BACKGroUND Metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is a lethal malignancy with dispiriting survival *** is a promising approach to many cancer types,but achieves poor outcomes in advanced PDAC due to its immunosuppressive tumor *** describe a case of metastatic PDAC effectively treated with *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 67-year-old woman with unresectable locally advanced PDAC,treated with gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel followed by radiotherapy plus *** nine months,pancreatic tumor progression was observed at the level of the hepatic hilum with the appearance of a new pulmonary nodule suggestive of a second primary,confirmed by left lung *** immunotherapy was then initiated with pembrolizumab,an immune checkpoint inhibitor targeting programmed cell death protein-1 that covers the two tumor *** patient showed a complete metabolic response that was maintained throughout the *** patient continues to be disease-free at 5.6 years since the start of *** These results suggest that the administration of pembrolizumab after chemoradiotherapy has a beneficial effect in patients with metastatic *** our knowledge,this is the first reported case of a patient with metastatic PDAC and metastatic lung cancer showing such a long-lasting complete response after pembrolizumab treatment without curative *** studies are required to determine biomarkers that identify PDAC patients most likely to benefit from this immunotherapy.

Dysregulation of G9a,a histone-lysine N-methyltransferase,has been observed in Alzheimer’s disease and has been correlated with increased levels of chronic inflammation and oxidative ***,microRNAs are involved in many biological processes and diseases playing a key role in pathogenesis,especially in multifactorial diseases such as Alzheimer’s ***,our aim has been to provide partial insights into the interconnection between G9a,microRNAs,oxidative stress,and *** better understand the biology of G9a,we compared the global microRNA expression between senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8(SAMP8)control mice and SAMP8 treated with G9a inhibitor *** found a downregulation of miR-128 after a G9a inhibition treatment,which interestingly binds to the 3′untranslated region(3′-UTR)of peroxisome-proliferator activator receptor γ(PPARG)***,Pparg gene expression levels were higher in the SAMP8 group treated with G9a inhibitor than in the SAMP8 control *** also observed modulation of oxidative stress responses might be mainly driven Pparg after G9a *** confirm these antioxidant effects,we treated primary neuron cell cultures with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidative *** this setting,treatment with G9a inhibitor increases both cell survival and antioxidant ***,up-regulation of PPARγby G9a inhibitor could also increase the expression of genes involved in DNA damage responses and *** addition,we also described that the PPARγ/AMPK axis partially explains the regulation of autophagy markers ***,PPARγ/GADD45αpotentially contributes to enhancing synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis after G9a ***,we propose that pharmacological inhibition of G9a leads to a neuroprotective effect that could be due,at least in part,by the modulation of PPARγ-dependent pathways by miR-128.

In this Special Issue of Geoscience Frontiers, we present contributions addressing the interactions of CoVID-19 in relation to environment and human health.

Comparative carbon emission assessments of recycled and natural aggregate concrete: Environmental influence of cement content

This work examines the environmental and geochemical impact of recycled aggregate concrete production with properties representative for structural *** environmental influence of cement content,aggregate production,transportation,and waste landfilling is analysed by undertaking a life cycle assessment and considering a life cycle inventory largely specific for the *** obtain a detailed insight into the optimum life cycle parameters,a sensitivity study is carried out in which supplementary cementitious materials,different values of natural-to-recycled aggregate content ratio and case-specific transportation distances were *** results show that carbon emissions were between 323 and 332 kgCo_(2)e per cubic metre of cement only natural aggregate *** values can be reduced by up to 17%by replacing 25%of the cement with fly *** contrast,carbon emissions can increase when natural coarse aggregates are replaced by recycled aggregates in proportions of 50%and 100%,and transportation is not included in ***,the concrete with 50%recycled aggregate presented lower increase,only 0.3%and 3.4%for normal and high strength concrete,*** some cases,the relative contribution of transportation to the total carbon emissions increased when cement was replaced by fly ash in proportions of 25%,and case-specific transportation distances were *** absolute values,the concrete mixes with 100%recycled aggregates and 25%fly ash had lower carbon emissions than concrete with cement and natural aggregates *** environmental benefits can be obtained when the transportation distances of fly ash are relatively short(15–25 km)and the cement replacement by fly ash is equal or higher than 25%,considering that the mechanical properties are adequate for practical *** observations from this paper show that recycled aggregate concrete with strength characteristics representative for structural members can have lowe

