In halophytic plants, the high-affinity potassium transporter HKT gene family can selectively uptake K＋ in the presence of toxic concentrations of Na＋. This has so far not been well examined in glycophytic crops. Here, we report the characterization of SbHKTI;4, a member of the HKT gene family from Sorghum bicolor. Upon Na＋ stress, SbHKT1;4 expression was more strongly upregulated in salt-tolerant sorghum accession, correlating with a better balanced Na＋/ K＋ ratio and enhanced plant growth. Heterogeneous expression analyses in mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Arabidopsis thaliana indicated that overexpressing SbHKT1;4 resulted in hypersensitivity to Na＋ stress, and such hypersensitivity could be alleviated with the supply of elevated levels of K＋, implicating that SbHKT1;4 may mediate K＋ uptake in the presence of excessive Na＋. Further electrophysiological evidence demonstrated that SbHKT1;4 could transport Na＋ and K＋ when expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes. The relevance of the finding that SbHKTI;4 functions to maintain optimal Na＋/K＋ balance under Na＋ stress to the breeding of salt-tolerant glycophytic crops is discussed.

Morphology-controlled electrocatalysts with the ability of CO_(2) adsorption/activation, mass transfer, high stability and porosity are much desired in electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction (CO_(2)RR). Here, three kinds of multi-dimensional nanostructures (i.e., hollow sphere, nanosheets and nanofibers) have been successfully produced through the modulation of porphyrin-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with various modulators. The obtained nanostructures with high-stability, large surface-area, and single metal sites enable efficient CO_(2)RR into CH_(4). Notably, they all exhibit higher FE (hollow sphere, 68.2%;nanosheet, 64.2% and nanofiber, 71.0%, -0.9 V) than COF-366-Cu (43.0%, -0.9 V) after morphology control. Noteworthy, the FE of COF-366-Cu (HS) keeps higher than 52.4% over a wide potential range from -0.9 V to -1.1 V and the achieved FECH_(4) + C_(2)H_(4) (82.8%, -0.9 V) is superior to most of reported COFs and copper-based electrocatalysts. This work paves a new way in the exploration of COF-based multi-dimensional nanostructures applicable in efficient CO_(2)RR to CH_(4).

In this paper, a Q-band CMOS low noise amplifier(LNA) exploiting transformer positive-negative feedback and noise cancelling is presented. The proposed low noise amplifier consists of a positive transformer feedback to achieve noise-reduction and a negative transformer feedback to obtain high reverse isolation and stability. The noise cancellation technique is applied in this LNA to achieve a low noise figure. This LNA has been fabricated by standard commercial 90 nm CMOS. According to measurements, this proposed LNA achieves a peak gain of 11.5 d B, a noise figure of 6.5 d B and an input P1 d B of-12 d Bm. It consumes 11.5 m A from a1.2 V supply occupying the area of 0.6×0.7 mm2.

Objective To review the in vitro development of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells culture （BM-MSC）.Data sources The data cited in this review were mainly obtained from articles listed in Medline and PubMed. The search terms were “bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell” and “cell culture”.Study selection Articles regarding the in vitro development of BM-MSCs culture, as well as the challenge of optimizing cell culture environment in two-dimensional （2D） vs. 3D.Results Improving the culture conditions increases the proliferation and reduces the differentiation. Optimal values for many culture parameters remain to be identified. Expansion of BM-MSCs under defined conditions remains challenging, including the development of optimal culture conditions for BMSC and large-volume production systems.Conclusions Expansion of BM-MSCs under defined conditions remains challenges, including the development of optimal culture conditions for BMSC and scale-up to large-volume production systems. Optimal values for many culture parameters remain to be identified.

Senescence-related decline in liver function is a common complication in the elderly that can lead to impaired health in older *** nitrate supplements have physiological and therapeutic effects on organ function by nitrate(NO_3^-)-nitrite(NO_2^-)-nitric oxide(NO)***,the role of dietary nitrate on the senescence-related decline in liver function is *** findings of the present study showed that nitrate levels in the serum and liver decreased,whereas the levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in serum increased in ageing ***,cell senescence,decreased glycogen levels and increased lipid deposition were found in the liver of aged mice,both glucokinase(GCK)and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase(PCK)were down-regulated(n=10).Daily nitrate intake(0.5 mmol L^(-1))restored nitrate levels,decreased ALT and AST levels,and prevented cell senescence and structural and glucose and lipid metabolism degeneration in liver tissue both in D-galactose(D-gal)-induced ageing mice(n=10)and in natural aged mice(n=10).In conclusion,the present study demonstrated that the reduction of nitrate levels was correlated with liver degeneration in ageing individuals and that dietary supplement of nitrate could restore the nitrate levels in serum and the liver and prevent ageing-related liver degeneration.

AIM: To compare the efficacy of hepatic resection(HR) and transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) for patients with solitary huge(≥ 10 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: Records were retrospectively analyzed of 247 patients with solitary huge HCC, comprising 180 treated by HR and 67 by TACE. Long-term overall survival(OS) was compared between the two groups using the Kaplan-Meier method, and independent predictors of survival were identified by multivariate analysis. These analyses were performed using all patients in both groups and/or 61 pairs of propensity score-matched patients from the two groups. RESULTS: OS at 5 years was significantly higher in the HR group than the TACE group, across all patients(P = 0.002) and across propensity score-matchedpairs(36.4% vs 18.2%, P = 0.039). The two groups showed similar postoperative mortality and morbidity. Multivariate analysis identified alpha-fetoprotein ≥ 400 ng/m L, presence of vascular invasion and TACE treatment as independent predictors of poor ***: Our findings suggest that HR can be safe and more effective than TACE for patients with solitary huge HCC.

Background One effect of solid tumors is severe hypoxia of local tissues. Heme oxygenase-1 （HO-1） is highly expressed in a variety of human tumor tissues; its induction and activity are closely related to growth of solid tumors. Hypoxia inducible factor-1 （HIF-1） is a transcription factor that regulates hypoxia signal transduction and plays a central role in tumor hypoxia regulation. However, whether and how changes in HO-1 activity affect HIF-1 gene expression has not been reported previously. Methods Hypoxia-inducible models were established using gastric cancer cell lines （SGC-7901） in a hypoxia incubator. Cells were placed in four groups： Group A, transfected by plasmid harboring HO-1 shRNA; Group B, transfected with scrambled shRNA vector; Group C, treated with hemin; and Group D, exposed to hypoxia only. Expressions of HO-1 and HIF-1 mRNAs were quantified by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Expressions of HO-1 and HIF-1 proteins were determined by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Results mRNA and protein levels of HO-1 and HIF-1 in the control group were significantly higher than in Group A （P 〈0.01）, but lower than in Group C （P〈0.01）. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis showed that HIF-1 was identified as the direct HO-1 target gene. Conclusion While affected by HIF-1, HO-1 up-regulation promotes the expression of HIF-1 and the down-regulation of HO-1 suppresses the expression of HIF-1 gene.
