Differential expression of miRNAs and mRNAs in the livers of largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides under heat stress

Global warming threatens freshwater ecosystems and compromises fish survival.To elucidate the role of miRNAs in the livers of heat stressed largemouth bass,juvenile fish was subject to heat stress under 37°C.Both mRNA-seq and miRNA-seq were conducted on the liver tissues under control and heat stress conditions.Differential gene expression analysis and enrichment analysis were performed on mRNA and miRNA expression profiles.A total of 406 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were discovered,of which 212 were up-regulated and 194 were down-regulated.Most of the DEGs were significantly implicated in the regulation of“protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum”,“proteasome”,“steroid biosynthesis”,and“ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor activity”pathways.In addition,47 differentially expressed miRNAs(DEMs)were identified in largemouth bass livers under heat stress,including 21 up-regulated and 25 down-regulated miRNAs.A negatively regulated miRNA-mRNA network including 12 miRNAs and 19 mRNAs was constructed with DEMs involved in“protein degradation”,“calcium ion regulation”,“cell apoptosis”,and“lipid metabolism”.Moreover,this study indicated novel-miR-144 activated the IRE1 signaling pathway by targeting txndc5 to induce liver apoptosis in largemouth bass under heat stress.This study revealed the involvement of miRNA regulation in largemouth bass in response to heat stress.

The complex and volatile international landscape has significantly impacted global grain supply security. This study uses a complex network analysis model to examine the evolution and trends of the global major grain trade from 1990 to 2020, focusing on network topology, centrality ranking, and community structure. There are three major findings. First, the global major grain trade network has expanded in scale, with a growing emphasis on diversification and balance. During the study period, the United States, Canada, China, and Brazil were the core nodes of the network. Grain-exporting countries were mainly situated in Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and importing countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Second, a significant increase in the number of high centrality countries with high export capacity occurred, benefiting from natural advantages such as fertile land and favorable climates. Third, the main global grain trade network is divided into four communities, with the Americas-Europe community being the largest and most widespread. The formation of the community pattern was influenced by geographic proximity, driven by the core exporting countries. Therefore, the world needs to enhance the existing trade model, promote the multi-polarization of the grain trade network, and establish a global vision for the future community. Countries and regions should participate actively in global grain trade security governance and institutional reform, expand trade links with other countries, and optimize import and export policies to reduce trade risks.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of external application of Chinese herbal medicine(exCHM)for psoriasis vulgaris(PV).METHODS:Different search portals,including the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database,China Science and Technology Journal Database,Wanfang,Sino Med,clinicaltrials,Pub Med,Cochrane library,and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,were searched for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)that compared the ex-CHM intervention with other treatment protocols for PV,with available data as of November 25,2020.The Review Manager 5.3 software was used for analysis.RESULTS:Nineteen RCTs involving 1988 participants were included,of which twelve RCTs qualified for the Meta-analysis.The results showed that the addition of CHM bath to narrow-band ultraviolet B(NB-UVB)had a higher response rate[RR=1.29;95%CI(1.19,1.40);Plity of life better than phototherapy.CHM fumigation could improve the efficacy of calcipotriol ointment and reduce the adverse reactions.CHM fumigation combined with external washing plus acitretin showed better results than using acitretin alone.No statistical difference was observed between CHM external washing and calcipotriol ointment or CHM ointment and retinoic acids.CONCLUSIONS:Current evidence showed that CHM bath and fumigation appeared to be efficient and safe for PV treatment.However,no definite conclusion could be drawn due to the low quality of included studies and thus more well-designed studies are needed for further assessment.

Modified Xiaoyao powder for postpartum depression:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of modified Xiaoyao powder for postpartum depression(PPD)by conducting a systematic review of randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Methods:The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Databases(CNKI),the Chinese Scientific Journals Database(VIP),Wanfang,Google Scholar,the SinoMed,Embase,Cochrane library,and PubMed databases were searched from their inception to April 25,2023.The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was used to assess the quality of the trials.We applied the risk ratio to present dichotomous data and the mean difference to present continuous data.Data with similar characteristics were pooled for meta-analysis and heterogeneity was assessed using I2.Results:This review included 35 trials involving 2848 participants.The quality of the included studies was low(unclear randomization processes and insufficient reporting of blinding).Participants treated with modified Xiaoyao powder plus Western medicine showed lower Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)depression score than those who used Western medicine alone(mean difference=-2.15;95%confidence interval:-2.52 to 1.78;Plieve depression in PPD when used alone or in combination with Western medicine,with minor side effects.Therefore,future high-quality,large-sample size RCTs are warranted.

