The fungi have wide distribution in ecosystems and can be found colonizing various substrates,where they act as efficient decomposers,participating in cycling of *** present study aimed to assess the diversity,richness and composition of filamentous fungi in leaf litter and aerial litter in a semi-deciduous forest in the Chapada Diamantina,Bahia,*** of leaf litter and aerial litter were collected monthly from October/2009 to September/2010 in eight installments in the studied *** samples were washed,placed in moist chambers and incubated.47 taxa were identified,37 in leaf litter and 35 in aerial litter,with 25 species common to both.A similarity of 69 % according to Sorensen *** similarity was considered low when the sample points were compared to the same *** fungi showed sporadic intervals.

One of the conventional ways to improve the mechanical behavior of soils is to mix them with cementing agents such as cement, lime and fly ash. Recently, introduction to alternative materials or sub-products that can be adopted to improve the soil strength is of paramount importance. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effects of porosity(h), dry unit weight(gd) of molding, cement content(C)and porosity/volumetric cement content ratio(h/Civ) or void/cement ratio on the unconfined compressive strength(quor UCS) of silty soileroof tile waste(RT) mixtures. Soil samples are molded into four different dry unit weights(i.e. 13 kN/m^3, 13.67 kN/m^3, 14.33 kN/m^3 and 15 kN/m^3) using 3%, 6% and 9%cement and 5%, 15% and 30% RT. The results show that with the addition of cement, the strength of the RT esoil mixtures increases in a linear manner. On the other hand, the addition of RT decreases quof the samples at a constant percentage of cement, and the decrease in porosity can increase qu. A dosage equation is derived from the experimental data using the porosity/volumetric cement content ratio(h/C_(iv)) where the control variables are the moisture content, crushed tile content, cement content and porosity.

In the present study,unconfined compressive strength(qu)values of two lime-treated soils(soil 1 and 2)with curing times of 28 d,90 d and 360 d were *** influence of void/lime ratio was represented by the porosity/volumetric lime content ratio(η/Liv)as the main parameter.η/Liv represents the volume of void influenced by compaction effort and lime *** evolution of qu was analyzed for each soil using the coefficient of determination as the optimization *** at providing adjustments to the mechanical resistance values,the η/Liv parameter was modified to η/LivC using the adjustment exponent C(to make qu-η/Liv variation rates compatible).The results show that with the decrease of η/*** increases potentially and the optimized values of C were *** mechanical resistance data show similar trends between qu and η/LivC for the studied silty soil-ground lime mixtures,which were cured at ambient temperature(23±2)℃ with different curing times of 28-360 ***,optimized equations were presented using the normalized strengths and the proposed optimization model,which show 6% error and 95% acceptability on average.

The applications of bionic methodology developed by the Laboratory of Design and Material Selection as basis in the creation of junction elements were demonstrated. These elements favor the application of Ecodesign in reference to the effectiveness of product dismount aiming the reduction of ambient impact in all its phases of use. The creation, the development and the confection of new junction elements were described, and case studies of new products developed specifically with this purpose were presented.

Previous research has explored the potential to integrate lidar and optical data in aboveground biomass(AGB)estimation,but how different data sources,vegetation types,and modeling algorithms influence AGB estimation is poorly *** research conducts a comparative analysis of different data sources and modeling approaches in improving AGB ***-based spectral responses and textures,lidar-derived metrics,and their combination were used to develop AGB estimation *** results indicated that(1)overall,RapidEye data are not suitable for AGB estimation,but when AGB falls within 50–150 Mg/ha,support vector regression based on stratification of vegetation types provided good AGB estimation;(2)Lidar data provided stable and better estimations than RapidEye data;and stratification of vegetation types cannot improve estimation;(3)The combination of lidar and RapidEye data cannot provide better performance than lidar data alone;(4)AGB ranges affect the selection of the best AGB models,and a combination of different estimation results from the best model for each AGB range can improve AGB estimation;(5)This research implies that an optimal procedure for AGB estimation for a specific study exists,depending on the careful selection of data sources,modeling algorithms,forest types,and AGB ranges.

