Deep eutectic solvent-based polymer electrolyte for solid-state lithium metal batteries

Poly(ethylene) oxide(PEO)-based electrolytes have been widely studied for solid-state lithium batteries while their ionic conductivity and lithium-ion transference number still need to be further ***, using the combined experimental and theoretical approach, we demonstrate a novel, solidstate PEO-deep eutectic solvent(DES) electrolyte for the first time. We found that the in situ formation of DES can reduce the crystallinity of PEO matrix and more Li+ions can move freely owing to the weakened coordination between ether oxygens and Li-ions. Besides, we show that more Li+ions can be dissociated from Li salts in PEO-DES electrolyte using the molecular dynamics simulations. Such liquid-free PEO-DES electrolytes showed good ionic conductivity(2.1 × 10^(-4) S cm^(-1)) which is 160% higher than that of conventional PEO-Li TFSI(8.1 × 10^(-5) S cm^(-1)) electrolyte at 60 ℃. Additionally, the PEO-DES electrolyte showed 136% increase of Li-ion transference number(0.33) compared with ionic liquid-doped PEO-Li TFSI(0.14) at 60 ℃. Moreover, the PEO-DES exhibited good compatibility with Li metal and stable Li plating/stripping behavior with little morphology change of Li metal. This research also provides new insights into the enhancement mechanisms of novel polymer electrolytes, improving our fundamental understanding of critical challenges that have impeded the adoption of solid-state lithium metal batteries.

Mixed-dimensional composite structures using zero-dimensional(0D)quantum dots(QDs)and two-dimensional(2D)transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)materials are expected to attract great interest in optoelectronics due to the potential to generate new optical ***,we report on the unique optical characteristics of a devices with mixed dimensional vertically stacked structures based on tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2))/CdSeS QDs monolayer/molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))(2D/0D/2D).Specifically,it exhibits an ambipolar photoresponse characteristic,with a negative photoresponse observed in the 400-600 nm wavelength range and a positive photoresponse appeared at 700 nm *** resulted in the high negative responsivity of up to 52.22 mA·W^(−1)under 400 nm,which is 163 times higher than that of the photodetector without CdSeS *** also demonstrated the negative photoresponse,which could be due to increased carrier collision probability and non-radiative *** modeling and simulation reveal that Auger recombination among the types of non-radiative recombination is the main cause of negative photocurrent ***,we discovered ambipolar photoresponse near a specific wavelength corresponding to the energy of quantum *** study revealed interesting phenomenon in the mixed low-dimensional stacked structure and paved the way to exploit it for the development of innovative photodetection materials as well as for optoelectronic applications.

Geometrical and Geotechnical Characteristics of Landslides in Korea under Various Geological Conditions

The goal of this study is to determine the geometrical and geotechnical characteristics of landslides under various geological conditions using detailed field surveys, laboratory soil tests and precipitation records. Three study areas are selected to consider different rocks, including gneiss in Jangheung, granite in Sangju and sedimentary rocks in Pohang, South Korea. Many landslides have occurred in these three areas during the rainy *** records indicate that landslides occurring in the gneiss area of Jangheung and granite area of Sangju may be influenced by the hourly rainfall intensity rather than cumulative ***, landslides occurring in the sedimentary rock area of Pohang may be influenced by hourly rainfall intensity and cumulative rainfall. To investigate the factors that influence these types of landslides, a detailed landslide survey was performed and a series of laboratory soil tests were *** to the detailed field survey, most landslides occurred on the flanks of mountain slopes, and the slope inclination where they occurred mostly ranged from 26 to 30 degrees, regardless of the geological conditions. The landslide in the gneiss area of Jangheung is larger than the landslides in the granite area of Sangju and sedimentary rock area of ***, the landslide in the sedimentary rock area is shorter and shallower than the landslides in the gneiss and granite areas. Thus, the shape and size of the landslide are clearly related to the geological conditions. According to the integrated soil property and landslide occurrence analyses results, the average dry unit weight of the soils from the landslide sites is smaller than that of the soils obtained from the nonlandslide site. The average coefficient of permeability of soils obtained from the landslide sites is greater than that of soils obtained from the non-landslide sites with the same geology. A simple model of three coupled oscillators as an approximation of main modes behaviors in a spatial extended system is proposed. Multi-looping generalized synchronization and drift intermittent lag phase synchronization phenomena are found in this simple model. For a certain of parameters in which chaotic-like intermittent behavior exhibit the amplitudes and phases of three modes are controlled to be synchronized states via coupling them with an external periodic mode.

