Exposure to disinfection by-products（DBP） such as trihalomethanes（THm） in swimming pools has been linked to adverse health effects in humans, but their biological mechanisms are unclear. We evaluated short-term changes in blood gene expression of adult recreational swimmers after swimming in a chlorinated pool. Volunteers swam 40 min in an indoor chlorinated pool. Blood samples were drawn and four THm（chloroform,bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane and bromoform） were measured in exhaled breath before and after swimming. Intensity of physical activity was measured as metabolic equivalents（mETs）. Gene expression in whole blood m RNA was evaluated using Illumina Human HT-12v3 Expression-Bead Chip. Linear mixed models were used to evaluate the relationship between gene expression changes and THm exposure. Thirty-seven before-after pairs were analyzed. The median increase from baseline to after swimming were： 0.7 to 2.3 for mET, and 1.4 to 7.1 μg/m^3 for exhaled total THm（sum of the four THm）.Exhaled THm increased on average 0.94 μg/m^3 per 1 mET. While 1643 probes were differentially expressed post-exposure. Of them, 189 were also associated with exhaled levels of individual/total THm or mET after False Discovery Rate. The observed associations with the exhaled THm were low to moderate（Log-fold change range：-0.17 to 0.15）. In conclusion, we identified short-term gene expression changes associated with swimming in a pool that were minor in magnitude and their biological meaning was unspecific. The high collinearity between exhaled THm levels and intensity of physical activity precluded mutually adjusted models with both covariates. These exploratory results should be validated in future studies.

Plants hold biochemical and physiological mechanisms to withstand drought ***,depending on water deficit interval,plant rehydration relies on how it can retain growth or a positive water balance—or rarely *** this study,two species of Hymenaea,one from the Amazon and the other from the Brazilian Cerrado,were investigated for their physiological mechanism associated with growth rehydration upon short-term exposure to drought *** findings demonstrate that Hymenaea courbaril tends to invest in nitrogen to the detriment of carbon compounds,-as it is limited by lower net photosynthesis-and adjust root growth to attenuate drought stress *** contrast,Hymenaea stigonocarpa takes advantage of higher water potential and a basal rate of lower net photosynthesis to support aboveground growth under such ***,it is postulated that there are distinct ways of controlling water status and growth between *** and ***,which are determined either by the ability of the species to keep net photosynthesis at low levels of water content or by favoring the accumulation of nitrogen *** mechanisms were effective with regards to water use efficiency and thus it is reasonable to suggest that strategies are not exclusive and may work under adverse conditions,as observed in Amazon and Brazilian Cerrado ***.

Synechocystis *** 6803(hereafter:Synechocystis)is a model organism for studying photosynthesis,energy metabolism,and environmental *** known as the first fully sequenced phototrophic organism,Synechocystis still has almost half of its proteome without functional *** this study,by using co-fractionation coupled with liquid chromatographytandem mass spectrometry(LC-mS/mS),we define 291 multi-protein complexes,encompassing24,092 protein±protein interactions(PPIs)among 2062 distinct gene *** information not only reveals the roles of photosynthesis in metabolism,cell motility,DNA repair,cell division,and other physiological processes,but also shows how protein functions vary from bacteria to higher plants due to changes in interaction *** also allows us to uncover the functions of hypothetical proteins,such as Sll0445,Sll0446,and Sll0447 involved in photosynthesis and cell motility,and Sll1334 involved in regulation of fatty acid *** we present the most extensive PPI data for Synechocystis so far,which provide critical insights into fundamental molecular mechanisms in cyanobacteria.

In this paper we analyze and compare natural regeneration in shrub-tree community in three areas below Pinus caribaea stands and a natural area （cerrado sensu stricto）. We also analyze the influence of biophysical and environmental variables on the distribution of regenerating shrub-tree species. The areas were analyzed and compared in relation to dispersal syndromes as well, being zoochory and anemochory the prevailing syndroms in the four areas. The sites below P. caribaea show a heterogeneous regen- eration with the number of species ranging from 18 to 42. We analyzed the influence of the biophysical and envi- ronmental variables performing a canonical correspon- dence analyses, being found significant values for variables distance from remnant and basal area. The species Si- paruna guianensis, miconia albicans, Xylopia aromatica, Sclerolobium paniculatum, Casearia sylvestris and P. caribaea were the most importante ones in the four areas,

It is increasingly common to find alarming news related to tragic events occurring in schools around the *** able to deal with these situations without getting hurt is a task not suitable for *** general,teachers are the ones who must deal with this type of situation in addition to other daily problems that appear in any classroom that make the level of stress to which they are subjected can become *** research aims to know the current situation of teachers in a region of southeastern Spain in terms of their level of work stress,resilience,and other associated variables,for which an ex post facto quantitative approach study was *** this purpose,an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire,and questions based on the Teaching and Learning International Survey of the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development,the maslach Burnout Inventory,and the Brief Resilient Coping Scale were *** participating sample consisted of 470 *** main findings were that 6%of teachers had burnout(high emotional exhaustion,high cynicism,and low professional effectiveness simultaneously).Resilience correlated inversely with stress,emotional exhaustion,cynicism,excessive teaching,and difficulty maintaining classroom *** conclusion,knowing the needs of teachers allows us to reflect on what kind of prevention and intervention programs are necessary to improve the well-being of teachers and thus improve the quality of education.

Iron oxide nanostructures are promising materials to be used as photocatalysts in different photoelectrochemical applications. There are different techniques in order to synthesize these nanostructures, but one of the most inexpensive and simple method is electrochemical anodization. This method can lead to different nanostructures by controlling its parameters. Anodization time is one of the most critical parameters since it considerably affects the properties of the obtained nanostructures. In this work, different anodization times(5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 min) were studied. The resulting nanotubes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, Raman laser confocal microscopy, water splitting measurements, mott-Schottky analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, in order to test their viability for being used as photocatalysts in photoelectrochemical applications. Results showed that the best photocurrent density values in water splitting tests(0.263 m A m-2) were achieved for the sample anodized for 10 min under hydrodynamic conditions.
