To achieve stable positive electrode for promoting the overall electrochemical performance of Al batteries(ABs),here novel cobalt boride(CoB)nanoclusters are synthesized to construct composite electrodes with few-layer graphene(FLG).Due to the presence of amorphous channels in the employed CoB nanoclusters,the ABs with FLG/CoB composite positive electrodes exhibit high *** and both mechanical and electrochemical stability in the *** assistance of in situ scanning electron microscopy(SEM),the observation results suggest that the positive electrode of CoB nanoclusters holds almost ignorable volume variation upon electrochemical processes,which substantially alleviates the massive electrode expansion induced by the anion intercalation in the composite positive ***,the composite positive electrodes provide stable reversible energy storage capability within a broadened temperature range(-30-60℃),promising a novel strategy to design advanced ABs positive electrodes with enhanced overall energy storage performance.

Characterization of Phase Transition in Heisenberg Fluids from Density Functional Theory

The phase transition of Heisenberg fluid has been investigated with the density functional theory in mean-field approximation （MF）. The matrix of the second derivatives of the grand canonical potential Ω with respect to the particle density fluctuations and the magnetization fluctuations has been investigated and diagonalized. The smallest eigenvalue being 0 signalizes the phase instability and the related eigenvector characterizes this phase transition. We find a Curie line where the order parameter is pure magnetization and a spinodal where the order parameter is a mixture of particle density and magnetization. Along the spinodal, the character of phase instability changes continuously from predominant condensation to predominant ferromagnetic phase transition with the decrease of total density. The spinodal meets the Curie line at the critical endpoint with the reduced density p＊=pσ3=0.224 and the reduced temperature T＊ =kT/ε=1.87 （σ is the diameter of Heisenberg hard sphere and e is the coupling constant）.

Phase Transitions in a Mixture of Hard-Sphere Dipoles and Neutral Hard Spheres

Using the reference hypernetted chain （RHNC） integral equation theory and a rigorous stability analysis method, we investigate the phase behavior of a mixture of hard-sphere dipoles and neutral hard spheres based on the correlations of the homogeneous isotropic phase. Lowering the temperature down to the points where the RHNC equations fail to have a solution, several ttuctuations strongly increase. At low densities our results indicate the onset of ／ chain formation, which is similar with the pure DHS system. At high densities, the results indicate the appearance of isotropic-to-ferroelectric transitions （small neutral hard spheres concentrations） and demixing transitions （large neutral hard spheres concentrations）.

We report the application of multilayered polyelectrolyte-coated gold nanorods(GNRs) as multifunctional optical contrast agents for cancer cell *** surface modification of GNRs improves their chemical stability and facilitates them to be taken up by cancer cells through electrostatic *** unique longitudinal surface plasmon resonance property of GNRs makes them suitable as both "scattering contrast agents" and "Raman contrast agents".In our experiments,the staining of GNRs in cells was further confirmed by dark field microscopy and Raman *** experiment results indicated that GNRs have great potential as multifunctional "optical contrast agents" for future in vivo animal imaging.

Theoretical Studies on the Iodine-catalyzed Nucleophilic Addition of Acetone with Five-membered Heterocycles

The iodine-catalyzed nucleophilic addition reactions of pyrrole, furan, or thiophene with acetone were studied in gas and solvent by the density functional theory at the level of Lanl2DZ^＊. It was seen that the halogen bond between iodine and carbonyl oxygen appeared to have an important catalytic effect on such reactions, and the first iodine molecule maximally diminished the barrier height by 41 kJ/mol, while the second iodine molecule could not improve such reactions largely. It was concluded that the C2-addition was generally more favorable than the C3-addition for the three heterocycles; however, iodine considerably more effectively catalyzed the C3-addition than the C2-addition for pyrrole. It was also revealed by PCM calculation that the iodine-catalyzed nucleophilic additions occurred more easily in solvent than in gas, which explained the experiment performed by Bandgar et al..

