Chinese Internet Searches Provide Inaccurate and Misleading Information to Epilepsy Patients

Background： Most patients with epilepsy want to learn as much as possible about the disease, and many have turned to the internet for information. Patients are likely to use information obtained from the internet to control their epilepsy, but little is known about the accuracy of this information. In this survey, we have assessed the feasibility and usability ofinternet-based interventions for the treatment of epilepsy. Methods： Data were collected from an internet search. Different search terms were used to obtain general information on epilepsy together with information about medication, types of epilepsy, treatment, women＇s health, and other information. The accuracy of the information was evaluated by a group of experts. Results： A total of 1320 web pages were assessed. The majority were websites related to health. A large number （80.2%） of web pages contained content related to the search term. A significant number of web pages 450/1058 （42.5%） claimed to provide information from a credible source： however, only 206/1058 （19.5%） of the information was accurate and complete; 326/1058 （30.8%） was accurate but incomplete; 328/1058 （31.0%） was correct but nonstandard, and 198/1058 （18.8%） was inaccurate. The authenticity of the information was not significantly different between the two search engines （x^2 = 0.009, P - 0.924）. No significant difference was observed in the information obtained from a specialist or nonspecialist source （x^2 = 7.538, P- 0.057）. There was also no correlation between the quality of the information and the priority （x^2 = 6.880, P = 0,076）. Conclusions： Searching for information about epilepsy on the internet is convenient, but the information provided is not reliable. Too much information is inaccurate or for advertisement purposes, and it is difficult for patients to find the useful information. Turning to the internet for medical knowledge may be harmful. DIFFErenCES IN INTERICTAL PERFUSION PATTERNS BETWEEN REFRACTORY AND NON-REFRACTORY TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSIES EVALUATED WITH FAIR AT 3.0T

Objective To investigate the difference in interictal perfusion patterns between refractory and non-refractory temporal lobe epilepsies evaluated with flow-sensitive alternating inversion recovery (FAIR) magnetic resonance (MR) sequence. Methods Nine patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy, 21 patients with non-refractory temporal lobe epilepsy, and 13 normal volunteers underwent FAIR MR scanning. The relative cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in bilateral hemispheres and mesial temporal lobes were measured. And we also calculated the asymmetry index (AI) values. Results The AI values of bilateral hemispheres in refractory and non-refractory epilepsy patients were both significantly different from those of volunteers (P=0.012 and 0.029, respectively). There was significant difference in AI values of bilateral mesial temporal lobes between non-refractory epilepsy patients and volunteers (P=0.049), while no significant difference between refractory epilepsy patients and volunteers. Conclusions The hypoperfusion pattern of interictal refractory temporal lobe epilepsy patients is different from that of non-refractory patients. Although the hypoperfusion tends to extend out of temporal lobes in all patients, the refractory epilepsy patients have a preference of bilateral mesial temporal hypoperfusion, which may be valuable for evaluating prognosis.

METABOLIC ABNORMALITIES IN MESIAL TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY PATIENTS DEPICTED BY PROTON MR SPECTROSCOPY USING A 3.0T MR SCANNER

Objective To evaluate metabolic abnormalities in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy （MTLE） with proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy （MRS） using a 3.0T MR scanner. Methods Sixty-three patients （32 women and 31 men） with diagnosed MTLE underwent diagnostic MR imaging （MRI） and proton MRS using a 3.0T MR scanner. The clinical history and interictal epileptiform discharges （IEDs） were recorded. Sixteen healthy volunteers served as control. The results of proton MRS were compared with the findings of electroencephalogram and structural MRI findings. Results Twenty-seven of the 63 patients with MTLE showed unilateral hippocampal sclerosis, and 9 showed bilateral hippocampal sclerosis. The concentration ratio of N-acytelaspartate （NAA） / [ creatine （ Cr ）＋ choline （Cho） ] in the hippocampal region of MTLE patients （0. 64±0. 07） was significantly lower than control （0. 80±0. 05, P = 0.023）. In the patients with unilateral hippocampal sclerosis, NAA/（Cr ＋ Cho） in the hippocampal region ipsilateral to the sclerotic hippocampus （0.56±0.06） was significantly lower than the ratio in the contralateral hippocampal region （0.69±0.07, P 〈 0. 001 ）. There was significant difference in hippocampal NAA/（ Cr ＋ Cho） between the refractory patients and the non-refractory patients （0. 64±0. 05 vs.0.71±0. 07, P =0. 04）. Forty-five patients were lateralized by IEDs, while 49 patients were lateralized by metabolite ratio. And lateralization determined by proton MRS and IEDs was concordant in 33 patients. Conclusions MRS as a noninvasive tool adds helpful metabolite information to routine MRI in evaluation of MTLE. The method is well established and should be a routine clinical application in the investigation of epilepsy.

Selective immobilization of Pb(Ⅱ)by biogenic whewellite and its mechanism

The development of bio-adsorbents with highly selective immobilization properties for specific heavy metals is a great challenge,but has important application *** whewellite(BW)with high selectivity for Pb(Ⅱ)was synthesized by mineral microbial *** selective immobilization properties and mechanism of BW for Pb(Ⅱ)were analyzed by combining mineral characterization technology and batch adsorption research *** results indicated that BW can efficiently and selectively immobilize Pb(Ⅱ)in single or composite heavy metal adsorption solutions,and the immobilized Pb(Ⅱ)is difficult to *** undergoes monolayer adsorption on Pb(Ⅱ),Qmax≈1073.17 mg/*** immobilization of Pb(Ⅱ)by BW is a physico-chemical adsorption process with spontaneous heat absorption and an accompanying increase in *** addition,the sequestration of Pb(Ⅱ)by BW remains around 756.99 mg/g even at p H=*** excellent selective immobilization properties of BW for Pb(Ⅱ)are closely related to its smaller Ksp,electrostatic repulsion effect,organic-inorganic composite structure,acid resistance and the formation of Pb(Ⅱ)*** study provides beneficial information about the recycling of lead in acidic lead-containing wastewater and composite heavy metal contaminated water bodies.

