The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of physical and chemical factors on transport and use of substrate for Atta sexdens rubropilosa workers. Three types of rectangular fragments were used to study the physical influence factors： filter paper with paraffin, filter paper without paraffin and polyester film. To study the chemical factors, some fragments were impregnated with organic extract of orange albedo, others were soaked with soybean oil and for the remaining ones nothing was applied. The fonowing parameters were evaluated：（i） attractiveness of substrate for transport and number of loading workers per treatment; （ii） foraged material incorporation; （iii） rejection by numbers of fragments deposited in the garbage or beside the fungus garden. All the polyester film fragments carried out to the fungus garden were subsequently rejected. We verified that chemical factors of the substrate were more quickly detected by the workers, whereas physical factors were used as a criterion in the decision-making to reject or accept the substrate collected.

The cultivar Malbec has been present’s good performance and quality in the South Half of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). In this context, we aimed to evaluate the quality of “Malbec” grapes in relation to the phytotechnical, physicochemical parameters and bioactive compounds under different intensities of cluster thinning in Encruzilhada do Sul-RS. The experiment was carried out in a commercial vineyard in the 2015/16 with the cultivar Malbec (Vitis vinifera l.) under rootstock “1103 Paulsen”, with spacing of 2.2 m between rows and 1.1 m between plants. The experimental design was of randomized complete blocks with five replications. The treatment factor tested was the cluster thinning, with four levels (0%, 10%, 30% and 50%), performed in véraison. The evaluated phytotechnical variables were cluster length, cluster fresh weight, berries fresh weight, number of berries, rachis fresh weight. Also what were determined are the number of clusters, production and Ravaz index. The physicochemical variables verified were pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA) and SS/TA ratio. The bioactive compounds were total polyphenols index and total anthocyanins. The appropriate balance between source and sink, by the Ravaz index, occurs to zero and 10% of cluster thinning. The “Malbec” grapes present an increase of the maturation index (SS/TA) at 50% of cluster thinning, due to the low titratable acidity at this level. The total polyphenols index has a larger increment when the plants are submitted to the cluster thinning of 10%, providing a larger quality to the fruits. At all the levels of cluster thinning tested, when compared to the control, there was a greater contribution of total anthocyanins in the berries.

The upland rice is grown in most Brazilian states. However, in many of them the yield obtained is low. The choice of cultivar more suited to a particular environment can contribute to increased productivity of this crop. This research aimed to evaluate the performance of a hybrid cultivar of upland rice (Ecco) and five conventional cultivars (BRS Monarca, BRS Primavera, AN Cambará, BRS Sertaneja and BRS MG Curinga) in two environments (Vilhena and Cerejeiras). The tests were conducted in the agricultural year 2010/2011. We evaluated the following characteristics: tillering, panicle number per unit area, number of filled grains per panicle sterile, mass of grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight, grain yield (kg·ha-1) and whole grain yield. There was no cultivar x environment interaction for all traits. Greater tillering, higher panicle number per area, higher productivity and yield of whole grains in the municipality of Cerejeiras were observed, while the highest number of sterile grains per panicle was obtained in Vilhena. The hybrid Ecco highlighted in relation to all other cultivars is in relation to tillering, panicle number per area and grain yield. The municipality of Cerejeiras is the most suitable for the cultivation of upland rice.

