Hydrogen acquisition from solar energy is an effective way to address energy crisis,which makes the development of efficient photocatalysts become the main direction of scientific research.Herein,cobalt phthalocyanine/oxygen-doped g-C_(3)N_(4)(CoPc/OCN) S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst was designed by coupling multi-step calcination with solvothermal method for enhanced photothermal-assisted photocatalytic H_(2) evolution.The multistep calcined g-C_(3)N_(4) is easier for O-doping formation,and the ethanol solvothermal strategy is utilized to enhance the dispersion of CoPc on OCN nano sheet surface and forms sufficient S-scheme heterojunction through H-bonds.In addition,the active sites and excellent photothermal properties of CoPc itself further improve the integrated photocatalytic activity of CoPc/OCN S-scheme heterojunction.The optimal photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of CoPc/OCN S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst reached 9.56 mmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1),which is 2.69 and 1.23 times higher than that of CN and OCN,respectively.This work provides a valuable design idea and scheme for enhancing the multi-factor co-assisted photocatalytic H_(2) evolution performance.

Differential expression of miRNAs and mRNAs in the livers of largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides under heat stress

Global warming threatens freshwater ecosystems and compromises fish survival.To elucidate the role of miRNAs in the livers of heat stressed largemouth bass,juvenile fish was subject to heat stress under 37°C.Both mRNA-seq and miRNA-seq were conducted on the liver tissues under control and heat stress conditions.Differential gene expression analysis and enrichment analysis were performed on mRNA and miRNA expression profiles.A total of 406 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were discovered,of which 212 were up-regulated and 194 were down-regulated.Most of the DEGs were significantly implicated in the regulation of“protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum”,“proteasome”,“steroid biosynthesis”,and“ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor activity”pathways.In addition,47 differentially expressed miRNAs(DEMs)were identified in largemouth bass livers under heat stress,including 21 up-regulated and 25 down-regulated miRNAs.A negatively regulated miRNA-mRNA network including 12 miRNAs and 19 mRNAs was constructed with DEMs involved in“protein degradation”,“calcium ion regulation”,“cell apoptosis”,and“lipid metabolism”.Moreover,this study indicated novel-miR-144 activated the IRE1 signaling pathway by targeting txndc5 to induce liver apoptosis in largemouth bass under heat stress.This study revealed the involvement of miRNA regulation in largemouth bass in response to heat stress.

Dynamic recrystallization mechanism, texture evolution development and mechanical characteristics of a Mg–8.7Gd–4.18Y–0.42Zr magnesium alloy by ECAP

Equal channel angle pressing is recognized for its ability to refine alloy grains and alter grain orientation, thereby achieve better mechanical performance of the magnesium alloy. This study investigates the microstructures,dynamic recrystallization mechanism, texture development, and mechanical performance of GW94K(Mg–8.7Gd–4.18Y–0.42Zr wt. %) Mg alloy following ECAP-4 passes at 400°C and 3 mm/min. Results show that when high-temperature deformation is undertaken, twin formation is suppressed while dislocation slip is facilitated, increasing dislocation density during deformation. Following ECAP deformation, the sample displayed higher fracture elongation, TYS, and UTS than the as-solutioned GW94K alloy. In particular, the GW94K alloy performed well mechanically after ECAP-4 passes, with an ultimate TYS of 231 MPa, an UTS of 290 MPa, and an elongation of 14.8 %. DDRX and shear bands induce CDRX, both of which are important in plastic deformation. as well as in modifying microstructure and grain orientation during ECAP deformation.

Compared with electrical neural networks,optical neural networks(ONNs)have the potentials to break the limit of the bandwidth and reduce the consumption of energy,and therefore draw much attention in recent years.By far,several types of ONNs have been implemented.However,the current ONNs cannot realize the acceleration as powerful as that indicated by the models like quantum neural networks.How to construct and realize an ONN with the quantum speedup is a huge challenge.Here,we propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally a new type of optical convolutional neural network by introducing the optical correlation.It is called the correlated optical convolutional neural network(COCNN).We show that the COCNN can exhibit“quantum speedup”in the training process.The character is verified from the two aspects.One is the direct illustration of the faster convergence by comparing the loss function curves of the COCNN with that of the traditional convolutional neural network(CNN).Such a result is compatible with the training performance of the recently proposed quantum convolutional neural network(QCNN).The other is the demonstration of the COCNN’s capability to perform the QCNN phase recognition circuit,validating the connection between the COCNN and the QCNN.Furthermore,we take the COCNN analog to the 3-qubit QCNN phase recognition circuit as an example and perform an experiment to show the soundness and the feasibility of it.The results perfectly match the theoretical calculations.Our proposal opens up a new avenue for realizing the ONNs with the quantum speedup,which will benefit the information processing in the era of big data.

