Cancerous cell viability affected by synergism between electric pulses and a low dose of silver nanoparticle:An adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system

In the current study,applying simultaneously electroporation and silver nanoparticles(SNPs)are ***,one restriction normally assigned to such nanoparticles is their side effects on the vital organs of the *** mitigate such deleterious effects,it is better to use lower dosages of ***,this can result in a decline in the technique's *** compensate for the lower dose of SNPs,one can use secondary method like electroporation to deliver SNPs directly into the cells and reinforces the effect of electric pulses due to the high electrical conductivity of SNPs while having a minimal cytotoxicity effect on normal cells that are not treated with *** the present study,synergism effects of both procedures(SNPs and electroporation)experimentally and theoretically are considered to investigate the property of each technique in increasing the performance with respect to both procedures'*** investigate more,adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)is used to predict the percent cell viability of cancerous cells affected by both procedures by considering amplitude and duration as inputs affecting on change of cell viability as an *** results obtained from both experimental and simulation procedures showed that the maximum synergism between nanoparticles and electric pulses was recorded at 700V/cm strength and 100μs ***,Results indicated high correlation between observed and predicted data(r2=0.88).Moreover,the calculated root mean square error for the results of the ANFIS model was equal to *** implies that the model has practical value and can estimate the percent cell viability of cancerous cells influenced by both procedures with varying electric field amplitude and *** method can be proposed for other biophysical or drug delivery applications to save time and resources by utilizing the previous experimental data rather than performing more experiments.

Brain metastasis and primary glioblastoma multiforme represent the most common and lethal malignant brain tumors. Its median survival time is typically less than a year after diagnosis. One of the major challenges in treating these cancers is the efficiency of the transport of drugs to the central nervous system. The blood-brain barrier is cooperating with advanced stages of malignancy. The blood-brain barrier poses a significant challenge to delivering systemic medications to brain tumors. Nanodrug delivery systems have emerged as promising tools for effectively crossing this barrier. Additionally, the development of smart nanoparticles brings new hope for cancer diagnosis and treatment. These nanoparticles improve drug delivery efficiency, allowing for the creation of targeted and stimuli-responsive delivery methods. This review highlights recent advancements in nanoparticle and smart nanoparticle technologies for brain cancer treatment, exploring the range of nanoparticles under development, their applications, targeting strategies, and the latest progress in enhancing transport across the blood-brain barrier. It also addresses the ongoing challenges and potential benefits of these innovative approaches.

Effects of the plenum chamber volume and distributor geometry on fluidized bed hydrodynamics

Most hydrodynamic fluidized bed models, including CFD codes, neglect any effects of the plenum chamber volume. Experiments were performed in a 0.13 m ID fluidization column to determine plenum chamber volume effects on fluidized bed hydrodynamics for FCC and glass particles. Two low-pressure-drop distributors were used, one with a single orifice, and the other with 33 orifices and the same total open area as the single orifice. The results show two peaks in the frequency spectra for the single-orifice distributor, one representing bubble eruption at the bed surface and the other of higher frequency corresponding to the bubbling frequency at the distributor. The latter decreased slightly with increasing plenum volume and with increasing bed depth. For the multi-orifice distributor, broad frequency spectra from pressure measurements became narrower and moved towards higher frequency with decreasing plenum volume.

Pathological scarring imposes a major clinical and social burden *** cutaneous wounds are responsive to mechanical forces and convert mechanical cues to biochemical signals that eventually promote *** understand the mechanotransduction pathways in cutaneous scarring and develop new mechanotherapy approaches to achieve optimal scarring,the current study highlights the mechanical behavior of unwounded and scarred skin as well as intra-and extracellular mechanisms behind keloid and hypertrophic ***,the therapeutic interventions that promote optimal scar healing by mechanical means at the molecular,cellular or tissue level are extensively *** current literature highlights the significant role of fibroblasts in wound contraction and scar formation via differentiation ***,understanding myofibroblasts and their responses to mechanical loading allows the development of new scar therapeutics.A review of the current clinical and preclinical studies suggests that existing treatment strategies only reduce scarring on a small scale after wound closure and result in poor functional and aesthetic ***,the perspective of mechanotherapies needs to consider the application of both mechanical forces and biochemical cues to achieve optimal ***,early intervention is critical in wound management;thus,mechanoregulation should be conducted during the healing process to avoid scar *** studies should either consider combining mechanical loading(pressure)therapies with tension offloading approaches for scar management or developing more effective early therapies based on contraction-blocking biomaterials for the prevention of pathological scarring.

