AIM To analyze whether fluid overload is an independent risk factor of adverse outcomes after liver transplantation(LT).METHODS One hundred and twenty-one patients submitted to LT were retrospectively *** regarding perioperative and postoperative variables previously associated with adverse outcomes after LT were *** fluid balance(FB) in the first 12 h and 4 d after surgery were compared with major adverse outcomes after *** Most of the patients were submitted to a liberal approach of fluid administration with a mean cumulative FBover 5 L and 10 L,respectively,in the first 12 h and 4 d after *** FB in 4 d was independently associated with occurrence of both AKI and requirement for renal replacement therapy(RRT)(OR = 2.3;95%CI:1.37-3.86,P = 0.02 and OR = 2.89;95%CI:1.52-5.49,P = 0.001 respectively).Other variables on multivariate analysis associated with AKI and RRT were,respectively,male sex and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Disease Classification System(APACHE II) levels and sepsis or septic *** was shown to be independently related to AST and APACHE II levels(OR = 2.35;95%CI:1.1-5.05,P = 0.02 and 2.63;95%CI:1.0-6.87,P = 0.04 respectively),probably reflecting the degree of graft dysfunction and severity of early postoperative course of *** effect of FB on mortality after LT was *** Cumulative positive FB over 4 d after LT is independently associated with the development of AKI and the requirement of *** was not independently related to FB,but to surrogate markers of graft dysfunction and severity of postoperative course of LT.

We investigated the effects of formulations based on phosphite products on gas exchange and activity of antioxidant enzymes in coffee plants. Seedlings of the Mundo Novo cultivar were submitted to various treatments composed of different formulations of with potassium phosphite (ADB 120), manganese phosphite (Reforce Mn), and fungicide (PrioriXtra®). For coffee seedlings, the combination of potassium phosphite and citrus by-products, isolated or in a combination with other products elicited the antioxidant system. Besides the high activity of antioxidant enzymes, the photosynthetic rates were higher than other treatments. The better performance of coffee seedlings treated with those formulations occurred even in absence of pathogens.

Introduction: Spontaneous abortion is defined as pregnancy loss before the twentieth week and Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion (RSA) is defined as at least three spontaneous and successive pregnancy losses in the same period. Among the different types of immunological causes, this study refers specifically to the alloimmune cause. Women with RSA of alloimmune cause share a greater number of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) with their husbands, leading to the inhibition of the production of anti-paternal asymmetric blocking antibodies, which would protect embryonic cells. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of immunotherapy with paternal HLA-sensitizing mononuclear cells in cases of RSA through the positivity of the cross-match test and its efficacy in pregnancy success. Patients and Methods: Written consent was obtained, 12 couples with a history of RSA presenting negative cross-match were included in the study. Blood samples were collected from the couple for cross-matching and the separation of paternal mononuclear cells. Immunotherapy was performed with paternal mononuclear cells intradermally in the wives’ arms on day (D) 0, D15 and D30. After the third dose, a second evaluation of the cross- match tests was performed. Results and Discussion: The age of the wives ranged from 28 to 41 years, with a mean of 34.5 years. The twelve couples had a negative cross-match test (100%). Eleven couples (96.6%) tested positive in the cross- match test after immunotherapy. Of these, 10 (90.9%) had successful pregnancies. Immunotherapy with paternal mononuclear cells showed an excellent ability to sensitize the maternal immune system, with positive cross-match, resulting in a successful pregnancy.

Enteroparasitoses in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Background: Patients with rheumatic diseases have profound alterations in the immune system as a result of underlying diseases and the treatments used, which increases the risk of occurrence and severity of infections, including enteroparasitosis. The current treatment for rheumatoid arthritis involves immunosuppressive therapies powerfully needed for screening infectious processes. The prevalence of parasitic infections in rheumatoid arthritis patients is not currently documented in literature. The objective of the current study was to determine the prevalence of parasitic diseases in a population with RA. Methods: We collected demographic and socioeconomic data from 67 patients at the Hospital Universitário de Brasília from July 2015 to April 2016. All patients underwent a parasitological examination of their stool and multiple variables were analyzed using Poisson regression method. Results: The mean age of patients was 53.9 years. They were predominantly in women (94%) and caucasian (47.8%). The mean disease duration was 9.2 years and most patients had the disease in remission or light activity. The prevalence of parasitic infections in these patients was 11.9%, all cases being that of protozoa of the following species: Endolimax nana, Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba coli. The final multivariate analysis indicated that the presence of disease had a significant statistical relationship between the presence of enteroparasitosis and rheumatoid arthritis with no fatigue by VAS (p = 0.0488) and best current health index by VAS (p = 0.0012). Conclusion: This study indicates that the prevalence of enteroparasitoses in a population with Rheumatoid Arthritis was 11.9% and all cases were found of protozoa.

ECF Bleaching with Molybdenum Activated Acid Peroxide and its Impact on Eucalyptus Pulp Properties and Effluent Quality

Acid hydrogen peroxide catalyzed with molybdenum (PMo stage) is effective to decrease pulp kappa number and potentially minimize chlorine dioxide demand in subsequent ECF bleaching. This study aimed at developing cost-effective methods for applying PMo as the first stage bleaching for eucalyptus kraft pulp and evaluating their impact on pulp properties and effluent quality in relation to current ECF bleaching techniques. The PMo(EP)DP and A/PMo(EP)DP sequences proved to be most cost-effective for PMo stage application. The pulp properties and effluent quality derived from bleaching with these two sequences were compared with those of the conventional bleaching with the DHT(EP)DP sequence. The PMo(EP)DP sequence produced pulp of refinability and physical properties similar to that of the reference but the A/PMo(EP)DP one resulted in pulp of 20% lower refinability and 10% lower tearing strength. Untreated effluents of the PMo(EP)DP and A/PMo(EP)DP sequences presented similar COD, but lower AOX and color than the DHT(EP)DP effluents. None of the effluents exhibited acute toxicity. The effluents from the PMo(EP)DP sequence showed much lower BOD and BOD/COD ratio than that of the A/PMo(EP)DP one. All effluents were readily treated in bench-scale reactors, and achieved COD removal efficiencies of greater than 70%.