Biological structural materials not only exhibit remarkable mechanical properties but also often embody dynamic characteristics such as environmental responsiveness,autonomy,and self-healing,which are difficult to achieve in conventional engineering materials.By merging materials science,synthetic biology,and other disciplines,engineered living materials(ELMs)provide a promising solution to combine living organisms with abiotic components,thus facilitating the construction of functional“living”materials.like natural materials,ELMs possess vitality and hold immense application potential in areas such as medicine,electronics,and construction,captivating increasing research attention recently.As an emerging branch of ELMs,structural ELMs aim to mimic living biological structural materials by achieving desired mechanical performance while maintaining important“living”characteristics.Here we summarize the recent progress and provide our perspectives for this emerging research area.We first summarize the superiority of structural ELMs by reviewing biological structural materials and biomimetic material design strategies.Subsequently,we provide a systematic discussion on the definition and classifications of structural ELMs,their mechanical performance,and physiological behaviors.Finally,we summarize some critical challenges faced by structural ELMs and highlight directions of future development.We hope this review article can provide a timely summary of the state of the art and relevant perspectives for future development of structural ELMs.

Impact of next-generation sequencing on antimicrobial treatment in immunocompromised adults with suspected infections

BACKGROUND:Prompt pathogen identification can have a substantial impact on the optimization of antimicrobial treatment.The objective of the study was to assess the diagnostic value of next-generation sequencing(NGS)for identifying pathogen and its clinical impact on antimicrobial intervention in immunocompromised patients with suspected infections.METHODS:This was a retrospective study.Between January and August 2020,47 adult immunocompromised patients underwent NGS testing under the following clinical conditions:1)prolonged fever and negative conventional cultures;2)new-onset fever despite empiric antimicrobial treatment;and 3)afebrile with suspected infections on imaging.Clinical data,including conventional microbial test results and antimicrobial treatment before and after NGS,were collected.Data were analyzed according to documented changes in antimicrobial treatment(escalated,no change,or deescalated)after the NGS results.RESULTS:The median time from hospitalization to NGS sampling was 19 d.Clinically relevant pathogens were detected via NGS in 61.7% of patients(29/47),more than half of whom suffered from fungemia(n=17),resulting in an antimicrobial escalation in 53.2% of patients(25/47)and antimicrobial de-escalation in 0.2% of patients(1/47).Antimicrobial changes were mostly due to the identification of fastidious organisms such as Legionella,Pneumocystis jirovecii,and Candida.In the remaining three cases,NGS detected clinically relevant pathogens also detected by conventional cultures a few days later.The antimicrobial treatment was subsequently adjusted according to the susceptibility test results.Overall,NGS changed antimicrobial management in 55.3%(26/47)of patients,and conventional culture detected clinically relevant pathogens in 14.9% of the patients(7/47).CONCLUSION:With its rapid identification and high sensitivity,NGS could be a promising tool for identifying relevant pathogens and enabling rapid appropriate treatment in immunocompromised patients with suspected infections.

Thoracic spine infection caused by Pseudomonas fluorescens:A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND The clinical incidence of spinal infection is gradually increasing,and its onset is insidious,easily leading to missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis,which may lead to serious complications such as nervous system dysfunction,spinal instability and/or deformity,and cause a huge burden on society and families.Early identification of the causative agent and precision medicine will greatly reduce the suffering of patients.At present,the main pathogenic bacteria that cause spinal infection are Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus,Pneumococcus,Escherichia coli,and Klebsiella.There are no reports of spinal infection caused by Pseudomonas fluorescens.CASE SUMMARY We report a 32-year-old female patient with spinal infection.She presented with flank pain,initially thought to be bone metastases or bone tuberculosis,and had a family background of tumors.Her clinical features and changes in imaging and laboratory tests led to the suspicion of thoracic spine infection.Histopathology of the lesion showed inflammation,tissue culture of the lesion was negative several times,and the possible pathogen-Pseudomonas fluorescens was found after gene sequencing of the lesion.The patient recovered completely after a full course of antibiotic treatment.CONCLUSION This report increases the range of pathogens involved in spinal infections,highlights the unique advantages of gene sequencing technology in difficult-todiagnose diseases,and validates conservative treatment with a full course of antibiotics for spinal infections without complications.