Isolation and molecular identification of cellulolytic bacteria from Dig Rostam hot spring and study of their cellulase activity

Cellulose is the main structural component of lignocellulosic wastes that can be converted to sugars and biofuels by *** to wide applications of this enzyme in various industries around the world,cellulase is considered as the third industrial *** ability of thermophilic bacteria in the production of heat-stable cellulases has made them valuable tools in *** aim of this study was isolation and molecular identification of cellulolytic thermophile bacteria from Dig Rostam hot spring and investigating their cellulase *** were taken from water and sediments of this hot spring,and cellulolytic bacteria were enriched in media containing cellulose as the only carbon *** bacteria were incubated at 60℃,and single colonies were then isolated on solid *** red assay was used as a quick test for the qualitative screening of cellulase *** to these qualitative results,four colonies named CDB1,CDB2,CDB3,and CDB4 were isolated,and their growth curve and some other characteristics were determined by biochemical ***,endoglucanase,exoglucanase,and FPase activities of the isolates were investigated *** indicated that CDB1 exhibited the highest endoglucanase(0.096 U/mL)and exoglucanase(0.156 U/mL)activities among other isolates.16S rDNA partial sequencing indicated that CDB1 had 99%similarity to the genus Anoxybacillus,and the other isolates showed the highest similarity to the genus *** cellulase gene of CDB1 isolate with the highest cellulase activity was also cloned,and its sequence is reported for the first *** studies on this thermophilic enzyme might be useful for industrial applications.

Empirical modeling of dopability in diamond-like semiconductors

Intracerebroventricular opiate infusion for refractory head and facial pain

AIM: To study the risks and benefits of intracerebroventricular(ICV) opiate pumps for the management of benign head and face ***: SSix patients with refractory trigeminal neuralgia and/or cluster headaches were evaluated for implantation of an ICV opiate infusion pump using either ICV injections through an Ommaya reservoir or external ventricular drain. Four patients received morphine ICV pumps and two patient S received a hydromorphone pump. Of the Four patients with morphine ICV pumps, one patient had the medication changed to hydromorphone. Preoperative and post-operative visual analog scores(VAS) were obtained. Patients were evaluated post-operatively for a minimum of 3 mo and the pump dosage was adjusted at each outpatient clinic visit according to the patient's pain ***: All 6 patients had an intracerebroventricular opiate injection trial period, using either an Ommaya reservoir or an external ventricular drain. There was an average VAS improvement of 75.8%. During the trial period, no complications were observed. Pump implantation was performed an average of 3.7 wk(range 1-7) after the trial injections. After implantation, an average of 20.7 ± 8.3 dose adjustments were made over 3-56 mo after surgery to achieve maximal pain relief. At the most recent follow-up(26.2 mo, range 3-56), VAS scores significantly improved from an average of 7.8 ± 0.5(range 6-10) to 2.8 ± 0.7(range 0-5) at the final dose(mean improvement 5.0 ± 1.0, P < 0.001). All patients required a stepwise increase in opiate infusion rates to achieve maximal benefit. The most common complications were nausea and drowsiness, both of which resolved with pump adjustments. On average, infusion pumps were replaced every 4-5 ***: These results suggest that ICV delivery of opiates may potentially be a viable treatment option for patients with intractable pain from trigeminal neuralgia or cluster headache.

The effect of head and facial massage on sleep condition after coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Background:Sleep disorders after heart surgery lead to increased heart rate,myocardial oxygen demand,and cause dysrhythmia that worsens heart *** purpose of this study was to determine the effect of head and facial massage on sleep conditions following coronary artery bypass graft *** and methods:A randomized controlled trial was performed on 72 *** were randomly divided into interventional(n=36)and control groups(n=36).On the third to fifth day after the operation,head and the facial massage were done for 15 min in the intervention *** patients in the control group received only routine *** Campbell’s Sleep Questionnaire was completed for four consecutive days for each *** were analyzed in SPSS ***:Mean scores for sleep conditions before the intervention no statistically significant difference seen between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention,there was a statistically significant difference between mean scores for sleep conditions of the interventional and control groups(P<0.001).Also with general estimated equation test compared mean scores for sleep conditions between two *** revealed sleep condition total score in the intervention group was more than the control group and the trend of changes over time was statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion:Head and facial massage is an effective nursing intervention in improving the sleep condition of patients after coronary artery bypass *** to the fact that head and face massage is an easy method and brings patient satisfaction,it is recommended to use this method as a suitable supplement for drug therapy and postoperative interventions in these patients.