Virtual screening can be a helpful approach to propose treatments for COVID-19 by developing inhibitors for blocking the attachment of the virus to human cells. This study uses molecular docking, recovery time and dynamics to analyze if potential inhibitors of main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 can interfere in the attachment of nanobodies, specifically Nb20, in the receptor binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2. The potential inhibitors are four compounds previously identified in a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based enzymatic assay for the SARS-CoV-2 Mpro: Boceprevir, Calpain Inhibitor II, Calpain Inhibitor XII, and GC376. The findings reveal that Boceprevir has the higher affinity with the RBD/Nb20 complex, followed by Calpain Inhibitor XII, GC376 and Calpain Inhibitor II. The recovery time indicates that the RBD/Nb20 complex needs a relatively short time to return to what it was before the presence of the ligands. For the RMSD the Boceprevir and Calpain Inhibitor II have the shortest interaction times, while Calpain Inhibitor XII shows slightly more interaction, but with significant pose fluctuations. On the other hand, GC376 remains stably bound for a longer duration compared to the other compounds, suggesting that they can potentially interfere with the neutralization process of Nb20.

Comparative Analysis of Two Methods for the Assessment of Aesthetic Impairment Involving Teeth

Objective: To analyze and compare the effectiveness of two methods designed for the assessment of esthetic impairment in patients with missing teeth. Material and Methods: Two methods were addressed in this study: 7-level scale (7LS) and AIPE-Odonto/Brasil. Both tools are designed to assess esthetic dental impairment in civil and criminal Courts. One-hundred and thirteen dentists used the tools to assess dental esthetic impairment in four mock cases (one male and three females). The outcomes of their analyses were compared with pre-established gold-standard scores. Chi-square test was used to investigate the influence of dentists’ sex, age, time of experience and forensic knowledge with their outcomes. Results: dentists’ outcomes were closer to the expected gold-standard scores when AIPE-Odonto/Brasil was used compared to 7LS (p dentists’ sex, time of experience and forensic knowledge were significantly associated with the scores obtained with both tools (p dental impairment involving missing teeth compared to the 7LS.

Introduction:The histological diagnosis of prostate cancer is commonly based on morphological *** presence of malignant tissue mixed with benign tissue,or the presence of carcinoma that mimics benignity may generate difficulty in the diagnostic ***,the application of immunohistochemistry contributes its diagnostic ***:To evaluate the 34βE12 marker in the detection of adenocarcinoma(ADn),atypical small acinar proliferation(ASAp),regular prostatic tissue(RPT)and regular prostatic tissue alternated by atrophy spotlights(RPTa)in transrectal biopsy guided by ultrasonography of patients with suspected prostate ***:Analysis of 34 patients who underwent ultrasound-guided transrectal biopsy with subsequent analysis by H&E staining and 34βE12 labeling for elucidation of neoplasms or diseased tissues with doubtful ***:The marker 34βE12 showed negativity in 100%of the neoplasms ADn,positivity in 100%of the benign prostatic tissues(RPT and RPTa);the patients with ASAp presented positivity(20%)and negativity(80%).The chi-square test(χ2)showed that there is an association(χ2=29.55 and pdern era,pathologists have become increasingly challenged to diagnose small outbreaks of cancer when only a few atypical glands are present in transrectal biopsy-guided *** 34βE12 marker becomes an important tool in elucidating diagnoses such as ADn and ASAp.

Marigold(Tagetes erecta): The Potential Value in the Phytoremediation of Chromium

Environmental pollution with chromium （Cr） is harmful to humans, animals and plants, while in plants it causes diminished growth, anatomical alterations and death. In the present study, the potential value of marigold （Tagetes erecta） in the phytoremediation of Cr has been investigated. The randomized experimental design involved the exposure of plants to nutrient solutions containing 0.00, 0.04, 0.08, 0.12, 0.16 or 0.24 mmol L-1 Cr（III）. Chromium toxicity was observed at Cr（III） concentrations ≥ 0.12 mmol L-1 as demonstrated by diminished growth of the aerial parts and reduced density of the root system. Increasing Cr（III） concentrations in the nutrient solution resulted in a higher bioaccumulation of total Cr in the tissues, although translocation from roots to aerial parts was not efficient （maximum value of 25% at 0.12 mmol L-1 Cr（III））. The Cr bioaccumulation was up to 11-fold greater in roots than in the aerial parts. Tagetes erecta exhibited leaf plasticity when exposed to Cr, indicating the existence of a tolerance mechanism to Cr in this species. Chromium caused a reduction in xilem vases, resulting in a plastic effect in T. erecta leaves that increased the metal tolerance in culture solution. Tagetes spp. are potential Cr hyperaccumulators; at Cr（III） concentrations up to 0.12 mmol L-1, the plants accumulated levels above that proposed for hyperaccumulators and still maintained a considerable growth and even flourished. However, this study was conducted in nutrient solution, and studies on species confirmation as Cr hyperaccumulator should be conducted in soils for further clarification.