Spatial-temporal Evolution Characteristics and Decoupling Analysis of Influencing Factors of China’s Aviation Carbon Emissions

The aviation industry has become one of the top ten greenhouse gas emission industries in the world. China’s aviation carbon emissions continue to increase, but the analysis of its influencing factors at the provincial level is still incomplete. This paper firstly uses Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology model(STIRPAT) model to analyze the time series evolution of China’s aviation carbon emissions from 2000 to 2019. Secondly, it uses the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index(LDMI) model to analyze the influencing characteristics and degree of four factors on China’s aviation carbon emissions, which are air transportation revenue, aviation route structure, air transportation intensity and aviation energy intensity. Thirdly, it determines the various factors’ influencing direction and evolution trend of 31 provinces’ aviation carbon emissions in China(not including Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan of China due to incomplete data). Finally, it derives the decoupling effort model and analyzes the decoupling relationship and decoupling effort degree between air carbon emissions and air transportation revenue in different provinces. The study found that from 2000 to2019, China’s total aviation carbon emissions continued to grow, while the growth rate of aviation carbon emissions showed a fluctuating downward trend. Air transportation revenue and aviation route structure promote the growth of total aviation carbon emissions, and air transportation intensity and aviation energy intensity have a restraining effect on the growth of total aviation carbon emissions. The scope of negative driving effect of air transportation revenue and air transportation intensity on total aviation carbon emissions in various provinces has increased. While the scope of positive driving influence of aviation route structure on total aviation carbon emissions of various provinces has increased, aviation energy intensity mainly has negative driving influence on total aviation carbon emissions of each province. Hybrid rice(Oryza sativa)generally outperforms its inbred parents in yield and stress tolerance,a phenomenon termed heterosis,but the underlying mechanism is not completely understood.Here,we combined transcriptome,proteome,physiological,and heterosis analyses to examine the salt response of super hybrid rice Chaoyou1000(CY1000).In addition to surpassing the mean values for its two parents(mid-parent heterosis),CY1000 exhibited a higher reactive oxygen species scavenging ability than both its parents(over-parent heterosis or heterobeltiosis).Nonadditive expression and allele-specific gene expression assays showed that the glutathione S-transferase gene OsGSTU26 and the amino acid transporter gene OsAAT30 may have major roles in heterosis for salt tolerance,acting in an overdominant fashion in CY1000.Furthermore,we identified OsWRKY72 as a common transcription factor that binds and regulates OsGSTU26 and OsAAT30.The salt-sensitive phenotypes were associated with the OsWRKY72^(paternal)genotype or the OsAAT30^(maternal)genotype in core rice germplasm varieties.OsWRKY72^(paternal)specifically repressed the expression of OsGSTU26 under salt stress,leading to salinity sensitivity,while OsWRKY72^(maternal)specifically repressed OsAAT30,resulting in salinity tolerance.These results suggest that the OsWRKY72-OsAAT30/OsGSTU26 module may play an important role in heterosis for salt tolerance in an overdominant fashion in CY1000 hybrid rice,providing valuable clues to elucidate the mechanism of heterosis for salinity tolerance in hybrid rice.

In situ Synthesis of Ultrasmall Au Clusters on Thiol-modified CeO_(2) with Enhanced Stability and CO Oxidation Activity

Gold(Au)nanoclusters supported on various supports have been widely used in the fields of energy and catalysis.However,the poor thermal stability of Au nanoclusters on the support interface usually leads to a reduction or even loss of catalytic activity.Herein,we used an in situ reduction method to synthesize Au nanoclusters on ceria(CeO_(2))carriers.In this method,sulfhydryl groups were used to modify CeO_(2) nanospheres first,and then Au clusters with an average diameter of 1.5 nm were grown on the surface of ceria reduced with sodium borohydride.The presence of the Au-S-Ce structure enhances the electron transfer efficiency,making the material exhibit high CO oxidation activity at room temperature.Furthermore,due to the strong binding energy of S and Au,the material exhibits a high stability for long time running process.This strategy provides an idea for designing stable and active supported ultrasmall Au nanoclusters catalytic materials.

20世纪30年代,方言电影迅速发展起来,有关方言电影的废存论争也翩然而至。1933年,南京国民政府中央电影检查会从“统一国语”立场出发,将方言电影定为“非法电影”,要求取缔。这一禁令1936年开始在华南地区执行。为了维护方言电影的合法身份,1936—1937年间,中国香港电影人发起了电影中的语言的讨论,力证方言并不影响电影民族话语的表达,方言电影也属于“国片”。中国香港电影人对电影中的语言问题的论述显然沿着民族主义的逻辑展开,但受制于殖民地的文化地缘,他们对民族国家的理解与内地主流话语并不相同。这次讨论昭示了中国香港电影人在“家国之外”寻求“国族认同”的微妙处境。

Inulin alleviates HFD-induced NAFLD by hepatic macrophage polarization and lipid metabolism via gut-liver axis

Long-term intake of high-fat diet (HFD) leads to systemic hypo-inflammation， which is involved in the pathogenesis of many liver diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the interventional effect of inulin addition on HFD-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here， we assessed liver inflammation and lipid metabolism by EliSA kits and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)， and explored its relationship with intestinal flora and metabolites by 16S rDNA gene sequencing and untargeted metabolomics. In addition， we determined the effect of the inositol-requiring enzyme-1α (IRE1α-XBP1) pathway on liver macrophage polarization by flow cytometry. In conclusion， our study has demonstrated that inulin ameliorates high levels of bile acids and colonic immune disorders induced by HFD， and improves hepatic macrophage polarization and hepatic lipid metabolism via the intestine-hepatic axis， thus providing a mechanistic basis for therapeutic approaches to modulate bile acids to improve colonic inflammation and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