Promoting effect of FeOx addition on the mechanochemically prepared vanadium-based catalyst for real PCDD/Fs removal and mechanism insight

Industrial-use VOx-based catalysts usually have a higher active temperature window (>250-300℃),which becomes a“bottleneck”for the practical application of PCDD/Fs catalytic degradation technology.In this work,VO_(x)-FeO_(x)/TiO_(2) catalyst prepared via mechanochemically method was investigated for the catalytic removal of PCDD/Fs.The removal efficiency of 1,2-DCBz,pure PCDD/Fs gas generated in the lab,PCDD/Fs from actual fue gas,long-term were studied,and the degradation mechanism was explored using FTIR and TOFMS.The degradation efficiency of 1,2-DCBz and PCDD/Fs on VO_(x)-FeO_(x)/TiO_(2) were higher than that of VO_(x)/TiO_(2)catalyst,and the optimal FeOx addition ratio was 3 wt.%.The characterization results show that the addition of FeOx can effectively improve the pore structure,surface acidity,and VOx dispersion of the catalyst,thus contributing to increasing the V^(5+)content and surface-active oxygen,which is conducive to the improvement of adsorption and redox performance of the catalyst.Under the actual MSWI (municipal solid waste incineration)fue gas,the PCDD/Fs removal efficiency over VTi-3Fe-MC maintained long-term stability,higher than 85%for 240 min.This result was not significantly reduced compared with the data obtained in the laboratory.According to the analysis results of intermediate products by FTIR and GC-TOFMS,it can be inferred that the epoxidation fracture of benzene ring is the rate-limiting step of dioxin catalytic degradation reaction.This work gives an in-depth view into the PCDD/Fs removal over VO_(x)-FeO_(x)/TiO_(2) catalysts and could provide guidelines for the rational design of reliable catalysts for industrial applications.

Numerical study on the effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity of porous media with different morphologies

Effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity are crucial parameters for evaluating the effectiveness of heat conduction within porous media. The direct pore-scale numerical simulation method is applied to investigate the heat conduction processes inside porous structures with different morphologies. The thermal conduction performances of idealized porous structures are directly compared with real foams across a wide range of porosity. Real foam structures are reconstructed using X-ray computed tomography and image processing techniques, while Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures are generated through periodic unit cell reconstruction. The detailed temperature fields inside the porous structures are determined by solving the heat conduction equation at the pore scale. The results present that the equivalent thermal conductivity of Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures is similar to and greater than that of the real foam structure with the same strut porosity. The thermal tortuosity of real foam structure is relatively larger and the heat conduction path becomes straighter by adopting the anisotropic design. The thermal tortuosity of the fluid channels for Kelvin, Weaire-Phelan, and real foam structures is close to one. The thermal conductivity of porous structures with heat transfer fluid increases as the thermal conductivity ratio of fluid to solid becomes larger. A small porosity of porous media leads to a larger equivalent thermal conductivity due to the dominant contribution of porous skeleton in the heat conduction process. Correlations derived from parallel and series models, as well as the Maxwell-Eucken models,provide decent predictions of effective thermal conductivity, with an average error of less than 8% in the entire range of thermal conductivity ratio.

Novel approach of ultrasound-guided lateral recess block for a patient with lateral recess stenosis: A case report

BACKGROUND Ultrasound guide technology,which can provide real-time visualization of the needle tip and tissues and avoid many adverse events,is widely used in mini-mally invasive therapy.However,the studies on ultrasound-guided Lateral recess block(LRB)are limited,this is probably because there is no recognized standard method for ultrasound scanning.This study aimed to evaluate the effect of ultrasound-guided LRB in patients with lateral recess stenosis(LRS).CASE SUMMARY A 65-year-old patient complained of low back pain accompanied occasionally by pain and numbness in the left lower limb.Physical examination showed ten-derness on the spinous process and paraspinal muscles from L1 to S1,extensor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior weakness(muscle strength:4-),and a positive straight leg raising test in the left lower limb(60°).Magnetic resonance imaging showed L4–L5 disc degeneration with left LRS and nerve root entrapment.Subsequently,the patient was diagnosed with LRS.This patient was treated with a novel ultrasound-guided LRB approach.The patient’s symptoms significantly improved without any complications at 1 wk postoperatively and at the 3-month follow-up.CONCLUSION This is the first report on the LRS treatment with ultrasound-guided LRB from the contralateral spinous process along the inner side of the articular process by out-plane technique.Further studies are expected to investigate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided LRB for patients with LRS.
