This study utilizes Direct FE^(2) multiscale simulation techniques to propose an innovative approach for analyzing hydrogen diffusion in Zircaloy *** method combines finite element simulations at two scales into a monolithic framework by utilizing downscaling rules and scaling *** the investigation,it was found that voids induce non-uniform diffusion of lattice hydrogen,demonstrating a strong correlation between trapped concentration and ***,the accumulation of trapped hydrogen leads to localized plastic deformation and a reduction in effective ***,two representative volume elements were established to depict the void distribution at various stages of its *** is evident that in the initial phases of void evolution,the hydrogen-induced softening effect facilitates crack propagation deep within the zirconium alloy ***,as void evolution progresses into the second stage,this effect intensifies the incidence of localized damage at the narrow inter-void ligaments.

Background: The TNM staging system is far from perfect in predicting the survival of individual cancer patients because only the gross anatomy is considered. The survival rates of the patients who have the same TNM stage disease vary across a wide spectrum. This study aimed to develop a nomogram that incorporates other clinicopathologic factors for predicting the overall survival(OS) of non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients after curative ***: We retrospectively collected the clinical data of 1520 NPC patients who were diagnosed histologically between November 2000 and September 2003. The clinical data of a separate cohort of 464 patients who received intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT) between 2001 and 2010 were also retrieved to examine the extensibility of the model. Cox regression analysis was used to identify the prognostic factors for building the nomogram. The predictive accuracy and discriminative ability were measured using the concordance index(c-index).Results: We identiied and incorporated 12 independent clinical factors into the nomogram. The calibration curves showed that the prediction of OS was in good agreement with the actual observation in the internal validation set and IMRT cohort. The c-index of the nomogram was statistically higher than that of the 7th edition TNM staging system for predicting the survival in both the primary cohort(0.69 vs. 0.62) and the IMRT cohort(0.67 vs. 0.63).Conclusion: We developed and validated a novel nomogram that outperformed the TNM staging system in predicting the OS of non-metastatic NPC patients who underwent curative therapy.

This paper compares the torque characteristics of single stator permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)and double-stator PMSM under different split-ratios,air-gap lengths and shaft diameters by finite element ***,the effects of split-ratio towards the torque characteristics of the two motor structures under different air-gap lengths are researched,the results show that the optimal split-ratios of the two motor structures do not change under different air-gap lengths,and the optimal split-ratio of the double-stator motor is greater than that of single-stator,and the torque of the double-stator motor is greater than that of single-stator motor with arbitrary split-ratio under the same air-gap length;Finally,the effects of the shaft diameter to the torque of the two motor structures are investigated,obtaining that with the increasing of shaft diameter,the electromagnetic torque of the single-stator motor is almost unchanged,however,the torque of the double-stator is gradually reduced,when the shaft diameter reached a certain extent,the electromagnetic torque of the double-stator motor is smaller than that of single-stator motor with the split ratio within a certain range,and the torque/quality ratio of the double-stator motor is smaller than that of single-stator motor with their optimal split ratio separately.

Combustion Characteristic and Mechanism of a Mixture Working Fluid C_(3)H_(8)/CO_(2)

In the CO_(2)transcritical power cycle,conventional cooling water can hardly condense subcritical CO_(2)because its critical temperature is as low as 30.98°*** order to avoid this condensing problem,CO_(2)-based mixtures have been proposed as working fluids for transcritical power *** can raise the critical temperature by mixing a little C_(3)H_(8)as the secondary component to CO_(2).However,the flammability of the mixture may limit its *** article investigated laminar flame speed of C_(3)H_(8)/CO_(2)which represents the mixture’s combustion characteristic by a so-called heat flux method and studied the inhibition mechanism of CO_(2)on the combustion based on the Premixed Laminar Flame-Speed Calculation reactor of *** experimental results showed that the laminar flame speed shows a peak value with changing the equivalence ratio and accelerates with raising the mole fraction of the organic ***,a slight upwards trend was observed for the corresponding equivalence ratio of the *** flammable range for the equivalence ratio extended with the mole fraction of C_(3)H_(8)*** the mole fraction of C_(3)H_(8)of 0.15,the maximum laminar flame speed was 12.8 cm/s,31.7%of that of the pure C_(3)H_(8).The flammable range was from 0.41 to 1.33,decreasing by 23.3%compared with that of C_(3)H_(8).A flammable critical mixing ratio was also found as 0.08/0.92 for C_(3)H_(8)/CO_(2)at the normal *** simulating,it was found that the most key free radical and elementary reaction which determine the inhibition of CO_(2)on the combustion are OH and H+O_(2)=O+OH,respectively.