Bio-inspired macrostructure array(MAA,size:submillimeter to millimeter scale)materials with special wettability(MAAMs-SW)have attracted significant research attention due to their outstanding performance in many applications,including oil repellency,liquid/droplet manipulation,anti-icing,heat transfer,water collection,and oil–water *** this review,we focus on recent developments in the theory,design,fabrication,and application of bio-inspired *** first review the history of the basic theory of special wettability and discuss representative structures and corresponding functions of some biological surfaces,thus setting the stage for the design and fabrication of bio-inspired *** then summarize the fabrication methods of special wetting MAAs in terms of three categories:additive manufacturing,subtractive manufacturing,and formative manufacturing,as well as their diverse functional applications,providing insights into the development of these ***,the challenges and directions of future research on bio-inspired MAAMs-SW are briefy *** efforts,progress,and breakthroughs from surface engineering to functional applications elaborated herein will promote the practical application of bio-inspired MAAMs-SW.

Cyclone pyrolyzer is a novel type of downer that combines centrifugal force field and double-layer cyclone *** on transfer behavior is helpful to optimize the pyrolyzer to meet the needs of *** this study,the Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics(CPFD)model is used to analyze the transfer behavior of binary particles,and finds that the swirl and reaction have a synergistic *** effect can increase the heating rate of the particles to the range of flash pyrolysis,and its mechanism lies in the flow field structure of the *** to the centrifugal force field,the particles gather to the near *** rapid swirl,which facilitates intense gas-solid heat transfer,leads to the rapid heating and pyrolysis of biomass *** the pyrolysis proceeds,the mass of the biomass particles becomes smaller and they are more easily affected by the gas flow in *** the action of gas flow,char particles serve as new heat carrier to form the inner cycle of particles,which strengthens the heating *** pyrolysis products are discharged from the exhaust port in time with the flow field of the pyrolyzer to achieve separation from the heat carrier and inhibit the occurrence of secondary reactions.

Organic conjugated polymers have received extensive attention due to their unique electronic ***,there have been relatively few reports on the dark photocatalytic reactions utilizing organic conjugated ***,we report the successful synthesis of an organic conjugated polymer based on poly(heptazine imide)nanocrystals(CNNCs)for H_(2)O_(2)evolution and biomedical applications using a simple salt molten method and sonication-centrifugation *** results show that these colloid CNNCs have the characteristics of photogenerated electrons accumulation and realize dark photocatalysis with high reducibility under visible light ***,these accumulating photogenerated electrons can reduce O_(2)in darkness to produce H_(2)O_(2).In addition,cytotoxicity tests were conducted and it was found that H_(2)O_(2)produced under dark conditions could oxidize L-arginine(L-Arg)to NO,which effectively killed tumors in the *** work provides an important strategy to construct organic conjugated semiconductor nanocrystals and applying them to future energy and biomedical fields.

CD87-targeted BiTE and CAR-T cells potently inhibit invasive nonfunctional pituitary adenomas

Recently, bispecific T-cell engagers(BiTEs) and chimeric antigen receptor-modified T cells(CAR-Ts) have been shown to have high therapeutic efficacy in hematological tumors. CD87 is highly expressed in solid tumors with an oncogenic function. To assess their cytotoxic effects on invasive nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas(iNFPAs), we first examined CD87 expression and its effects on the metabolism of iNFPA cells. We generated CD87-specific BiTE and CAR/IL-12 T cells, and their cytotoxic effects on iNFPAs cells and in mouse models were determined. CD87 had high expression in i NFPA tissue and cell samples but was undetected in noncancerous brain samples. CD87×CD3 BiTE and CD87 CAR/IL-12 T-cells showed antigenic specificity and exerted satisfactory cytotoxic effects, decreasing tumor cell proliferation in vitro and reducing existing tumors in experimental mice. Overall, the above findings suggest that CD87 is a promising target for the immunotherapeutic management of iNFPAs using anti-CD87 BiTE and CD87-specific CAR/IL-12 T cells.

Experimental Study on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Rough Risers Coupling with Interference Effect in Tandem Arrangement

In order to study the response law of vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of marine risers under the combined action of roughness and interference effects,and to reveal the coupling mechanism of roughness and interference effects on the riser,a VIV experiment of rough risers in tandem arrangement was conducted in a wave−current combined *** experiment characterized the risers’roughness by arranging different specifications of attachments on the surface of the *** rough risers with different roughness and smooth risers were arranged in tandem arrangement,with the rough risers arranged *** experimental results indicate that the suppression of the attachments on the downstream risers’vibration are more significant both in the CF and IL directions as the reduced velocity *** the downstream riser,the amplitude response of rough riser is more significantly weakened compared with the smooth one at high reduced *** the upstream risers,changes in the roughness and spacing ratio have an impact on their‘lock-in’*** the roughness of downstream risers is relatively large(0.1300)and the spacing between risers is small(S/D=4.0),the reduced velocity range of‘lock-in’region in the CF direction of upstream risers is obviously expanded,and the displacement in the‘lock-in’region is severer.
