Background Emotional attention refers to the capacity to recognize and properly respond to one’s and others’ emotional states. On another note, family is a primary source of socialization that influences the development of various social skills. In another line, adolescence is a complex stage that has been associated with emotional difficulties that could be related to competences such as prosociability and inclusion. It is inferred that through the family context and the attention that is processed, a series of competencies are transmitted to the youngsters, but this relationship is still unclear. For this reason, the study’s purpose was to examine the relationship between the emotional attention of mothers and fathers and the social and prosocial competencies of their children. Methods To accomplish this, a cross-sectional study and ex post facto design were conducted. The Trait-Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24)-to assess emotional attention-, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)-to determine the prosociality dimension-, and the Test on Passing Developmental Tasks in Adolescence (TCS-A)-to measure social inclusion-were administered. The participants were N = 228 families composed of n = 114 mothers/fathers (67.5% females) and n = 114 daughters/sons (38.5% females) selected through non-probabilistic sampling using a convenience sample in the Bari region of Italy. A descriptive and inferential analysis-Student’s test and Pearson’s correlation-was performed with the statistic package SPSS version 28 (significance level p < 0.05). Results The findings showed that the families possessed an adequate background in emotional attention and that their daughters and sons were also generally well-adjusted in social inclusion and prosociality. It also found certain signs that the prosocial competence of the children could be related to the behavior of their mothers and fathers. Review of Obstetrics and Perinatal Outcome of Multiple Pregnancies with Vanishing and Selective Embryo Reduction in an Oocyte Donation Program

To check previous findings of the most common complications among pregnancies with vanishing embryo（VE） in another actual study retropective and in group of patiens with selective embryo reduction （SER） Methods We defined vanishing phenomenon as the spontaneous loss of one or more embryos after visualizing heart activity at the first trimester of pregnancy. Selective embryo reduction was performed between 8th-12th pregnancy week, through vaginal punction and aspiration of embryonic mass. Results Vanishing embryo was observed in 86 patients （18.0%）. In 61 patients （70.9%） this phenomenom happened before 9th pregnancy week. The incidence of VE increased with higher number of gestational sacs initially visualized （P〈0.03）. First trimester bleeding was more common among pregnancies with VE than in the control （P〈0.005）. The incidence of pregnancy induced hypertension was lower in pregnancies with VE than in the controls （P〈0.03）. In contrast, preterm spontaneous rupture of membranes was higher, although without statistical significance. Gestational age at delivery, mode of delivery and birth weight was similar in the group of VE and the controls （P=NS）. Conclusion All these informations may be useful in counselling patients on the prognosis and outcome of pregnancies achieved by oocyte donation.

Oxidative stress is a common condition suffered by biological systems in aerobic conditions. Human semen also has its own molecular guard against the free radicals created by normal respiratory process or from immune reactions. The equilibrium of the creation and scavenging of free radicals is mandatory in the spermatozoa to fertilize and initiate a full-term pregnancy. The paper is a systematic review of publications that evaluate oxidative stress in semen. The Cochrane Library, Medline (1966-2003), Embase (1988-2003), SciSearch (1981-2003) and the conference papers were searched. When sperm samples from fertile and infertile males were analyzed, some of the mechanisms that determine the oxidative stress level were found to be impaired while others were unaltered. In conclusion, the literature as a whole provides contradictory findings and it is necessary to carry out more work to identify all the enzymatic and non-enzymatic systems involved in oxidative stress in the ejaculate, in order to develop new diagnostic systems and therapeutic strategies for combating detrimental free radical imbalance in the semen.

The Use of Chloride, Citric and Ascorbic Acid Dip and Packaged Film to Extend the Shelf Life of Pejerrey (<i>Odonthested bonaerensis</i>) during Storage at Different Temperatures