The treatment of infections caused by fungi and trypanosomatids is difficult due to the eukaryotic nature of these microbial cells,which are similar in several biochemical and genetic aspects to host *** this scenario,very few antifungal and anti-trypanosomatidal agents are in clinical use and,therefore,therapy is limited by drug safety considerations and their narrow spectrum of activity,efficacy and resistance. The search for new bioactive agents against fungi and trypanosomatids has been expanded because progress in biochemistry and molecular biology has led to a better understanding of important and essential pathways in these microorganisms including nutrition,growth, proliferation,signaling,differentiation and *** this context,proteolytic enzymes produced by these eukaryotic microorganisms are appointed and,in some cases,proven to be excellent targets for searching novel natural and/or synthetic pharmacological compounds,in order to cure or prevent invasive fungal/trypanosomatid *** this task in mind,our research group and others have focused on aspartic-type proteases,since the activity of this class of hydrolytic enzymes is directly implicated in several facets of basic biological processes of both fungal and trypanosomatid cells as well as due to the participation in numerous events of interaction between these microorganisms and host *** the present paper,a concise revision of the beneficial effects of aspartic protease inhibitors,with emphasis on the aspartic protease inhibitors used in the anti-human immunodeficiency virus therapy,will be presented and discussed using our experience with the following microbial models:the yeast Candida albicans,the filamentous fungus Fonsecaea pedrosoi and the protozoan trypanosomatid Leishmania amazonensis.

Cells of Candida albicans(***) can invade humans and may lead to mucosal and skin infections or to deep-seated my coses of almost all inner organs,especially in immunocompromised *** this context,both the host immune status and the ability of *** to modulate the expression of its virulence factors are relevant aspects that drive the candidal susceptibility or resistance;in this last case,culminating in the establishment of successful infection knownas *** possesses a potent arma-mentarium consisting of several virulence moleculesthat help the fungal cells to escape of the host *** is no doubt that the secretion of aspartyl-type proteases,designated as Saps,are one of the major virulence attributes produced by *** cells,since these hydrolytic enzymes participate in a wide range of fungal physiological processes as well as in different facets of the fungal-host *** these reasons,Saps clearly hold promise as new potential drug *** this hypothesis,the introduction of new anti-human immunodeficiency virus drugs of the as party l protease inhibitor-type(HIV PIs) have emerged as new agents for the inhibition of *** introduction of HIV PIs has revolutionized the treatment of HIV disease,reducing opportunistic infections,especially *** attenuation of candidal infections in HIV-infected individuals might not solely have resulted from improved immunological status,but also as a result of direct inhibition of *** *** this article,we review updates on the beneficial effects of HIV PIs against the human fungal pathogen ***,focusing on the effects of these compounds on Sap activity,growth behavior,morphological architecture,cellular differentiation,fungal adhesion to animal cells and abiotic materials,modulation of virulence factors,experimental candidiasis infection,and their synergistic actions with classical antifungal agents.

Fiber-reinforced soils have been increasingly used in geotechnical *** the years,research has sought to understand and investigate the influences of fibers as reinforcement in soilefiber *** study assessed the behavior of clayey soil in the city of Curitiba(Paraná,Brazil),adding rice husk fiber(RHF),an industrial waste from Cooperativa Agroindustrial in Alegrete(Rio Grande do Sul,Brazil).To evaluate the effect of the presence of natural RHF on the mechanical behavior of compacted soil,aspects such as the influence of fiber content and the drained and undrained behaviors of the soil were evaluated through unconfined triaxial compression *** following tests were realized:soil granulometry,specific mass of solids and Atterberg *** were produced in quadruplicate for the soil and mixtures using the RHF contents of 0.5%,0.75%,1%and 1.5%to determine the unconfined compressive strength(UCS).Triaxial tests were realized on a pure soil specimen and the specimens with 1%RHF under confining pressures of 50 kPa,100 kPa,200 kPa and 400 *** interactions at the interface between husk surface and soil were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).In UCS tests,specimens with RHF percentages of 1%and 1.5%presented the highest results,with an increment of 36%compared to the soil without *** results of the consolidated drained triaxial compression tests show that in terms of effective stress,there was a small difference in the strength of the compacted pure soil and soil with the addition of *** the undrained tests,the strength increased with the inclusion of husk,with a reduction of 50%in cohesion and an increment of 22%in friction angle for specimens containing RHF compared to the soil without RHF additions.
