The value of community science data to analyze long-term avian trends in understudied regions:The state of birds in Türkiye

recent studies have revealed concerning declines in bird populations in Europe and other parts of the *** understudied but biodiverse regions,especially those that are located along key migratory flyways,there is an unmet need to evaluate the status of resident and migratory birdlife for avian conservation *** is especially urgent at a time when recent regional studies have highlighted the scale of the decline of the European and Palearctic *** growing community science datasets may help bridge the gaps in our understanding of long-term regional avifaunal *** this study,we used eBird data submitted by observers in Türkiye to undertake the first long-term assessment of the state of the country’s birds from 2001 to *** evaluated population trends based on presence-absence data of species to determine if any birds have significantly increased or decreased in the country so far this *** provide a list of trends for 418 bird species that had large enough sample sizes of eBird observations from Türkiye,and highlight which species have significantly declined or *** found that 63 species have significantly declined in detection while 120 have significantly increased during the study *** findings provide a baseline for the future monitoring of Türkiye’s birds and help contextualize population changes of birds in Türkiye against those occurring at the continental(Palearctic)***,we include movement classifications for all of the bird species in this *** also provide a framework to effectively use eBird data to assess long-term avifaunal changes at the country-level in other understudied ***,we highlight ways in which eBirders in Türkiye and elsewhere can strengthen the quality and value of community ornithology data for population assessments and avian conservation ecology.

Interaction of carbonaceous nanomaterials with wastewater biomass

Increasing production and use of carbonaceous nanomaterials （NMs） will increase their release to the sewer system and to municipal wastewater treatment plants. There is little quantitative knowledge on the removal of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs）, graphene oxide （GO）, or few-layer graphene （FLG） from wastewater into the wastewater biomass. As such, we investigated the quantification of GO and MWCNTs by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and FLG using programmable thermal analysis （PTA）, respectively. We further explored the removal of pristine and oxidized MWCNTs （O- MWCNTs）, GO, and FLG in a biomass suspension. At least 96% of pristine and O-MWCNTs were removed from the water phase through aggregation and 30-min settling in presence or absence of biomass with an initial MWCNT concentration of 25mg.L-1. Only 65% of GO was removed with biomass concentration at or above 1,000 mg. L-1 as total suspended solids （TSS） with the initial GO concentration of 25 mg. L-1. As UV-Vis spectrophotometry does not work well on quantification of FLG, we studied the removal of FLG at a lower biomass concentration （50mg TSS-L-1） using PTA, which showed a 16% removal of FLG with an initial concentration of 1 mg ·L-1. The removal data for GO and FLG were fitted using the Freundlich equation （r2 = 0.55, 0.94, respectively）. The data presented in this study for carbonaceous NM removal from wastewater provides quantitative informa- tion for environmental exposure modeling and life cycle assessment.

It is difficult to accurately assess and differentially diagnose the anxiety *** current system of assessment relies heavily on the subjective measures of client self-report,clinical observation,and clinical ***,recent technological advances may enable practitioners to utilize objective,biobehavioral measures of assessment in a clinical *** current body of literature on two of these biobehavioral tools(eyetracking and electrocardiogram devices) is promising,but more validation and standardization research is needed to maximize the utility of these ***-tracking devices are uniquely capable of providing data that can be used to differentially diagnose anxiety disorders from both other commonly comorbid and misdiagnosed *** eye-tracking and electrocardiogram devices are able to provide change-sensitive assessment *** objective,real-time feedback can assist clinicians and researchers in assessing treatment efficacy and symptom *** developed wearable and highly portable electrocardiogram devices,like the wearable fitness and behavior tracking devices used by many consumers,may be particularly suited for providing this feedback to *** these biobehavioral devices would supply an objective,dimensional component to the current categorical diagnostic assessment *** posit that if adequate funding and attention are directed at this area of research,it could revolutionize diagnostic and on-going assessment practices and,in doing so,bring the field of diagnosis out of the 20 th century.

