Establishment of an acute extraocular muscle injury model in cats

AIM： To describe an acute extraocular muscle injury model in cats. METHODS： Seventy-two cats were randomly divided into 6 groups（12 cats per group）. Cats＇ left lateral recti were clamped using a surgical needle holder with a clamping strength of 2（Groups A and D）, 4（Groups B and E） and 6 kg（Groups C and F）. The right lateral recti were treated as controls. On the 4^（th） and 7^（th） days, hematoxylin eosin（HE） staining, immunohistochemical staining for proliferating cell nuclear antigen（PCNA）, muscle force measurements and ocular alignment changes were performed to evaluate the extent of injuries. RESULTS： The morphological changes were graded as mild, moderate or severe by HE staining in all experiment groups. PCNA immunohistochemical staining indicated repairment of muscle fibers in the damaged area. On the 4^（th） and 7^（th） days after clamping, the injured lateral muscle exhibited an elevated threshold for electric stimulation. The muscle forces among groups 2, 4 and 6 kg injury at 4 d（Groups A, B and C） were statistically significant（P0.05）, respectively. In addition, medial deviation in ocular alignment was also present to various degrees in all groups. CONCLUSION： A cat model of acute extraocular muscle injury can be established by rectus clamping. Different clamping strengths can make different degrees of muscle injury. This model may help the future study in the acute extraocular muscle injury.

AIM： To investigate the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer （GC） in Zhuanghe region, northeast China and the influencing factors for their changing trends.METHODS： All new cancer cases and deaths registered from 2005 to 2010 in Zhuanghe County were reviewed. The annual GC cases, constituent ratio, crude rates,age-standardized rates, their sex and age distribution and temporal trends were assessed. The method of annual percentage change （APC） was used to estimate the trends of GC.RESULTS： Altogether 2634 new cases of GC and 1722 related deaths were registered, which accounted for 21.04% and 19.13% of all cancer-related incidence and deaths, respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate steadily decreased from 57.48 in 2005 to 44.53 in 2010 per 10^5 males, and from 18.13 to 14.70 per 10s females, resulting in a APC of -5.81% for males and -2.89% for females over the entire period. The magnitude of APC in GC mortality amounted to -11.09% and -15.23%, respectively, as the agestandardized mortality rate steadily decreased from 42.08 in 2005 to 23.71 in 2010 per 10^5 males, and from 23.86 to 10.78 per 10^5 females. Females had a significantly lower incidence （a male/female ratio 2.80, P 〈 0.001） and mortality （a male/female ratio 2.30, P 〈 0.001）. In both genders, the peak incidence and mortality occurred in the 80-84 years age group. The age-standardized mortality/incidence ratio also decreased from the peak of 0.73 in 2005 to 0.53 in 2010 for males, and from 1.32 to 0.73 for females.CONCLUSION： Encouraging declines of incidence and mortality of GC were observed in Zhuanghe region between 2005 and 2010, possibly due to the economic development and efficient GC control strategies.

Congenital aortic arch anomalies occur most commonly in children. The disease can be classified into three types： ① obstructive congenital abnormalities, including coarctation of aorta （CoA） and interruption of aortic arch （IAA）; ② nonobstructive congenital abnormalities, including double aortic arch and others; ③ congenital shunt abnormalities, including different types of patent ductus arteriosus （PDA）. Management of patients with congenital aortic arch anomalies relies on imaging. Routine imaging modalities, such as conventional X-ray plain film and transthoracic echocardiography （TTE）, have been recently complemented by magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）.

A Cooperative Schema between Web Sever and Search Engine for Improving Freshness of Web Repository

Because the web is huge and web pages are updated frequently, the index maintained by a search engine has to refresh web pages periodically. This is extremely resource consuming because the search engine needs to crawl the web and download web pages to refresh its index, Based on present technologies of web refreshing, we present a cooperative schema between web server and search engine for maintaining freshness of web repository. The web server provides metadata defined through XML standard to describe web sites. Before updating the web page the crawler visits the meta-data files. If the meta-data indicates that the page is not modified, then the crawler will not update it. So this schema can save bandwidth resource. A primitive model based on the schema is implemented. The cost and efficiency of the schema are analyzed.

AIM To evaluate the advantages of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) in the assessment of detailed structures of pancreatic cystic neoplasms(PCNs) compared to computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).METHODS All patients with indeterminate PCNs underwent CT, MRI, and EUS. The detailed information, including size, number, the presence of a papilla/nodule, the presence of a septum, and the morphology of the pancreatic duct of PCNs were compared among the three imaging modalities. The size of each PCN was determined using the largest diameter measured. A cyst consisting of several small cysts was referred to as a motherdaughter cyst. Disagreement among the three imaging modalities regarding the total number of mother cysts resulted in the assumption that the correct number was the one in which the majority of imaging modalities *** A total of 52 females and 16 males were evaluated. The median size of the cysts was 42.5 mm by EUS, 42.0 mm by CT and 38.0 mm by MRI; there was no significant difference in size as assessed among the three imaging techniques. The diagnostic sensitivity and ability of EUS to classify PCNs were 98.5%(67/68) and 92.6%(63/68), respectively. These percentages were higher than those of CT(73.1%, P lizing the pancreatic duct using EUS was 100%, whereas using CT and MRI it was less than 10%.CONCLUSION EUS helps visualize

Background:Allogeneic natural killer(NK)cell immunotherapy is recognized as a promising anti-tumor strategy,but whether it plays a role in poor CD4 recovery among human immunodeficiency virus type 1(HIV-1)infected patients is *** study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of allogeneic NK cells immunotherapy on HIV-1 immunological non-responders(INRs)receiving antiretroviral therapy(ART).Methods:From February to April 2018,a prospective,randomized,controlled,open-label clinical trial,which enrolled 20 HIV-1 INRs following specific inclusion criteria,was conducted at Nankai University Second People’s *** were randomly allocated(simple randomization 1:1)to either the combined treatment(NK+ART)group(n=10)or the control(ART)group(n=10).The allogenic highly activated NK cells from killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor(KIR)/human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-Cw mismatched healthy donor were prepared(108 cells in each injection)and intravenously infused to each recruited patient of NK+ART group in three *** immune parameters(CD4 count,CD8 count,CD4/CD8 ratio),laboratory tests(count of blood cells,biochemistry panel)and symptoms at baseline and at month 1,3,6,9,12,and 24 were measured/collected to analyze the safety and efficacy of the *** were between the seven time-points of both groups using repeated measurement analysis of variance(ANOVA)*** estimating equations(GEE)model was performed to evaluate the overall effect of the NK+ART group *** ART ***:From baseline to 24 months,we noted a mean CD4 count augmentation(139 to 243 cells/μL)in the NK+ART group and(144 to 176 cells/μL)in the ART group(difference,67;95%CI,10 to 124;P=0.024).Our estimations revealed that NK+ART group could improve CD4 level(β=54.59,P=0.006)and CD8 level(β=322.47,P=0.010)on average among the six measurements compared with the ART *** two(2/10,20%)participants in the NK+ART group developed a transient mild f
