Dear Editor,Since its first description in South Africa in November 2021,the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant rapidly outcompeted the previously dominating Delta *** is the fifth variant of concern(VOC).It contains an unusually high number of mutations compared to previous VOCs,especially in the viral Spike protein,and shows high transmissibility and efficient escape of neutralizing antibodies.

Ba(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_(3)(BMN)doped and undoped B_(0.45)Sr_(0.55)TiO_(3)(BST)thin films were deposited via radio frequency magnetron sputtering on PUTiO_(2)/SiO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) *** surface morphology and chemical state analyses of the films have shown that the BMN doped BST film has a smoother surface with reduced oxygen vacancy,resulting in an improved insulating properties of the BST *** tunability,loss,and leakage current(LC)of the undoped and BMN doped BST thin flms were *** BMN dopant has remarkably reduced the dielectric loss(~38%)with no significant effect on the tunability of the BST film,leading to an increase in figure of merit(FOM).This is attributed to the opposing behavior of large Mg2+whose detrimental effect on tunability is partially compensated by small Nb5+as the two substitute Ti4+in the *** coupling between Mg″_(Ti)and V_(o)charged defects suppresses the dielectric loss in the film by cutting electrons from hopping between Ti *** LC of the films was investigated in the temperature range of 300-450K.A reduced LC measured for the BMN doped BST film was correlated to the formation of defect dipoles from Mg″_(Ti),V_(o)and Nb_(Ti) charged *** carrier transport properties of the films were analyzed in light of Schottky thermionic emission(SE)and Poole-Frenkel(PF)enmission *** result indicated that while the carrier transport mechanism in the undoped film is interface limited(SE),the conduction in the BMN doped film was dominated by bulk processes(PF).The change of the conduction mechanism from SE to PF as a result of BMN doping is atributed to the presence of uncoupled Nb_(Ti) stting as a positive trap center at the shallow donor level of the BST.

The photoacoustic effect was employed to generate short-duration quasi-unipolar acoustic pressure pulses in both planar and spherically focused *** the focal region,the temporal profile of a pressure pulse can be approximated by the first derivative of the temporal profile near the front transducer surface,with a time-averaged value equal to *** approximation agreed with experimental results acquired from photoacoustic transducers with both rigid and free *** a free boundary,the acoustic pressure in the focal region is equal to the sum of a positive pressure that follows the spatial profile of the optical energy deposition in the medium and a negative pressure that follows the temporal profile of the laser pulse.

A proposal for an experiment to measure the cross section of antiproton production in a proton-nuclear collision in a kinematically forbidden region for nucleon-nucleon interaction on a fixed LHC target is considered. It is shown that this process can be separated from the kinematically allowed production process using the existing detectors of the ALICE facility at a proton energy of 7 TeV with a fixed nuclear target. Assuming the scale dependence of the cross section, the data obtained can be used to estimate the subthreshold cross section for the production of superheavy particles with a mass of several tens of TeV in the LHC lead nucleus beam.

Human bone allografts present a better alternative to autografts in terms of minimization of the harvesting procedure *** to the use in clinical applications,they require sterilization which aims to reduce *** often comes at the expense of their biological properties as carriers of *** this study,we evaluated the cytocompatibility of human bone allografts processed and sterilized by three different methods withmesenchymal stromal *** morphology,biological and biochemical properties of the extracted bone-conditionedmedium and viability of cells were *** found that chemical sterilization had a strong negative effect on cell viability,whereas thermal sterilization and washing with subsequentγ-irradiation both resulted in a bone graft compatible with the progenitor ***,washing of the bone prior to sterilization allowed solid removal of cell debris and other bone marrow *** together,our findings demonstrate the importance of a proper choice of the bone graft processing method for the production of the biomaterial suitable for tissue engineering.

Recent experiments show that the chemical composition of body-centered cubic(bcc)refractory high entropy alloys(HEAs)can be tuned to enable transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP),which significantly improves the ductility of these *** calls for an accurate and efficient method to map the structural stability as a function of composition.A key challenge for atomistic simulations is to separate the structural transformation between the bcc and theωphases from the intrinsic local lattice distortions in such chemically disordered *** solve this issue,we develop a method that utilizes a symmetry analysis to detect differences in the crystal *** this method in combination with ab initio calculations,we demonstrate that local lattice distortions largely affect the phase stability of Ti–Zr–Hf–Ta and Ti–Zr–Nb–Hf–Ta *** relaxation effects are properly taken into account,the predicted compositions near the bcc–hcp energetic equilibrium are close to the experimental compositions,for which good strength and ductility due to the TRIP effect are observed.