Background:Recent studies showed that sequential selective transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)and portal vein embolization(PVE)provided better future liver remnant(FLR)regeneration rate and disease-free survival following surgery compared with PVE *** present study aimed to clarify whether preoperative sequential TACE and PVE before right hemihepatectomy can reduce postoperative hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)recurrence and improve long-term disease-free and overall ***:Recurrence and survival outcomes were retrospectively evaluated in 205 patients with HCC who underwent right hemihepatectomy by a single surgeon from November 1993 to November *** were divided into four groups according to the procedure performed before the surgery:sequential TACE and PVE(TACE-PVE),PVE-only,TACE-only,or na?ve control *** baseline patient and tumor characteristics,postoperative outcomes,recurrence-free survival and overall survival were ***:Baseline patient and tumor characteristics upon diagnosis were similar in all four groups,while sequential TACE and PVE were well *** TACE-PVE group had a higher mean increase in percentage FLR volume compared with that of the PVE-only group(17.46%±6.63%vs.12.14%±5.93%;P=0.001).The TACE-PVE group had significantly better overall and disease-free survival rates compared with the other groups(both P<0.001).Conclusions:Sequential TACE and PVE prior to surgery can be an effective therapeutic strategy for patients with HCC scheduled for major hepatic *** active application of preoperative sequential TACE and PVE for HCC would allow more patients with marginal FLR volume to become candidates for major hepatic resection by promoting compensatory FLR hypertrophy without the deterioration of basal hepatic functional reserve or tumor progression.

A jig was developed for generating a shear wave. A pyramid with an isosceles triangle with two 45o was made of aluminum to generate shear waves using two longitudinal transducers based on ultrasonic-polarized mechanism. Also, the signal splitter was connected to the pulser jack on the pulser/receiver and to the longitudinal transducers. Therefore, an experimental way was performed in order to make shear wave on the bottom of aluminum alloyed pyramid. Also, a jig was manufactured and developed for generating a shear wave based on the computer numerical simulation. It is found that the experimentally shear wave variation of newly-designed jig is consistent with computer numerical simulation results and shear wave ultrasonic application can be very useful to detect the defects in CFRP composites.

Thin film of Ti-Ni alloy has a potential to perform the microactuation functions required in the microelectromechanical system (MEMS). It is essential, however, to have good uniformity in both chemical composition and thickness to realize its full potential as an active component of MEMS devices. Electron beam evaporation technique was employed in this study to fabricate the thin films of Ti-Ni alloy on different substrates. The targets used for the evaporation were first prepared by electron beam melting. The uniformity of composition and microstructure of the thin films were characterized by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mechanical property of the thin films was evaluated by the nano-indentation test. The martensitic transformation temperature was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It is confirmed that the chemical composition of deposited thin films is identical to that of the target materials. Furthermore, results from depth profiling of the chemical composition variation reveal that the electron beam evaporation process yields better compositional homogeneity than other conventional methods such as sputtering and thermal evaporation. Microstructural observation by TEM shows that nanometer size precipitates are preferentially distributed along the grain boundaries of a few micron size grains. The hardness and elastic modulus of thin films decreases with an increase in Ti contents.

A vertically aligned anatase TiO2 （A-TiO2） nanotube array has been fabricated by coating a ZnO nanorod （NR） template with a TiO2 precursor solution. After coating, the ZnO NR cores were selectively etched in an acidic environment to form TiO2 nanotubes （NTs）. More specifically, after growing the ZnO NRs via a hydrothermal method, one drop of the TiO2 precursor solution was cast to coat the ZnO NRs, the tops of which were previously covered with chemical capping materials by electrostatic interaction, and then the sample was sintered. Finally, the sample was immersed in an acidic solution resulting in selective etching of the ZnO NR cores. Thus, only TiO2 NTs remained on the substrate. The capping material is effectively used to create a perfect, hexagonal open-ended TiO2 NT array, which interestingly extends onset absorption towards the visible region.