Key roles of micro-particles in water on occurrence of cavitation-erosion of hydro-machinery

It has been believed for about one hundred years that the cavitation directly induces the cavitation erosion. It is proposed in this research that cavitation is only the necessary condition but not the sufficient condition of the cavitation erosion. The experiment performed on the rotary disk cavitation system shows that the micro-particles in the fluid play indispensable roles in the cavitation erosion process, and the generation of the erosion pits on the steel surface is also affected by the particles' size. These cracks and deformations on the sample surface indicate that the erosion is the result of the mechanical behavior. Numerical calculations are also provided to support this mechanism.

Maxillary protrusion combined with mandibular retraction is a highly prevalent but extremely complex maxillofacial deformity that can have a serious negative impact on patients’facial aesthetics and mental *** traditional orthodontic treatment strategy often involves extracting 4 first premolars and conventional fixed techniques,combined with mini-implant screws,to retract the anterior teeth and improve facial *** recent years,an invisible orthodontic technique,without brackets,has become increasingly ***,while an invisible aligner has been used in some cases with reasonable results,there remain significant challenges in achieving a perfect *** case report presents an adolescent patient with bimaxillary protrusion and mandibular *** on the characteristics of the invisible aligners and the growth characteristics of the adolescent’s teeth and jawbone,we designed precise three-dimensional tooth movement and corresponding resistance/over-correction for each tooth,while utilizing the patient’s jawbone growth potential to promote rapid development of the mandible,accurately and efficiently correcting bimaxillary protrusion and skeletal mandibular *** patient’s facial aesthetics,especially the lateral morphology,have been greatly improved,and various aesthetic indicators have also shown significant changes,and to the patient’s great benefit,invasive mini-implant screws were not used during the *** case highlights the advantages of using invisible aligners in adolescent maxillary protrusion combined with mandibular retraction ***,comprehensive and accurate design combined with good application of growth potential can also enable invisible orthodontic technology to achieve perfect treatment effects in tooth extractions,providing clinical guidance for orthodontists.

Novel rapid tissue lysis method to evaluate cancer proteins: Correlation between elevated Bcl-X_L expression and colorectal cancer cell proliferation

AIM： We optimized a rapid and efficient tissue lysis method using the MagNA Lyser （Roche, Germany）. Using this novel method combined with immunoblot analysis, we investigated the correlation between abnormal Bcl-XL expression and clinicopathological characteristics in colorectal cancer. METHODS： Tissue samples from Sprague-Dawley rats were tested to determine optimal lysis conditions for use with MagNA Lyser. We next used the new method to extract tissue proteins from the tumor tissue of a colorectal cancer patient. The availability of extractable tissue proteins for proteomic study was demonstrated by two-dimensional （2D） gel electrophoresis and subsequent matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight （MALDI-TOF） mass spectrometry. In addition, we prepared tissue lysates from paired tumor tissues and adjacent nontumor tissues of 50 colorectal carcinoma patients. Ensuing immunoblot analyses were performed to detect the level of Bcl-X, expression. RESULTS： The optimal sample sizes processed were found to be around 200 mg, with oscillation frequency of 6 500 r/rain for 80 s. Test of the first human tissue lysate confirmed that the MagNA Lyser method was adequate for protein extraction and subsequent identification by current proteomic protocols. The method was also applicable to immunoblot analysis. Thirty of 50 （60%） colorectal patients exhibited higher level of Bcl-XL expression in their tumor tissues. Raised level of Bcl-XL expression correlated with patients＇ gender and tumor cell proliferation index （P= 0.037 and P〈0.001, respectively）, but was independent of clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival. CONCLUSION： We report a novel tissue lysis method applicable to proteomic and immunoblot analyses, which can facilitate the discovery and detection of cancer protein alterations.

Preparation and Ethanol Sensing Properties of ZnO Nanofibers

ZnO nanofibers with an average diameter of about 90 nm were prepared by an electrospinning method combined with a calcination process. The as-electrospun nanofibers before and after calcination were characterized by means of differential thermal analysis（DTA）, thermal gravimetric analysis（TGA）, X-ray diffraction（XRD） and scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. The fibers after calcination at 600 °C belong to the hexagonal wurtzite structure. The sensor based on ZnO nanofibers exhibited excellent ethanol sensing properties at 206 °C such as good linear dependence in the low concentration（1―100 μL/L）, high response, and good selectivity. Fast response（less than 2 s） and recovery（about 16 s） were also observed in our investigations.