Fracture of allograft interbody spacer resulting in post-operative radiculopathy: A case report

BACKGrOUND Allograft interbody spacers are utilized during transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(TLIF) to reestablish anterior column support and disc height. While the TLIF technique offers many improvements over previous surgical methods,instrumentation and bone graft-related complications such as spacer misplacement or migration, screw fracture or misplacement, or rod breakage continue to be reported. The objective of this manuscript is to report on a fractured allograft interbody spacer that displaced into the neural foramen and resulted in impingement on the exiting nerve root that required *** SUMMArY A 50-year-old male had two-level TLIF with immediate post-operative right L5 radiculopathy. Computed tomography scan demonstrated a fractured allograft interbody spacer that displaced into the right neural foramen and impinged on the exiting L5 nerve root. revision surgery was performed to remove the broken allograft fragments from the right L5 foramen and the intact portion of the spacer was left in place. The right leg L5 radicular pain resolved. At the last follow up 12 mo after the index procedure, computed tomography scan confirmed sound interbody and posterolateral *** Displacement of broken allograft interbody spacer following TLIF procedures can result in neurological sequelae that require revision. To avoid such an occurrence,the authors recommend allowing sufficient time for the reconstitution of the graft in saline prior to use to decrease brittleness, to use an impactor size that is as close as possible to the spacer size and meticulous inspection of the cortical allograft spacer for any visible imperfection prior to insertion.

The principles of open fracture management are to manage the overall injury and specifically prevent primary contamination becoming frank infection. The surgical management of these complex injuries includes debridement ＆ lavage of the open wound with combined bony and soft tissue reconstruction. Good results depend on early high quality definitive surgery usually with early stable internal fixation and associated soft tissue repair. While all elements of the surgical principles are very important and depend on each other for overall success the most critical element appears to be achieving very early healthy soft tissue cover. As the injuries become more complex this involves progressively more complex soft tissue reconstruction and may even requiring urgent free tissue transfer requiring close co-operative care between orthopaedic and plastic surgeons. Data suggests that the best results are obtained when the whole surgical reconstruction is completed within 48-72 h.

Free-Standing α-MoO_(3)/Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene Hybrid Electrode in Water-in-Salt Electrolytes

While transition-metal oxides such as α-MoO_(3)provide high capacity,their use is limited by modest electronic conductivity and electrochemical instability in aqueous ***-dimensional(2D)MXenes,offer metallic conductivity,but their capacitance is limited in aqueous *** of partially solvated cations into Ti_(3)C_(2)MXene from lithium-based water-in-salt(WIS)electrolytes enables charge storage at positive potentials,allowing a wider potential window and higher ***,we demonstrate that α-MoO_(3)/Ti_(3)C_(2)hybrids combine the high capacity of α-MoO_(3)and conductivity of Ti_(3)C_(2)in WIS(19.8 m LiCI)electrolyte in a wide1.8 V voltage *** voltammograms reveal multiple redox peaks from α-MoO_(3)in addition to the well-separated peaks of Ti_(3)C_(2)in the hybrid *** leads to a higher specific charge and a higher rate capability compared to a carbon and binder containing α-MoO_(3)*** results demonstrate that the addition of MXene to less conductive oxides eliminates the need for conductive carbon additives and binders,leads to a larger amount of charge stored,and increases redox capacity at higher *** addition,MXene encapsulated α-MoO_(3)showed improved electrochemical stability,which was attributed to the suppressed dissolution of α-MoO_(3).The work suggests that oxide/MXene hybrids are promising for energy storage.

Substrate-based galvanic replacement reactions carried out on heteroepitaxially formed silver templates

Galvanic replacement reactions have been widely used to transform solution dispersed silver template structures into intricate nanoshell geometries. Here, we report on the use of these same reactions to form hollow substrate-supported Au-Ag nanoshells from silver templates having a heteroepitaxial relationship with the underlying single crystal substrate. The structures obtained exhibit a nanohut geometry, show highly tunable plasmonic properties and are formed as periodic arrays using a lithography-free technique. When removed from the substrate the inverted nanohuts appear as nanobowls with a notch in the rim. The study lays the groundwork for wafer-based devices utilizing nanoshells located at site-specific locations.
