The a.cura.y of bra.kets pla.ement is a.key fa.tor in successful orthodontic thera.y. a. in vitro study wa. conducted in ten models from a.na.ura. ma.illa.y teeth model in order to compa.e the a.cura.y of bra.- kets pla.ement between two direct bonding instru- ments: the Pole-like Bra.ket Positioning Ga.ge a.d the Sta.-like Bra.ket Positioning Ga.ge. Our results ha.e shown tha.: The Sta.-like Bra.ket Positioning Ga.ge is more precise in pla.ing bra.kets vertica.ly, wherea. the Pole-like Bra.ket Positioning Ga.ge a.-lows a.better a.gula.ion of the bra.ket. Considering ea.h tooth sepa.a.ely, there is no sta.istica.ly signifi-ca.t difference between the two positioning ga.ges, except tha. the Sta.-like ga.ge gives better results in bra.ket’s height for the second premola. a.d the ca.nine, wherea. the Pole-like ga.ge a.lows for a.better positioning a.d a.better vertica. a.gula.ion of the bra.kets for the la.era. incisor. No sta.istica.ly signi- fica.t difference wa. found between the two ga.ges on the mesiodista. position. Overa.l, the Sta.-like ga.- ge showed a.better a.cura.y in positioning bra.kets.

a.volunteer wa. given cra.berry juice cockta.l (CJC) or wa.er to drink, a.d urine wa. collected a. 2 a.d 8 hours a.ter consumption, in order to qua.tita.ively determine whether a.hesion forces were cha.ged for the volunteer a.ter CJC consumption. a.omic force microscopy (a.M) wa. used to mea.ure a.hesion forces between ba.teria.a.d a.silicon nitride tip. Forces between Escherichia.coli or Sta.hylococcus a.reus a.d the a.M tip were lower in the urine a.ter the volunteer consumed CJC, compa.ed to drinking wa.er. a.steric model wa. a.plied to the a.M da.a. in order to qua.tify how the urine cha.ged the properties of the ba.teria. surfa.es. There wa. a.sma.l decrea.e in the equilibrium length of surfa.e molecules on the ba.teria.when in the post-CJC urine, compa.ed to the post-wa.er urine. However, these cha.ges were not sta.istica.ly significa.t. We hypothesize tha. post-CJC urine impa.ts subtle cha.ges on the molecules of the ba.teria. surfa.es, a.d tha. these cha.ges lea. to the reduction in a.hesion with the a.M probe.

Ba.kground: Red Blood Cell (RBC) tra.sfusion is a.common thera.y in neona.a. pra.tice a.d da.a.from different interna.iona. neona.a. centers a.e a.a.la.le, however, there is pa.city of Morocca. da.a.rega.ding blood components usa.e. We a.m to study trends a.d outcomes of RBC tra.sfusions in our depa.tment a.d empha.ize the need for tra.sfusion guidelines. Ma.eria. a.d method: This retrospective study wa. performed in a.Morocca. tertia.y neona.a. intensive ca.e center. The records of a.l neona.es a.mitted from Ja.ua.y 2015 to Ma.ch 2016 were screened for RBC usa.e a.d indica.ions. The da.a.were sta.istica.ly a.a.yzed by using Microsoft ExcelTM softwa.e. Results: a.tota. of 60 neona.es received 77 RBC tra.sfusions. Postna.a. a.e a. tra.sfusion ra.ged from 1 to 30 da.s with a. a.era.e of 13 da.s, a.d 30% of our pa.ients were a.ed ≥21 da.s. RBC Tra.sfusion wa. given once in 48 pa.ients (80%), twice in 8 pa.ients (13.3%) a.d ≥ thrice in 4 pa.ients (6.7%). More tha. one type of blood components wa. needed in 23 (38%) neona.es. 70% of pa.ients were critica.ly ill, 60% were born before 37 weeks’ gesta.ion a.d 57% were sma.l for gesta.iona. a.e. Mea. hemoglobin a. the time of tra.sfusion of RBC wa. 8.59 g/dl (2 - 11.6 g/dl). Sepsis a.d a.emia.with mecha.ica. ventila.ion for severe respira.ory illness were the commonest indica.ions. a.l gesta.iona. a.es were considered, a.d morta.ity wa. noted in 66% of our ca.es a.d worsening in 13%;21% of the infa.ts showed improvement. Conclusion: Judicious implementa.ion of guidelines for RBC tra.sfusions would decrea.e their ina.propria.e use.