Background:some studies have indicated that the Horned Larks(Eremophila alpestris)should be considered as a species *** it split into four species or clades and seven subclades based on genetic,morphological,and biogeographic ***,other aspects like song divergence have not been studied and several subspe-cies have not been evaluated,leading to important information gaps in this group of *** this work,we aimed to assess the differences in song traits and playback response between the Nearctic subclade and the Neotropical or Colombian subspecies ***:We compared six song traits between these groups and performed field playback experiments,to test the response of the Neotropical larks to both *** tested the difference in the variables for separate as well as by principal component analysis(PCA).Results:We found significant differences(psong traits and the PCA analysis between the two ***,the PCA analysis showed a clearer divergence of the Neotropical songs in comparison to the Nearctic songs of different locations within North ***,the playback analysis showed a significantly lower response of *** to the songs of the Nearctic ***:Besides this song divergence,there are important ecological and biogeographic differences between the Neotropical and Nearctic Horned Larks,that indicate an unclear relationship between these two ***,further morphological and genetic studies are required to clarify the taxonomy of the Neotropical Horned Lark and define if they share the same evolutionary history as the other subspecies of the Nearctic subclade.

We present an unusual case of portal vein thrombosis with a splanchnic hemangioma secondary to acute biliary pancreatitis. We report a 45-year-old patient, who has systemic arterial hypertension in treatment, was admitted for abdominal pain in the epigastrium, with irradiation to the right hypochondrium, accompanied by nausea and vomiting of 10 occasions of bile content, physical examination with pain in the right hypochondrium, Murphy positive. We have laboratory studies with a lipase of 788, so a diagnosis of pancreatitis is made with an etiology to be determined. The laboratories suggestive of acute biliary pancreatitis (lipase 788.71);an imaging study was subsequently performed (ultrasonography) with the result of stone in the common bile duct. A laparoscopy was performed with relative improvement, so he was discharged and returned 20 days after surgery due to abdominal pain of the same intensity in the left hypochondrium. Ending his hospitalization with a splenectomy for splenic hemangioma with portal vein thrombosis.

Background Pediatric cancer survivors are at increased risk of muscle weakness and low areal bone mineral density(aBMD).However,the prevalence of muscle strength deficits is not well documented,and the associations of muscle strength with aBMD are unknown in this ***,this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of upper-and lower-body muscle strength deficits and to examine the associations of upper-and lower-body muscle strength with age-,sex,and race-specific aBMD Z-scores at the total body,total hip,femoral neck,and lumbar *** This cross-sectional study included 116 pediatric cancer survivors(12.1±3.3 years old,mean±SD;42.2%female).Upper-and lower-body muscle strength were assessed by handgrip and standing long jump test,***‑energy X‑ray absorptiometry was used to measure aBMD(g/cm2).Associations between muscle strength and aBMD were evaluated in multivariable linear regression *** regression was used to evaluate the contribution of muscle strength(1-decile lower)to the odds of having low aBMD(Z-score≤1.0).All analyses were adjusted for time from treatment completion,radiotherapy exposure,and body mass *** More than one-half of survivors were within the 2 lowest deciles for upper-(56.9%)and lower-body muscle strength(60.0%)in comparison to age-and sex-specific reference *** strength deficits were associated with lower aBMD Z-scores at all sites(B=0.133–0.258,p=0.001–0.032).Each 1-decile lower in upper-body muscle strength was associated with 30%–95%higher odds of having low aBMD Z-scores at all *** 1-decile lower in lower-body muscle strength was associated with 35%–70%higher odds of having low aBMD Z-scores at total body,total hip,and femoral *** Muscle strength deficits are prevalent in young pediatric cancer survivors,and such deficits are associated with lower aBMD Z-scores at all *** results suggest that interventions designed to improve muscle strength in t

The wheel loads of heavy trucks are the major source of pavement damage,given the repeated loadings imposed by them due to transient events and surface *** related studies focus on steady-state context regarding simplified vehicle’s parameters and ideal pavement conditions,this paper aims to analyze the vertical load applied to the pavement by considering cornering maneuver as a transient event,on a battery electric vehicle *** this concern,measurements were performed on a rigid truck,with two steering front axles,in a closed course proving *** relationship has been presented between vehicle’s speed,lateral acceleration and transferred vertical load for a given curve radius of 85.6 m and 3.7°of transversal *** measurements results indicated that for every 10 km/h increasing on the vehicle’s speed,additional 110 kgf will be transferred to the pavement on the outer side of the cornering *** value itself could not be considered high,but it will be also added to the static load,or overload in some truck applications.
