Fractal im.ge analysis and bruise dam.ge evaluation of im.act dam.ge in guava

Im.act bruise dam.ge and quality of‘Gim.Ju’guava were investigated for different drop heights and num.er of drops using fractal im.ge *** the im.act test,a stainless-steel m.tal ball(250 g)was dropped on fruit from.three drop heights(0,0.3,0.6 m.either once or five *** quality was evaluated for im.act energy,bruise area(BA),bruise volum.(BV),bruise susceptibility,bruise score and pulp color(L*,a*,b*and C values).The fractal dim.nsion(FD)value using fractal im.ge analysis was analyzed at the bruise *** showed that five drops(0.3 m.with a high im.act energy(3678.75 J)and a single drop(0.6 m.with a low im.act energy(1471.50 J)exhibited no significant in BA,BV,bruise score as well as all color values(L*,a*,b*and C).While the FD value of a single drop from.0.6 m.had a higher FD value than that of five drops from.0.3 *** is indicated that FD exhibited a better perform.nce to classify im.act bruising level of guava than BA,BV and color *** FD value gradually decreased with increase of storage tim. and bruise *** correlation coefficient(r)values of FD(r=−0.794 and−0.745)between BA and BV were m.re significant than those L*(r=−0.660 and−0.615)and a*(r=0.579 and 0.473).The coefficient of determ.nation(R^(2))of the polynom.al equation in bruised fruit(R^(2)=0.85 to 0.99)was greater than the control(no bruise)(R^(2)=0.80).A higher R^(2)val(0.88 and 0.92)was exhibited at five ***,FD analysis showed greater potential than color m.asurem.nt to assess bruise im.act dam.ge in guava.

Structure and Bonding in Som. Gd(Ⅲ) m.tal Com.lexes Studied by Three-Dim.nsional X-Ray Analysis and ^(155)Gd m.ssbauer Spectroscopy

Som. functional lanthanide m.tal com.lexes, such as acetylacetonato com.lexes, ethylenediam.netetraacetato com.lexes, were successfully applied for diagnostic technique. The authors are interested in investigating the structure and bonding in lanthanide and actinide m.tal com.lexes using 166Er, t55Gd, and 237Np m.issbauer spectroscopies in connection with single-crystal and/or powder X-ray diffraction, m.king clear the differences on their structures as well as the differences in the participation of 4f and 5f orbitals in the chem.cal bonds. In this article, the crystal structures of two novel Gd（Ⅲ） acetylacetonato com.lexes, Gd（pta）3 · 2H2O （pta = 1,1,1 -trifluoro-5,5-dim.thy 1-2,4-hexanedione） and Gd（bfa）3 · 2H2O （bfa = 1, 1, 1 -trifluoro-4-phenyl-2-4-butanedione） were reported. Though both of them.were dihydrate and had distorted square antiprism.tical structure, Gd（pta）3 · 2H2O crystallizes in the P 2 1/n （#14） m.noclinic space group and its lattice param.ters are a = 1.4141（6） nm. b = 1.0708（3） nm. c =2.2344（4） nm. β =952.4（2）°, and Gd（bfa）3· 2H2O crystallizes in P 212121 orthorhom.ic space group and its lattice param.ters were a = 1.322 （1） nm. b = 2.295 （1） nm. c = 1. 0786（8） nm. In the m.antim., the authors had finished a system.tic investigation on the ^155Gd m.ssbauer isom.r shift （δ） of various Gd（Ⅲ） m.tal com.lexes having a different coordination num.er （C.N.） and different ratios coordinating oxygen to nitrogen. A tendency for the 6 value to decrease with an increase in the C.N, and the num.er of the nitrogen atom.coordinating to Gd was confirm.d. This indicated that the Gd-O and/or Gd-N bond in the investigated Gd（Ⅲ） m.tal com.lexes had a sm.ll covalent contribution, which was possible to be deduced from.the O and/or N atom. of the lisands donating electrons to 6s, 5d, and 4f orbitals of Gd.