The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of chloride, citric and ascorbic acid dip treatments in conjunction with two types of packaging films (with high and low gas permeability) on microbial growth in samples of pejerrey fillets (Odonthestes bonaerensis) at three storage temperatures (4°C, 0°C and -1.5°C). Colour, pH, texture modification and chemical changes were also studied. Psychrotrophic microorganisms, sp. were modelled by the Gompertz’ equation. Lag phase duration, specific growth rate and maximum population density were calculated. The activation energy (Eµ) was calculated reaching values of 147 and 177 kJ/mol when the low permeability packaging films were employed. We used psychrotrophic microorganisms, sp., as a predictor of the shelf life of product. The application of treatment with chloride, citric and ascorbic acids, extended 1 - 2 days the storage life of the product (time to reach 106 CFU/g) when the packaging material used was polyethylene. The use of chloride, citric and ascorbic acids and vacuum packaging produced shelf life values of 7.7, >25 and >25 days at 4°C, 0°C and -1.5°C respectively. The products had very good organoleptic characteristics, maintained their colour and texture appropriate, and absence of pathogenic microorganisms. These values indicated that the growth models were acceptable for expressing the growth of microorganisms on pejerrey fillets, which can be applied to ensure the safety of fish and to establish standards for avoiding microbial contamination.

Percutaneous Ultrasound-Guided Radiofrequency Thermal Ablation for Treatment of Uterine Fibroids

Purpose: To assess the safety, efficacy and effectiveness of percutaneous radiofrequency (RF) thermal ablation to reduce symptoms of uterine fibroids. Materials and Methods: 17 premenopausal women with symptomatic uterine fibroids despite conventional medical treatment were included. The assessment of symptoms and characteristics of fibroids by vaginal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) was performed before starting treatment and 6 months after the procedure. Successful treatment was clinically considered if patients reported a reduction in symptoms 6 months after RF myolysis. Successful treatment was also considered if the necrosis of the fibroid was greater than 50%, 6 months after treatment. Results: The baseline score on visual analogue scale (VAS) for dysmenorrhea and intermenstrual pain was 5.76 ± 3.31 and 3.0 ± 3.4, respectively. According to a score of 0 - 3, baseline bleeding during menstruation was 2.29 ± 0.92. Six months after RF myolysis, the VAS for dysmenorrhea was 2.75 ± 3.32 (p = 0.004), whereas for intermenstrual pain it was 1.38 ± 2.56 (p = 0.02). Menstrual bleeding was reduced to 1.13 ± 0.89 (p = 0.005). Clinical success of the treatment was evident in 11 (64.7%) of the 17 patients with a 95% CI [38.6%, 84.7%]. Fourteen patients underwent MRI monitoring 6 months post-myolysis. Compared to baseline fibroid volume, ultrasound and MRI volume were 57.38% and 79.66% six months after surgery, respectively. A total of 13 patients (92.86%) had radiological success from the treatment (95% CI [64.2%, 99.6%]). Conclusion: Since percutaneous RF myolysis reduces volume and symptoms of uterine fibroids, it may be considered as a valid treatment for symptomatic fibroids.

Pre-hCG variables associated with occurrence of ascites in IVF/ICSI patients at moderate risk of developing OHSS:A pilot investigation

Objective: To identify predictors of ascites collected prior to the hCG administration in patients undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment at moderate risk of developing moderate/severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and, based on these predictors, develop a nomogram for estimation of the probability of presence of ascites. Methods and Materials: Data were derived from 53 patients with 20 - 30 follicles ≥10 mmat end of stimulation. All patients received a single dose of hCG (250 mg) to trigger final follicular maturation when ≥2 follicles of ≥18 mmwere observed. Transvaginal ultrasound to measure ascites (total amount of peritoneal fluid ≥9 cm2inlithotomy position) was performed 2, 5 and 8 days after the hCG administration. Associations between clinical, sonographic and endocrinological variables recorded prior to the hCG administration and presence of ascites were analyzed by univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Results: Thirty-four patients (64%) had ultrasonic evidence of ascites. The multivariable analysis identified the total number of follicles [OR 1.29 (95% CI: 1.02 - 1.69, P = 0.043)], the ovarian volume [OR 1.05 (95% CI: 1.00 - 1.11, P = 0.047)] and BMI [OR 0.76 (95% CI: 0.56 - 0.99, P = 0.053)] as predictors of ascites (AUC = 0.825). A nomogram (PROFET) was designed with these three variables for individual prediction of the probability of development of ascites. Conclusions: This pilot investigation indicates that the risk of peritoneal fluid accumulation in IVF/ICSI patients at moderate risk of developing moderate/severe OHSS is influenced by the number of follicles and the ovarian volume on the day of hCG administration as well as the BMI.