Wing polymorphism significantly contributes to the ecological success of some insect *** example,the brown planthopper(BPH)Nilaparvata lugens,which is one of the most destructive rice pests in Asia,can develop into either highly mobile long-winged or highly fecund short-winged adult morphs.A recent study reported a highly provocative result that the Hox gene UIltrabithorax(Ubx)is expressed in BPH forewings and showed that this wing development gene is differentially expressed in nymphs that develop into long-winged versus short-winged ***,we found that Ubx may be a mir-9a target,and used dual luciferase reporter assays and injected micro RNA(miRNA)mimics and inhibitors to confirm the interactions between mir-9a and *** measured the mir-9a and NIUbx expression profiles in nymphs and found that the expression of these two biomolecules was negatively *** rearing BPH nymphs on host rice plants with different nutritional status,we were able to characterize a regulatory cascade between insulin receptor genes,mir-9a,and NIUbx that regulate wing length in *** host quality was low,NIInRI expression in the nymph terga increased and NIInR2 expression decreased;this led to a higher mir-9a level,which in turn reduced the NIUbx transcript level and ultimately resulted in longer wing *** extending our understanding of the interplay between host plant status and genetic events that modulate polymorphism,we demonstrated both the upstream signal and miRNA-based regulatory mechanism that control Ubx expression in BPH forewings.

The occurrence of high temperature(HT)in crop production is becoming more frequent and unpredictable with global warming,severely threatening food *** state of an organ’s growth and development is largely determined by the temperature conditions it is exposed to over *** is the main cereal crop,and its stem growth and plant architecture are closely related to lodging resistance,and especially sensitive to ***,systematic research on the timing effect of HT on the sequentially developing internode and stem is currently *** identify the timing effect of HT on the morphology and plasticity of the stem in maize,two hybrids(Zhengdan 958(ZD958),Xianyu 335(XY335))characterized by distinct morphological traits in the stem were exposed to a 7-day HT treatment from the V6 to V17 stages(Vn presents the vegetative stage with n leaves fully expanded)in *** results demonstrated that exposure to HT during V6-V12 accelerated the rapid elongation of *** instance,HT occurring at V7 and V12 specifically promoted the lengths and weights of the 3rd-5th and 9th-11th internodes,***,HT slowed the growth of internodes adjacent to the promoted ***,compared with control,the plant height was significantly increased soon after HT treatment,but the promotion effect became narrower at the subsequent flowering stage,demonstrating a self-adjusting mechanism in the maize plant in response to ***,HT altered the plant architectures,including a rising of the ear position and increase in the ear position ***335 exhibited greater sensitivity in stem development than ZD958 under HT *** findings improve our systematic understanding of the plasticity of internode and plant architecture in response to the timing of HT exposure.

The melting of crystals is one of the most common and general phase transition ***, the mechanism of crystal melting is not well understood, and more experimental measurements and explorations are still *** mechanical spectra of propylene carbonate and 1,3-propanediol during the crystal melting processes are measured by the reed vibration mechanical spectroscopy for liquids(RMS-L) for the first *** experimental results show that as the temperature increases, the real part of the complex Young modulus first decreases slowly, and then quickly drops to zero;meanwhile, its imaginary part increases slowly at first, then goes up and drops quickly to zero, showing a peak of internal *** analyses indicate that both the real and imaginary parts can present some characteristics of the melting process, such as the transition from the disconnected liquid regions to the connected liquid regions, that from the connected crystal regions to the disconnected crystal regions, and so *** addition, the results show that the melting rate per unit volume of crystalline phase versus temperature satisfies the Arrhenius relation at the initial stage of melting, and deviates from this relation as the temperature increases to a certain ***, the RMS-L will provide an effective supplement for the further study of melting.

The phase tuning characteristics of a double-longitudinal-mode He-Ne laser with optical feedback are *** phase behaviors of the two adjacent longitudinal modes are studied with different laser cavity lengths at the weak feedback level,and it is found that the phase difference of the two modes can be 0 to 180°along with the changing of the length of external *** high-density intensity fringes are obtained with asymmetric feedback cavity at a strong feedback *** particular,the phase difference is also observed between the two high-density fringes of adjacent modes,which have the potential to develop a direction sensitive laser feedback interferometer with high resolution.A simple theoretical analysis is presented,which fits well with the experimental results.