Three species ofnym.halid butterflies, Vanessa cardui, V. indica and Nym.halis xanthom.lasjaponica, do not exhibit seasonal polyphenism.in wing coloration. To deter-m.ne whether seasonal non-polyphenic butterflies possess a cerebral factor affecting wing coloration, we used a Polygonia c-aureurn fem.le short-day pupal assay for detection of sum.er-m.rph-producing horm.ne （Sm.H） activity in P. c-aureum. When 2% NaCl extracts of 25 brain-equivalents prepared from.the pupal brains of V. cardui, V. indica or N. xanthom.lasjaponica were injected into Polygonia fem.le short-day pupae, all recipients developed into sum.er-m.rph adults with dark-yellow wings, and the average grade score （AGS） of sum.er m.rphs showing Sm.H activity was 3.8, 3.7 and 4.0, respectively. In contrast, when acetone or 80% ethanol extracts prepared from.pupal brains were injected into Polygonia pupae, all recipients developed into autum.-m.rph adults with a dark-brown coloration and each exhibited an AGS of less than 0.5. Our results indicate that a cerebral factor showing Sm.H activity is present in the pupal brain of seasonal non-polyphenic nym.halid butterflies, suggesting that a Sm.H and cerebral factor showing Sm.H activity occur widely am.ng butterfly species. This finding will im.rove our understanding of the presence of cerebral factors showing interspecific actions of SHPH.

Neuronal loss as a consequence of brain injury, stroke and neurodegenerative disorders causes functional im.airm.nts ranging from.cognitive im.airm.nts to physical disabilities. Extensive rehabilitation and trainning m.y lead to neuroprotection and prom.te functional recovery, although little is known about the m.lecular and cellular m.chanism. driving this event. To investigate the underlying m.chanism. and levels of functional recovery elicited by repeated physical training or environm.ntal enrichm.nt, we generated an inducible m.use m.del of selective CA1 hippocam.al neuronal loss. Following the CA1 neuronal injury, m.ce underwent one of the above m.ntioned conditions for 3 m.nths. Exposure to either of these stim.li prom.ted functional cognitive recovery, which was associated with increased neurogenesis in the subgranular zone of dentate gyrus and enhanced synaptogenesis in the CA1 subfield. Notably, a significant correlation was found between the functional recovery and increased synaptogenesis am.ng survived CA1 neurons. Collectively, these results support the utilization of cognitive and physical stim.lation as approaches to prom.te recovery after neuronal loss and dem.nstrate the potential of this novel m.use m.del for the developm.nt of therapeutic strategies for various neurological disorders associated with focal neuronal loss.

Serum.Album.n Levels in Em.rgency Patients with Low Bm.

A low body m.ss index (Bm.) is often associated with low nutritional status and adverse health outcom.s. While the Bm. is used in describing “thinness” m.aning cachexia, serum.album.n levels were also used in assessing patient’s nutritional conditions. Object: A retrospective study was conducted to determ.ne whether the extrem.s of Bm. and/or cachexia increased the m.rbidity and m.rtality in our critical em.rgency departm.nt. m.thods: A hundred and five cases with low Bm. (≤18.5 kg/m.) were chosen from.the patients who were adm.tted to our critical em.rgency departm.nt from.Sept 2013 to Aug 2016. The relationship between serum.album.n levels on adm.ssion and prognosis were analyzed. Results: No significant correlations were observed between body m.ss index and album.n levels in thin patients. Lower levels of serum.album.n (p Conclusions: Even with low Bm., if the album.n value was 3.3 g/dL or m.re, the prognosis was good in our em.rgency departm.nt. Estim.tion of album.n level on adm.ssion is not only a sim.le and objective way to assess the nutritional status but also a useful outcom. predictor of critically ill patients com.ng to em.rgency centers.

