nano-and m..ro-particles are being increasingly used to tune interfacial frictional properties in diverse applications,from..riction m..ifiers in industrial lubrication to enhanced biological fluids in hum.. osteoarthritic ***,we assessed the tribological properties of a sim..ated synovial fluid enriched with non-spherical,poly lactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA)m..roparticles(μPL)that have been previously dem..strated for the pharm..ological m..agem..t of osteoarthritis(OA).Three different μPL configurations were fabricated presenting a 20μm..0μm..quare base and a thickness of 5μm..hin,5H μPL),10μm..0H μPL),and 20μm..ubical,20H μPL).After extensive m..phological and physicochem..al characterizations,the apparent Young’s m..ulus of the μPL was quantified under com..essive loading returning an average value of~6 kPa,independently of the particle ***,using a linear two-axis tribom..er,the static(μ_(s))and dynam..(μ_(d))friction coefficients of the μPL-enriched sim..ated synovial fluid were determ..ed in term..of particle configuration and concentration,varying from..(fluid only)to 6×10^(5) μPL/*** particle m..phology had a m..est influence on friction,possibly because the μPL were fully squeezed between two m..ing surfaces by a 5.8 n norm.. load realizing boundary-like lubrication ***,friction was observed to depend on the dim..sionless param..erW,defined as the ratio between the total volum..of the μPL enriching the sim..ated synovial fluid and the volum..of the fluid *** coefficients of friction were docum..ted to grow withWreaching a plateau of μ_(s)~0.4 and μ_(d)~0.15,already at Ω~2×10^(-3).Future investigations will have to system..ically analyze the effect of sliding velocity,norm.. load,and rigidity of the m..ing surfaces to elucidate in full the tribological behavior of μPL in the context of osteoarthritis.

为提高磁流变制动器制动能效,提出一种多盘连续可变磁流变液工作间隙结构的磁流变制动器。在AnSYS workbench环境下完成不同电流、间隙状态下的三维静态磁场仿真,对磁场沿工作间隙分布状况进行分析,通过试验台架对制动器性能进行测试。结果表明,磁流变液工作区域磁矢量分布相对均匀,无明显积聚现象,磁路设计合理。理论与实验结果变化趋势基本吻合,但在电流较大时,两者之间误差呈逐渐增大趋势。制动力矩在0~2.5 A电流变化区间增速较快,而在2.5~4.0 A区间明显放缓,最大力矩达到146.4 n·m..间隙未改变状态增加25.80%。设计的制动器TVR值达到48.81 kn·m..^(3),较传统磁流变制动器结构更紧凑,力矩调节范围更广,设计思路及实验结论对磁流变制动器结构的进一步研究具有借鉴意义。

Seasonal changes in Porteresia coarctata (Tateoka) beds along a subtropical coast

Shoot density, standing crop （above- and below-ground biom..s） and habitat of salt m..sh grass Porteresia coarctata were investigated along the coast of Bakkhali estuary, Cox＇s Bazar, Bangladesh from..anuary to Decem..r 2006. Shoot density of P. coarctata was influenced by season and was found to be higher （〉2 500 shoots/m.. in post-m..soon and m..im.. in m..soon season; plants were particularly active in vegetative propagation during pre-m..soon. Above-ground biom..s was greater along the protected coast com..red with the exposed one in this estuary. Below-ground biom..s was higher （7.75-269.53 g DW/m.. than that above ground （2.20-114.75 g DW/m... Standing crops ofP. coarctata showed a negative relationship （R=-0.77; P〈0.05） with sedim..tation rate, while seasonal activity influenced sedim..tation. The recorded sedim..tation rate was lower （6.09 m..（cm..d）） in pre-m..soon and highest （14.55 m..（cm..d）） in m..soon season. The m..n value of pore water salinity was higher （34.25±65.05） during post-m..soon and lowest （18.0±3.71） in m..soon season. The soil was sandy clay in this P. coarctata bed; it consisted of 86% sand, 13% clay and 1% silt. Soil organic m..ter dropped during the m..soon season （0.78%-0.67%） and was highest （（2.17±1.42）%-（2.3±1.47）%） during post-m..soon, probably owing to accum..ation of decom..sed peat on the m..sh surface. The m..n pore water nH4-n concentration ranged from...444-1.65 to 3.33±1.82 μg/L, with a m..im.. air tem..rature of 22.09℃ in post-m..soon and a m..im.. of 31.16℃ in pre-m..soon. Variations of physico-chem..al param..ers in the soil, water, and clim..e governed biological param..ers of P. coarctata in the Bakkhali estuary, and were com..rable with estuarine environm..ts elsewhere.

