The organ-specific toxicity resulting from microplastic(MP)exposure has been extensively explored,particularly concerning the gut,liver,testis,and ***,under natural conditions,these effects are not restricted to specific organs or *** whether MP exposure presents a systemic threat to an entire organism,impacting factors such as lifespan,sleep,and fecundity,is *** this study,we investigated the effects of dietary exposure to two different doses of MPs(1–5μm)using the terrestrial model organism Drosophila *** indicated that the particles caused gut damage and remained within the digestive *** MP exposure significantly shortened the lifespan of adult *** short-term exposure disrupted sleep patterns,increasing the length of daytime sleep ***,one week of MP exposure reduced ovary size,with a trend towards decreased egg-laying in mated *** MPs did not penetrate the brain or ovaries,transcriptome analysis revealed altered gene expression in these *** the ovary,Gene Ontology(GO)analysis indicated genotoxic effects impacting inflammation,circadian regulation,and metabolic processes,with significant impacts on extracellular structure-related *** the brain,GO analysis identified changes in pathways associated with proteolysis and carbohydrate ***,this study provides compelling evidence of the systemic negative effects of MP exposure,highlighting the urgent need to address and mitigate environmental MP pollution.

A weak but inert hindered urethane bond for high-performance dynamic polyurethane polymers

Covalent adaptable networks(CANs),which share the properties of both thermosets and thermoplastics at the same time,are desirable for many *** bulky substituents is a feasible way to design dynamic covalent bonds for constructing CANs,as evidenced by the successful implementation in CANs based on hindered urea bonds(HUBs).However,the dynamicity induced by introducing bulky substituents always come with low bond energy,resulting in low mechanical strength and poor stability of the ***,we designed a novel hindered urethane bond,which is weak in thermodynamic(K_(eq)=1701.23 L/mol at 25℃)and inert in kinetic at low temperature,but stable in thermodynamic(K_(eq)=1.54×10^(4) L/mol at 100℃)and active in kinetic at high temperature(k_(-1)=0.105 h^(-1) at 80℃ and 0.315 h^(-1) at 120℃).As a result,the polyurethane based on it exhibits high mechanical properties(with youngs’modulus of 1011±29MPa and flexible modulus reached 1833±50MPa)and excellent reversibility(can be reprocessed at 60℃ under 100 kPa in 30 min and completely healed at 40℃ in 10 min).Moreover,unlike to many CANs based on hindered urea bonds,our dynamic polyurethanes are highly stable in humid environment or even water solutions due to the slow hydrolysis *** highperformance dynamic polyurethane polymers are attractive for many applications.

Zeolite-encaged gold catalysts for the oxidative condensation of furfural

The oxidative condensation between renewable furfural and fatty alcohols is a crucial avenue for producing high-quality liquid fuels and valuable furan derivatives. The selectivity control in this reaction process remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report the strategy of confining well dispersed gold species within ZSM-5 structure to construct highly active Au@ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts for the oxidative condensation of furfural. Characterization results and spectroscopy analyses demonstrate the efficient encapsulation of isolated and cationic Au clusters in zeolite structure. Au@ZSM-5(K) catalyst shows remarkable performance with 69.7% furfural conversion and 90.2% furan-2-acrolein selectivity as well as good recycle stability. It is revealed that the microstructure of ZSM-5 zeolite can significantly promote oxidative condensation activity through confinement effects. This work presents an explicit example of constructing zeolite encaged noble metal catalysts toward targeted chemical transformations.

Photocaged activity-based probes for improved monitoring of protein S-sulfenylation in living cells

Protein S-sulfenylation(protein sulfenic acid),as one of the most significant oxidative post-translational modifications(OxiPTMs),plays a vital role in regulating protein function.A variety of activity-based probes have been developed to profile sulfenic acid in living ***,due to the transient presence and low content of sulfenic acid in living cell,high doses of probes are needed to achieve efficient *** importantly,current probes have no temporal control over sulfenic acid *** overcome these limitations,two caged cysteine sulfenic acid probes DYn-2-ONB and DYn-2-Cou with either an o-nitrobenzyl or coumarin protecting group were developed in this *** probes can be efficiently uncaged via irradiation to produce the active C-nucleophile probe *** assay in living cells demonstrated DYn-2-ONB exhibited better labeling capacity compared with DYn-2,providing it as a powerful tool for improved monitoring of protein S-sulfenylation in living cells.

Mn-modified nitrogen-doped Pt-based electrocatalyst for efficient oxygen reduction in aluminum-air batteries

In this study,a Mn-modified Pt-based catalyst loaded on nitrogen-doped ketjen black(Mn-Pt/NKB)is prepared using a simple ethylene glycol reduction *** size of Pt nanoparticles(NPs)is effectively controlled by doping with Mn and *** the smallest average particle size of 1.7 nm,Mn-Pt/NKB demonstrates half-wave potentials of 0.890 and 0.688 V in the alkaline and neutral electrolytes,respectively,which are superior to those of commercial platinum on activated carbon(Pt/C).When applied as an air cathode in aluminum-air battery,it exhibits ultra-high power densities of 190(alkaline)and 26.2 mW·cm^(−2)(neutral).Moreover,the voltage remains stable after 5 h of *** practical application performance of the Mn-Pt/NKB catalyst in an aluminum-air battery is better than that of commercial Pt/***,the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)mechanism on surfaces with different particle sizes is analyzed using density functional *** cracking is the major pathway on the surface of the small particles with lower energy consumption of 0.5 eV,while water molecule cleavage is the major pathway on the surface of the large particles with higher energy consumption of 0.97 *** lower energy consumption of the oxygen cracking pathway further confirms the ORR mechanism for higher activity on small-sized *** study provides a direction for the rational design of Pt-based catalysts for ORR and sheds light on the commercial development of aluminum-air batteries.

Ti-based catalysts are known to improve the hydrogen storage performance of NaAlH4by facilitating the dissociation/recombination of H-H and Al-H *** catalytic activity of metallic Ti species strongly depends on its particle size and *** clusters and even single atoms are therefore highly desirable,but their controllable fabrication has been highly *** rein,we demonstrate a novel facile sonochemical synthesis of a Ti-O clusters featuring single Ti atom catalyst at room *** reducing TiCl_(4)by MgBu_(2)with ultrasound instead of heating as driving force,numerous single Ti atoms coupled with Ti-O clusters with Ti loading on graphene(Ti_(1)/Ti-O@G)up to 22.6 wt%have been successfully *** prepared Ti_(1)/Ti-O@G contributes high reactivity and superior catalytic activity,therefore enabling full dehydrogenation of NaAlH_(4)at 80℃in thermogravimetric mode and re-hydrogenation at 30℃and 10 MPa with 4.9 wt% H_(2).This fact indicates for the first time that single Ti atom catalyst with high loading is highly effective in catalyzing hydrogen cycling of NaAlH4at remarkably reduced temperatures.