目的：在这项研究中,我们的目标是确定并讨论在急性冠脉综合征患者中炎性生物标志物超敏C反应蛋白的浓度血浆和TBK1之间的关系,分析超敏C反应蛋白和TBK1水平对急性冠脉综合征患者的影响。背景：炎症反应在冠心病的起源中已经做了阐述,并且炎症反应是冠状动脉疾病的结果的这一事实也已确定。CAD和炎症密切相关,事实上,炎症是冠状动脉疾病的危险因素之一。方法：本文中的数据收集自东南大学附属中大医院心脏科18至75岁的患者,数据显示这些诊断结果与冠心病相一致。总共84例患者符合入选标准,所以将这些患者作为研究对象应用在这项研究中,根据心肌肌钙蛋白Ⅰ的水平和心电图结果,71名患者被分配给研究小组,另外13名患者被分配到对照组。所有患者都有超敏C反应蛋白初步测定并采集血标本测定TBK1水平以便用于研究。每个患者在住院治疗的24小时内进行全血,甘油三酯(TG)、总胆固醇(TC)、高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(HDl-C)、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(lDl-C),超声波心动图的评估。用TBK1酶联免疫试剂盒来确定TBK1的水平。满足以下排除标准的病人被排除在研究之外：1、年龄小于18岁和超过75岁;2、有急性或慢性炎性疾病史的患者;3、在前三个月诊断出任何感染的患者;4、入研究当时在治疗炎症性或慢性传染病的患者。结果：总共84例患者,30名女性和54岁男性,年龄在65.93±9.64的患者作为这项研究的研究对象。总患者中的71例(84.5%)被诊断为急性冠脉综合征。其中,15名(17.9%)是ST段抬高型急性心肌梗死,31名(36.9%)为非ST段抬高型心肌梗死,25名(29.8%)为不稳定性心绞痛,13名(15.5%)作为对照组。两个研究组之间的平均年龄没有统计上的显著差异(ACS组年龄是66.47±9.92岁,对照组的年龄是64.00±11.01岁)。hsCRP测量显示,42例(50%)患者有超过参考范围。在ACS患者组中,hsCRP的分布(平均值;p25,p75)是(8.46;2.6,14.33)mg/l,对照组是(2.15;1.31,2.55)mg/l。在ASC组和对照组患者中hsCRP水平存在着显著的统计差异(pl, STEMI患者的TBK1平均值为100.86±28.20 ng/l,而不稳定性心绞痛和对照组有轻微的相似值,分别为94.36±36.60 ng/l和89.19±51.97 ng/l。组之间TBK1差异无统计学意义(p=0.630)。结论：ACS患者的hsCRP和TBK1水平明显高于对照组,然而,ACS患者的超敏C-反应蛋白和TANK结合激酶1水平的增加,两者之间的增加是不相关的。一年以后,我们对参加该项研究的患者进行了随访,了解他们的现状,发现在入院时有较高的血浆TANK结合激酶1水平的患者,MACE发生率比对照组高,因此血浆TANK结合激酶1对判断预后和指导治疗具有一定的意义。

Reserpine-Induced Progressive Parkinsonism in Mice Predisposed and Non-Predisposed to depressive-like Behavior

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive degenerative condition that mainly affects the elderly. The disease comprises motor symptoms such as tremors at rest, loss of voluntary movement, decreased muscle strength, propensity to lean forward and acceleration of the walking pace. These signs are related to the degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway. Patients also have non-motor symptoms, among which sleep alterations, cognitive deficits, fatigue, pain and depression stand out. Although depression has been described as the most prevalent non-motor symptom, it is not clear whether this mood disorder is due to PD or patients would already have a greater predisposition. The present study evaluated the relationship between the predisposition to depressive-like behavior and the development of motor alterations in a progressive pharmacological model of PD in mice. Mice were classified into groups of depressive-like propensities and submitted to the pharmacological model. Reserpine was administrated at 0.1 mg/kg on alternate days for 40 days. The catalepsy and oral movement tests were used to evaluate motor alterations, the sucrose preference test was used to evaluate anhedonia, and the open field test was applied to evaluate general activity. Reserpine promoted parkinsonian motor impairments, and there were no differences between animals from different depressive-like behavior profiles. Thus, it was not possible to find a relationship between parkinsonism and the propensity to depression based on the basal sucrose preference test. More studies with other evaluations of depressive-like behavior are needed to confirm the results found in our study.

A conceptual modeling framework for developing process-based mathematical models of sediment generation, transport, and deposition on broad shallow flow areas is presented. The governing equations relevant to process-based modeling of broad shallow flow sediment processes on small watersheds are presented and the effects of space and time averaging on the predictive equations are described. Starting from the most general one-dimensional, unsteady model of sediment processes, simpler model structures are obtained and the successive simplifications made on the governing equations in order to obtain simpler and less detailed formulations are described. Specific model formulations are given for illustrative purposes and applications of these models to erosion and sediment yield prediction from broad shallow flow areas are shown using sediment data from rainfall simulator plots. In spite of some progress made in the development of process-based erosion and sediment yield models from broad shallow flow areas, further developmental modeling efforts must be based on a clear separation between hydrologic and hydraulic processes, and the soil properties which are significant for each.

Comparative acute effects of l-carnitine and dl-carnitine on hepatic catabolism of l-alanine and l-glutamine in rats

AIM: To compare the acute effects of l-carnitine (lCT) and dl-carnitine (DlC) on hepatic catabolism of l-alanine and l-glutamine in rats. METHODS: livers from 24 h fasted and fed rats were perfused in situ. The substrates l-alanine (5 mmol/l) and l-glutamine (5 mmol/l) were employed. The gluconeogenic and ureogenic activity was measured as the difference between the rates of glucose and urea released during and before the infusion of l-glutamine or l-alanine. RESUlTS: lCT (60 umol/l) but not DlC (60 umol/l and 120 umol/l) increased the production of glucose and urea from l-glutamine. However, neither lCT (60 umol/l and 120 umol/l) nor DlC (60 umol/l and 240 μmol/l) showed any significant effect on hepatic glucose and urea production from l-alanine. CONClUSION: The results showed a different acute effect of lCT and DlC on the activation of hepatic gluco-neogenesis and ureagenesis promoted by l-glutamine, reinforcing the idea that DlC could not replace lCT.