Due to current trend and increasing interest towards natural based fiber products, Kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus)fibers have been used for the developm..ts of m..y products. Therefore, Kenaf fiber-reinforced com..sites have been widely used in engineering and industrial applications. The present work deals with the fabricating and characterization of untreated and treated kenaf/polypropylene(PP)-reinforced com..sites. Com..sites of PP reinforced with treated and untreated kenaf fibers were fabricated using the injection m..ding *** fiber loadings of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 wt% treated and untreated kenaf com..sites were also prepared. Xray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron m..roscopy(SEm.. Fourier transform..nfrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and therm..gravim..ric analysis(TGA) were perform.. on the treated, untreated kenaf fibers and kenaf/PP com..sites. m..eover, the alkaline-treated kenaf com..sites exhibit better physical, m..phological, and m..hanical properties because of the com..tibility of kenaf with PP. However, variations in tensile and flexural properties depend on treatm..t and kenaf fiber contents. The percentage increase in the m..hanical properties of the treated kenaf/PP com..sites relative to that of PP was also m..sured. In addition, 40 wt%kenaf fiber loading resulted in higher m..hanical properties. By contrast, kenaf/PP com..site with 50% fiber loading was not successfully prepared because of im..oper m..ing and the burning of kenaf fibers in the PP m..rix. To conclude, 40% kenaf/PP com..sites with superior physical and m..hanical properties m.. be used in variety of applications such as autom..ive, sports, construction, anim.. bedding, and m..s production industries.

There are several m..als that form..hm.. contacts for ZnO thin film.. such as copper, alum..um..nd silver. The aim..f this work is to m..e a com..rison between these ohm.. contacts. To achieve this purpose, polycrystalline ZnO thin film..were prepared by the spray pyrolysis technique, and characterized by the I-V m..surem..ts at room..em..rature. Two strips of each m..al were therm..ly evaporated on the surface of the film..nd m..surem..ts were first recorded in the dark and room..ight, then in the dark before and after annealing for A1, which was found to be the best in the set. Film..with alum..um..ontacts gave the sm..lest resistivity, best ohm..ity and they are slightly affected by light as required. On the other hand, copper was found to be the worst, and film..with copper contacts gave the largest resistivity, worst ohm..ity and they are the m..t affected by light. Annealing im..oved the alum..um..ontacts due to alloying and doping.

Fourth instar larvae of Chironom.. kiiensis (Tokunaga) were exposed to various concentrations of two com..nly used herbicides: 2,4 - D Dim..hylam..e and Bensulfuron m..hyl in the rice fields. The bioassay experim..t was carried out in a rearing unit in the laboratory at a room..em..rature ((27 ±2) °C). A thin layer of sand sedim..ts and tissue papers were provided as substrate in each unit. Each concentration of all herbicides was prepared in 250 m..distilled water. The experim..t was perform.. in triplicate and 20 chironom.. larvae were placed in each rearing unit. The larvae were fed with fish food (Sanyuichiban®) at 2 d intervals and all units were aerated by air pum... The experim..t was m..itored every 24 h for m..tality of C. kiiensis. The 2,4 - D Dim..hylam..e bioassay was carried out for 24 h while Bensulfuron m..hyl was run for 72 h. Dead larvae, pupae and living or dead adults were counted and rem..ed daily. The LC50 of 2,4 - D Dim..hylam..e was 2 638 m..ai L-1, m..e than 2 000 tim.. higher than the recom..nded dose of 0.753 m..ai L-1 used for controlling weeds in the rice field. Bensulfuron m..hyl was m..e toxic than the 2,4 - D Dim..hylam..e. The LC 50 of the Bensulfuron m..hyl was recorded at 1.29 m..ai L -1, and approxim..ely was m..e 20 tim.. than that of the recom..nded dose of 0.057 m..ai L-1. Bensulfuron m..hyl was found to be slow acting. The m..tality of the larvae was only observed after 72 h. However, this herbicide interfered with the em..gence of C. kiiensis to adults at and above the recom..nded dose used in the rice fields. Based on their LC50 values, this study showed that applying these herbicides in the rice fields at doses recom..nded by the m..ufacturers was safe for C. kiiensis and presum..ly to other living organism..in the water.

PrrOll nanoparticles were obtained by subsequent therm.. decom..sition of the as-prepared precipitate form.. under am..ent tem..rature and pressure using naOH as precipitant. The calcination process was affected, for 1 h in static air atm..phere, at 400-700 ℃ tem..rature range. The different sam..es were characterized using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, transm..sion electron m..roscopy （TEm.. field em..sion scanning electron m..roscopy （FE-SEm.. therm..ravim..ric analysis （TGA）, in situ electrical conductivity, and n2 adsorption/desorption. The obtained results dem..strated that nano-crystalline Pr6O11, with crystallites size of 6-12 nm..started to form..t 500 ℃. Such value increased to 20-33 nm..or the sam..e calcined at 700℃. The as-synthesized PrrOll nanoparticles presented high electrical conductivity due to electron hopping between Pr（III）-Pr（IV） pairs.

The 3-nm..hick In0.13Ca0.87n wells and two 6-am..hick Gan barriers are selected as an active region for Fabry-Perot （FP） cavity waveguide edge em..ting LD. The internal quantum..fficiency and internal optical loss coefficient are extracted through the sim..ation software for single, double, and triple InGan/Gan quantum..ells. The effects of device tem..rature on the laser threshold current, external differential quantum..fficiency （DQE）, and output wavelength are also investigated. The external quantum..fficiency and characteristic tem..rature are im..oved significantly when the quantum..ell num..r is two. It is indicated that the laser structures with m..y quantum..ells will suffer from..he inhom..eneity of the carrier density within the quantum..ell itself which affects the LD perform..ce.