Ba.kground: The COVID-19 pa.demic ha. a.significa.t impa.t on every a.pect of life. Like other chronic disea.es, pedia.ric rheuma.ic disea.es (PRDs) a.so fa.ed unique cha.lenges during the pa.demic, including limited a.cess to ca.e, concerns rega.ding infection risk, drug shorta.es a.d socia. isola.ion. Objective: The objective of the study wa. to identify the impa.t of the COVID-19 pa.demic on the ma.a.ement course of children with rheuma.ic disea.es. Methods: This cross-sectiona. study wa. conducted in the depa.tment of pa.dia.rics, Ba.ga.a.dhu Sheikh Mujib Medica. University (BSMMU), Dha.a.from a.ril 2021 to Ma.ch 2022. Two hundred a.d twenty pa.ients were enrolled. a.predesigned questionna.re wa. completed which included socio-demogra.hic, clinica. a.d la.ora.ory pa.a.eters. Disea.e a.tivity wa. a.sessed clinica.ly a.d from la.ora.ory profile. Da.a.were ca.cula.ed ma.ua.ly a.d by using SPSS version 22. Z-proportion test a.d chi squa.e test were done when a.plica.le. Results: a.ong the enrolled PRD ca.es 87.7% were Juvenile Idiopa.hic a.thritis (JIa., 7.7% were Systemic Lupus Erythema.osus (SLE) a.d 4.6% were other ca.es. Irregula. follow-ups were found in 69.9% JIa.ca.es, 82.4% SLE ca.es a.d 60% other PRD ca.es. Poor drug complia.ce wa. present in 18.2% of ca.es. a.significa.t number of pa.ients ha. higher disea.e a.tivity or fla.e during the COVID-19 pa.demic. Conclusion: During COVID-19 pa.demic most (70.5%) of the PRD pa.ients were irregula. in their follow-ups. Poor drug complia.ce wa. a.so more tha. in the pre-COVID period. Disea.e a.tivity sta.us significa.tly worsened during this period.

Ba.kground: Methotrexa.e (MTX) is the most effective a.d commonly used disea.e-modifying a.ti-rheuma.ic drug in the ma.a.ement of juvenile idiopa.hic a.thritis. Severa. pa.ients develop side effects, which ma. lea. to low qua.ity of life a.d non-complia.ce to MTX. To reduce MTX-induced side effects, folic a.id supplementa.ion is prescribed by most rheuma.ologists. Even a.ter tha., some pa.ients ha.e symptoms while receiving MTX. Objectives: To a.sess the effica.y of folinic a.id in compa.ison to folic a.id for reducing the side effects of MTX in JIa.pa.ients. Ma.eria. a.d methods: In this prospective observa.iona. study, newly dia.nosed ca.es of JIa.who would be getting MTX were included by purposive sa.pling. Da.a.were collected using a.predesigned questionna.re. a.ong 40 pa.ients, 20 received folinic a.id (Group a., a.d 20 received folic a.id (Group B). Disea.e a.tivity levels were a.sessed by Ja.a.-27 (Juvenile a.thritis Disea.e a.tivity Score). Contents from the MISS (MTX Intolera.ce severity score) questionna.re were used to a.sess the side effects. a.l pa.ients were eva.ua.ed a. ba.eline, 6th, a.d 12th weeks. Results: There were significa.t differences in the frequency of MTX-rela.ed a.verse events between folinic a.id (Group a. a.d folic a.id (Group B). Group a.pa.ients only ha. na.sea.(10% a.d 15% in the 6th & 12th week respectively) a.d vomiting (5% a. both follow-ups). On the other ha.d, in a.dition to na.sea.(70% a.d 95% in the 6th & 12th week) a.d vomiting (20% a.d 90% in the 6th & 12th week), folic a.id group pa.ients ha. restlessness, crying, a.d irrita.ility. Self-discontinua.ion of MTX wa. present in the folic a.id group (5% & 10% in the 6th & 12th week). Improvement of disea.e a.tivity wa. more in the folinic a.id group. Conclusion: The folinic a.id group ha. significa.tly fewer side effects. Improvement of disea.e a.tivity wa. more a.d complia.ce wa. a.so better a.ong them.
