While the primary role of window attachments is often to moderate glare and solar heat gains,they are also able to provide additional daylight to interior *** this purpose,a variety of daylight-redirecting window systems have been developed over the past 150 *** reflective systems(slats/light shelves)or prismatic systems that rely on total internal reflection work well under specific solar conditions,but generally sacrifice performance over a much wider range of incident solar angles and sky *** systems-typically reflective slats-are more responsive to sun angles but have not been able to achieve optimal performance for glare and daylight redirection efficiency.A previous investigation into an adjustable,reflective blind concept first conceived of in the late 1970s showed promise but was not reduced to practice due to lack of adequate simulation and analysis *** this paper,this concept is further developed and its energy and visual comfort performance evaluated for four mid-latitude,temperate climates using ray-tracing simulation *** indicate significant potential lighting energy savings when compared with conventional automated reflective blinds(2.1-4.9 kWh/(m^(2)·a),or 14%-42%,depending on climate and orientation)or,especially,manually-operated matte white Venetian blinds(1.4-7.9 kWh/(m^(2)·a),or 9%-54%,depending on climate and orientation),while maintaining acceptable or better visual comfort conditions throughout the interior space.

In the last 30 years,the scientific community has developed and proposed different models and numerical approaches for the study of vibrations induced by railway *** of them are formulated in the frequency/wave number domain and with a 2.5D ***-dimensional numerical models formulated in the time/space domain are less frequently used,mainly due to their high computational ***,these models present very attractive characteristics,such as the possibility of considering nonlinear behaviors or the modelling of excess pore pressure and non-homogeneous and non-periodic geometries in the longitudinal direction of the *** this study,two 3D numerical approaches formulated in the time/space domain are compared and experimentally *** first one consists of a finite element approach and the second one of a finite difference *** experimental validation in an actual case situated in Carregado(Portugal)shows an acceptable fitting between the numerical results and the actual measurements for both ***,there are some differences among *** study therefore includes some recommendations for their use in practical soil dynamics and geotechnical engineering.

Purines have a recognized importance as intercellular mes- sengers. These molecules play an important role in the de- velopment and maintenance of the central nervous system （CNs）, as well as in its response to pathological conditions. Both adenine and guanine-based purines can be released from astrocytes, where they play a relevant role as extracel- lular signaling molecules. Particularly, the nucleoside gua- nosine has been proposed as an extracellular molecule that regulates the response of CNs to damage. Following injury, this nucleoside attains high concentrations in the extracel- lular space, where it activates multiple signaling pathways.

Tropical alpine ecosystems exhibit outstanding plant diversity and endemism while being particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate *** understanding spatiotemporal changes in plant species composition,richness and community structure along tropical alpine altitudinal gradients is of primary importance,both the functional and historical/biogeographic dimensions of vegetation diversity remain largely *** used Generalized Linear Models and multivariate analyses to assess changes in species,growth forms,and biogeographic groups richness and abundance,in response to habitat variables along an elevation gradient in seven summits(3800 to 4600 m asl)in the Venezuelan Andes,studied using the standardized approach of the GLORIA-Andes monitoring *** habitat variables assessed were soil temperature(-10 cm),soil organic matter,slope inclination,and substrate *** found 113 species,representing72 genera,32 families,13 growth forms,and seven biogeographic origins,that included 25%of endemic *** observed richer vegetation,both in terms of species and growth forms,in summits with higher soil temperatures and higher sOM content,as well as higher biogeographic origin richness with increasing soil *** presence of holarctic elements increased toward higher elevations,while the occurrence of austral antarctic elements increased toward lower *** results indicate that biogeographic and functional approaches to vegetation diversity capture well the effect of abiotic filtering on community structuring in these tropical alpine *** findings constitute an important baseline for monitoring vegetation dynamics linked to climate change in the Venezuelan Andes by highlighting the functional and historical perspective on vegetation analyses,in contrast with more traditional approaches,based only on taxonomic species diversity.

Whole-genome duplications(WGDs)are regarded as important drivers of macroevolution in plants(Clark and Donoghue,2018).However,there are few studies that test a connection between WGDs and evolutionary *** proper study of evolutionary patterns related to WGDs needs a well-resolved phylogeny,accurate dates of the WGD events,and historical reconstructions of the evolutionary novelties(Clark and Donoghue,2018).The advent of exhaustive phylogenomic studies is becoming a promising way to solve these issues,as wholegenome data can help clarify obscure phylogenetic relationships,evaluate patterns associated with WGDs,and track down the evolution of life-history traits that shaped plant lineages(Bellot et al.,2020).

Background:Rotavirus was the leading cause of childhood diarrhoea-related hospitalisations and death before the introduction of rotavirus ***:We describe the effectiveness of rotavirus vaccines to prevent rotavirus infections and hospitalizations and the main rotavirus strains circulating before and after vaccine introduction through a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 1990 and 2014.203 studies were included to estimate the proportion of infections due to rotavirus and 10 to assess the impact of the vaccines.41 of 46 studies in the post-vaccination period were used for meta-analysis of genotypes,20 to calculate Ve against infection,eight for Ve against hospitalisation and seven for Ve against severe ***:24.3%(95%CI 22.1–26.5)and 16.1%(95%CI 13.2–19.3)of cases of diarrhoea were due to rotavirus before and after vaccine introduction,*** most prevalent G types after vaccine introduction were G2(51.6%,95%CI 38–65),G9(14.5%,95%CI 7–23)and G1(14.2%,95%CI 7–23);while the most prevalent P types were P[4](54.1%,95%CI 41–67)and P[8](33%,95%CI 22–46).G2P[4]was the most frequent genotype combination after vaccine *** was 53%(95%CI 46–60)against infection,73%(95%CI,66–78)against hospitalisation and 74%(95%CI,68.0–78.0)against severe *** in hospitalisations and mortality due to diarrhoea were observed in countries that adopted universal rotavirus ***:Rotavirus vaccines are effective in preventing rotavirus-diarrhoea in children in Latin *** vaccines were associated with changes in genotype distribution.

Object We sought to determine the safety and efficacy in secondary stroke prevention of carotid endarterectomy(CeA)in patients with symptomatic non-stenotic carotid artery disease(syNC).Methods This was a single-centre retrospective case *** patients who underwent CeA for unilateral anterior circulation cerebrovascular events with ipsilateralstenosis from 2002 to 2020 were *** hallmarks including the degree of luminal stenosis and the presence of various vulnerable plaque characteristics(eg,intraplaque haemorrhage(IPH)on MR angiography,ulceration or low-density plaque on CT angiography)were *** presence of vulnerable plaque characteristics was compared between arteries ipsilateral to the ischaemic event and contralateral *** prevalence of perioperative/intraoperative complications,as well as recurrent ischaemic events at follow-up was *** Thirty-two patients were included in the analysis,of which 25.0%were *** arteries ipsilateral to an ischaemic event had a significantly higher prevalence of IPH when compared with contralateral arteries(80.0%vs 0.0%;pere were no intraoperative *** patient(3.1%)developed symptoms of transient ipsilateral ischaemia 1 day following CeA which resolved without *** a median follow-up of 18.0 months(IQR 5.0-36.0),only one patient(3.1%)experienced a transient neurologic deficit with complete resolution(annualised rate of recurrent stroke after CeA of 1.5%for a total follow-up of 788 patient-months following CeA).All other patients(31/32,96.9%)were free of recurrent ischaemic *** CeA appears to be safe and well-tolerated in patients with *** studies with larger cohorts and longer follow-up intervals are needed in order to determine the role of CeA in this patient population.
