Insertion of Supramolecular Segments into Covalently Crosslinked Polyurethane Networks towards the Fabrication of Recyclable Elastomers

Thermoset plastics have become one of the most important chemical products in the world. The consequent problem is that although the thermosets possess excellent performance in mechanical strength, they cannot be reprocessed because of the internal permanent network structures. Optimizing the molecular design of thermosets is one of the most feasible ways to improve their recyclability. Here we present a facile and robust strategy to engineer the reprocessability of thermoset polyurethanes without compromising their mechanical toughness and chemical resistance via adding supramolecular additives during the polymer synthesis process. By using a multiple hydrogen bonding moiety as the model supramolecular additive, we demonstrate that the mechanical properties, recyclability, and chemical resistance of the crosslinked polyurethanes can be precisely controlled by adjusting the contents of the supramolecular additive. Systematic studies on the relations between molecular design and material properties are performed, and the optimized polyurethane network with a moderate amount of the supramolecular additive achieves the right balance between the robustness and recyclability. This work provides a cost-effective and practical way to chemically engineer thermoset plastics, aiming to enable the recycling of mechanically tough and chemically stable polymer materials.

An efficient procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminoisoindolin-l-ones via a palladium-catalyzed three-component reaction of 2-halobenzaldehydes, hydrazines and carbon monoxide is reported. This cyclocarbonylation process can be performed smoothly under 1 atmospheric pressure of carbon monoxide to afford 2-aminoisoindolin- 1-ones in moderate to excellent yields.

Synthesis of platelet-activating factor and its receptor expression in Kupffer cells in rat carbon tetrachloride-induced cirrhosis

AIM:To determine the platelet-activating factor (PAF) synthesis and its receptor expression in Kupffer cells in rat carbon tetrachloride-induced cirrhosis. METHODS:Kupffer cells, isolated from the livers of control and CCl4-induced cirrhotic rats, were placed in serum-free medium overnight. PAF saturation binding, ET-1 saturation and competition binding were assayed. ET-1 induced PAF synthesis, mRNA expression of PAF, preproendothelin-1, endothelin A (ETA) and endothelin B (ETB) receptors were also determined. RESULTS:A two-fold increase of PAF synthesis (1.42 ± 0.14 vs 0.66 ± 0.04 pg/μg DNA) and a 1.48-fold increase of membrane-bound PAF (1.02 ± 0.06 vs 0.69 ± 0.07 pg/μg DNA) were observed in activated Kupffer cells of cirrhotic rats. The application of ET-1 to Kupffer cells induced PAF synthesis in a concentration-dependent manner in both cirrhotic and normal rats via ETB receptor, but PAF synthesis in the activated Kupffer cells was more effective than that in the normal Kupffer cells. In activated Kupffer cells, PAF receptor expression and PAF binding capacity were markedly enhanced. Activated Kupffer cells raised the [125I]-ET-1 binding capacity, but changed neither the affinity of the receptors, nor the expression of ETA receptor. CONCluSION:Kupffer cells in the course of CCl4-induced cirrhosis are the main source of increased PAF. ET-1 is involved endogenously in stimulating the PAF synthesis in activated Kupffer cells via ETB receptor by paracrine. ETA receptor did not appear in activated Kupffer cells, which may exacerbate the hepatic and extrahepatic complications of cirrhosis.

A non-labeled DNA biosensor based on light addressable potentiometric sensor modified with TiO_2 thin film

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin film was deposited on the surface of the light addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) to modify the sensor surface for the non-labeled detection of DNA molecules. To evaluate the effect of ultraviolet (UV) treatment on the silanization level of TiO2 thin film by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS),fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) was used to label the amine group on the end of APTS immobilized onto the TiO2 thin film. We found that,with UV irradiation,the silanization level of the irradiated area of the TiO2 film was improved compared with the non-irradiated area under well-controlled conditions. This result indicates that TiO2 can act as a coating material on the biosensor surface to improve the effect and efficiency of the covalent immobilization of biomolecules on the sensor surface. The artificially synthesized probe DNA molecules were covalently linked onto the surface of TiO2 film. The hybridization of probe DNA and target DNA was monitored by the recording of I-V curves that shift along the voltage axis during the process of reaction. A significant LAPS signal can be detected at 10 μmol/L of target DNA sample.

An ultrawideband reflectionless metamaterial absorber(MA)is proposed by replacing the metallic ground with the complementary split-ring resonator(CSRR)*** proposed MA exhibits-10 d B reflectivity spectrum from 1 GHz to 20 GHz,which maintains more than 90%absorption from 1.5 GHz to20 ***,it achieves angle stability for TE and TM polarization at oblique incident angles up to 40°and 65°,*** achieve broadband absorption spectrum,we have adopted a single-layer high-impedance surface(HIS)loaded with a double-layer magnetic material(MM)*** further realize the RCS reduction into a lower frequency range,we have employed the scattering cancellation technology into the traditional metallic ***,we have fabricated a sample exhibiting the 10 d B RCS reduction from 1 GHz to 20 GHz with a thickness of 10 *** and simulation results confirm that the proposed MA exhibits excellent comprehensive performance,making it suitable for many practical applications.

Factors associated with decision time for patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction

Increased delay in visiting a hospital for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is often associated with poor outcomes. The factors associated with the decision time were analyzed by comparing the characteristics of patients with delays longer or shorter than the median of 60 min. Pre-hospital delay tended to be longer for patients living in suburban areas compared to those in urban areas (P=0.015). Shorter decision time was more likely among older patients. Being married, medical insurance coverage, and the level of educational qualification did not affect decision time. More efforts should be paid to educate the patients with high risk in suburban areas in order to effectively reduce pre-hospital delays.