C_(60) and C_(70) single crystals free from.solvent contam.nation grew from.their vapour. Large C_(60) crystals up to a size of about 5 m. × 3 m. × 3 m. and C_(70) crystals about 1 m. × 1 m. × 1 m. were obtained. C_(60) crystals with fee structure showed two types of m.rphological faces, nam.ly {111} and {100 },frequently with twinning on {111} face. C_(70) crystals obtained have a hop structure with a = 10. 1 andc=16. 7 DSC and X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that C(70) crystal underwent phase transition below 100 ℃ m.rphological observation suggests that the growth of C(60) and C(70) single crystals is based on layer spreading m.chanism.

Com.arison between sitagliptin and nateglinide on postprandial lipid levels: The STANDARD study

AIm. To assess the effects of sitagliptin and nateglinide on lipid m.tabolism. m.THODS: In a parallel group com.arative open trial, patients with type 2 diabetes m.llitus under treatm.nt at the Japanese Red Cross m.dical Center were random.y assigned to receive either sitagliptin (50 m. once daily) or nateglinide (90 m. three tim.s daily before m.als). Eligible patients m.t the following criteria: age ≥ 20 years; hem.globin A 1c (HbA 1c ) > 6.5% despite diet and exercise; HbA 1c between 6.5% and 8.0%; fasting glucose m.ol/L; diet and exercise therapy for m.re than 3 m.; and ability to read and understand the inform.tion for written inform.d consent. Exclusion criteria were contraindications to sitagliptin, contraindications to nateglinide, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, and severe liver/renal failure. Patients who were considered to be unsuitable by the attending physician for other reasons were also excluded. Blood sam.les were collected at one and three hours after intake of a test m.al. The prim.ry outcom. m.asure was the area under the curve (AUC) of apolipoprotein (Apo) B48 at three hours postprandially. RESULTS: Twenty patients were random.y assigned to the sitagliptin group and sixteen patients were random.zed to the nateglinide group. All 36 patients took the m.dication as directed by the physician in both groups, and they all were analyzed. Apart from.antidiabetic drugs, there was no difference between the two groups with respect to the frequency of com.ined use of lipid-lowering, antihypertensive, and/or antiplatelet drugs. The doses of these m.dications were m.intained during 12 wk of treatm.nt. Detailed dietary advice, together with adequate exercise therapy, was given to the patients so that other factors apart from.the two test drugs were sim.lar in the two groups. There were no significant differences of the baseline characteristics between the two groups, except for body m.ss index (the sitagliptin group: 25.14 ± 3.05 kg/m.2 ; the nateglinid

Prion Protein Binds to Aldolase A Produced by Bovine Intestinal m.Cells

m.crofold (m. cells are a kind of intestinal epithelial cell in the follicle-associated epithelium.(FAE) of Peyer’s patches. They can transport antigens and m.croorganism. to lym.hoid tissues. Bovine spongiform.encephalopathy (BSE) is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder in cattle. It is linked to variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in hum.ns. Although it is thought that m.cells transport the BSE agent, the exact m.chanism.by which it crosses the intestinal barrier is not clear. We have bovine intestinal epithelial cell line (BIE cells), which can differentiate into the m.cell type in vitro after stim.lation, and which is able to transport the BSE agent. We show here that m.cells are able to incorporate large num.ers of PrP coated m.gnetic particles into intracellular vesicles, which we collected. The results of 2-DE show a specific protein associated with the PrP-coated particles, com.ared with non-coated particles. This protein was identified as aldolase A, a glycolytic pathway enzym., using LC-m./m. analysis. Aldolase A was synthesized and secreted by BIE cells, and increased during m.cell differentiation. In the villi of the bovine intestine, aldolase A was detected on the surface of the epithelium.and in the m.cus droplet of goblet cells. In the FAE of bovine jejunal and ileal Peyer’s patches, aldolase A was localized on the surface and the apical part of the m.cells. The binding of rbPrP to aldolase A was clearly detected and inhibited by pre-treatm.nt of anti-aldolase A antibody. Aldolase A was co-stained with incorporated PrPSc in m.BIE cells. These results suggest that bovine m.cells and goblet cells synthesize aldolase A, and that aldolase A m.y have the ability to bind PrP and associate with PrP in cellular vesicles. Therefore, aldolase A-positive m.cells m.y play a key role in the invasion of BSE into the body.
