to 5%for each *** main findings of this work are:(1)a direct ultrawide bandgap of4.80 eV is observed and the rutile GeO_(2) exhibits an N-type semiconducting property.(2)Doped and co-doped GeO_(2) acquire a magnetic behavior.and exhibit half-metallicity.(3)The mechanism responsible for these properties is also studied.(4)The critical temperature can r.ach 334 K when GeO_(2) is doped with Fe,while it rises to 398 K when it is co-doped with Fe and Co.(5)The spin polarization can be improved by *** can be inferred that rutile GeO_(2) doped or codoped with(Co,Fe)transition metals can be considered to be potential candidates for spintronic and optoelectronic applications.

meningoencephalitis secondary to Lister.a monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) mainly affects newborns, the elderly and immunocompromised people;there are extremely rare cases in which said infection occurs in immunocompetent individuals. We present the case of a young adult patient without immunocompromise, who developed meningoencephalitis due to L. monocytogenes;This case is exceptional, since it occurred in an individual outside the classic age group, in addition to not having risk factors, which is why it should be considered an atypical causal agent.

Synthesis of Pt and Pt-Fe nanoparticles supported on mWCNTs used as electrocatalysts in the methanol oxidation r.action

This work reports a feasible synthesis of highly-dispersed Pt and Pt-Fe nanoparticles supported on multiwall carbon nanotubes （mWCNTs） without Fe and multiwall carbon nanotubes with iron （mWCNTs-Fe） which applied as electrocatalysts for methanol electrooxidation. A Pt coordination complex salt was synthesized in an aqueous solution and it was used as precursor to prepare Pt/mWCNTs, Pt/mWCNTs-Fe, and Pt-Fe/mWCNTs using FeC12.4H20 as iron source which were named S 1, S2 and S3, respectively. The coordination complex of platinum （TOA）2PtC16 was obtained by the chemical r.action between （NH4）2PtC16 with tetraoctylammonium bromide （TOAB） and it was characterized by FT-Ir.and TGA. The mater.als were characterized by raman spectroscopy, SEm, EDS, XrD, TEm and TGA. The electrocatalytic activity of Pt-based supported on mWCNTs in the methanol oxidation was investigated by cyclic voltammetry （CV） and chronoamperometry （CA）. Pt-Fe/mWCNTs electrocatalysts showed the highest electrocatalytic activity and stability among the tested electrocatalysts due to that the addition of ＂Fe＂ promotes the OH species adsorption on the electrocatalyst sur.ace at low potentials, thus, enhancing the activity toward the methanol oxidation r.action （mOr）.
