Detection of early gastric cancer using hydro-stomach CT:Blinded vs unblinded analysis

Estimation of vehicle queuing lengths at metering roundabouts

Signalized metering roundabouts are equipped with advanced loop detectors and traffic signals that can reduce vehicle queuing lengths, especially on the dominant approach, when unbalanced traffic flow conditions occur. At a metering roundabout, changeable queuing lengths and the location of detectors determine signal phase times, which in turn affect queuing length on each approach. To date, most studies have focused on perfor- mance comparisons between normal and metered roundabouts, but have failed to evaluate the effect of detector locations on queuing formations. In addition, no guidelines have been developed to enable practitioners to select the appropriate detector location that would lead to optimum roundabout performance. This study, therefore, formulated a numerical model for the estimation of queuing length at a metering roundabout. The model consists of advance vehicle detectors on two approaches and one traffic signal. In order to calibrate and verify the model, queuing lengths were recorded using two drones for the Old Belair Road metering roundabout in Adelaide, South Australia. In order to assess the fitness of the model, an R2 test was conducted, and the results showed that the numerical model can predict queuing lengths on the controlling and metered approaches with up to 83% of R2 value. Moreover, the estimated queuing lengths were compared against those predicted by the software AIMSUN for the same location and under the same conditions. It is expectedthat the model will assist and guide practitioners in determining the best detector locations for metering roundabouts.

hOGG1 Ser326Cys polymorphism modifies the significance of the environmental risk factor for colon cancer

AIM:To determine the association of hOGG1 (8-oxoguanine glycosylase I,OGG1) polymorphism of Ser326Cys substitution with colon cancer risk and possible interaction with known environmental risk factors. METHODS:A case-control study with 125 colon cancer cases and 247 controls was conducted, RESULTS:There was no major difference in Ser326Cys genotype distribution between cases and *** meat intake tended to increase the odds ratio for colon cancer with an OR of 1.72 (95 % confidence interval;CI=1.12-2.76). Such tendency was more prominent in Cys/Cys carriers (OR=4.31,95 % CI=1.64-11.48),but meat intake was not a significant risk factor for colon cancer in Ser/Ser or Ser/ Cys *** OR for colon cancer was elevated with marginal significance in smokers who were Cys/Cys carriers (OR=2.75,95 % CI=1.07-7.53) but not in Ser/Ser or Ser/ Cys carriers. CONCLUSION:These results suggest that the hOGG1 Ser326Cys polymorphism is probably not a major contributor to individual colon cancer susceptibility overall,but the Cys/ Cys genotype may alter the impact of some environmental factors on colon cancer development.

In this paper,we study tidal forces in the Schwarzschild black hole,whose metric explicitly includes a generalized uncertainty principle(GUP)*** also investigate interesting features of the geodesic equations and tidal effects that are dependent on the GUP parameterαrelated to a minimum ***,by solving the geodesic deviation equations explicitly with appropriate boundary conditions,we show thatαin the effective metric affects both the radial and angular components of the geodesic equation,particularly near the singularities.

Subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)tests can be used to evaluate the perception of verticality and horizontality,respectively,and can aid the diagnosis of otolith dysfunction in clinical *** this study,SVV and SVH screen version tests are implemented using virtual reality(VR)equipment;the proposed test method promotes a more immersive feeling for the subject while using a simple equipment configuration and possessing excellent *** verify the performance of the proposed VR-based SVV and SVH tests,a reliable comparison was made between the traditional screen-based SVV and SVH tests and the proposed method,based on 30 healthy *** average results of our experimental tests on the VR-based binocular SVV and SVH equipment were−0.15◦±1.74 and 0.60◦±1.18,*** proposed VR-based method satisfies the normal tolerance for horizontal or vertical lines,i.e.,a±3◦error,as defined in previous studies,and it can be used to replace existing test methods.

Identification and Removal of Non-meteorological Echoes in Dual-polarization Radar Data Based on a Fuzzy Logic Algorithm

A major issue in radar quantitative precipitation estimation is the contamination of radar echoes by non-meteorological targets such as ground clutter,chaff,clear air echoes *** this study,a fuzzy logic algorithm for the identification of non-meteorological echoes is developed using optimized membership functions and weights for the dual-polarization radar located at Mount *** selected precipitation and non-meteorological events,the characteristics of the precipitation and non-meteorological echo are derived by the probability density functions of five fuzzy parameters as functions of reflectivity *** membership functions and weights are then determined by these density ***,the nonmeteorological echoes are identified by combining the membership functions and *** performance is qualitatively evaluated by long-term rain *** detection accuracy of the fuzzy logic algorithm is calculated using the probability of detection（POD）,false alarm rate（FAR）,and clutter–signal ratio（CSR）.In addition,the issues in using filtered dual-polarization data are alleviated.

Diamond machining of sinusoidal grid surface using fast tool servo system for fabrication of hydrophobic surface

Ultra-precision diamond machining with piezoelectric-assisted fast tool servo (FTS) was used to produce various free-form surfaces.A low cost,rapid and large area fabrication of uniform hydrophobic surface at room temperature which transfers the FTS fabricated sinusoidal grid surface to the flat film with UV-moulding process was described.A piezoelectric-assisted FTS with high band width of 2 kHz,travel range up to 16 μm and the compact mechanism structure was designed for the sinusoidal grid surface machining and the dynamic performance testing of FTS was described in *** results indicate that the dimensions of sinusoidal grid change with the variation of the FTS machining *** properties of UV-moulded surface were evaluated,the best contact angle was measured to be 120.5° on the sinusoidal grid surface with profile wavelength of 350 μm and peak-to-valley amplitude of about 16 μm.

Extremely rare case of successful treatment of metastatic ovarian undifferentiated carcinoma with high-dose combination cytotoxic chemotherapy: A case report

BACKGROUND Ovarian undifferentiated carcinomas are significantly rare and have an aggressive clinical *** resection is the only curative treatment in early-stage ovarian undifferentiated carcinomas that has a favorable *** case of recurrent and metastatic disease,palliative chemotherapy is the only available ***,the effectiveness of standard chemotherapy regimen is not well-known,specifically in the case of extra-ovarian *** report an ovarian undifferentiated carcinoma of recurrent and inoperable advanced stage that was successfully treated with high-dose combination *** SUMMARY A 52-year-old woman presented with a 1-mo history of right lower quadrant and epigastric pain.A computed tomography(CT)scan of the abdomen revealed a multicystic mass with extensive internal necrosis of the right ovary without evidence of metastatic disease.A total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooophorectomy and omentectomy was performed,but the surgery had a positive resection ***,it was diagnosed as ovarian undifferentiated carcinoma with sarcomatoid *** adjuvant chemotherapy was planned,it was delayed for 6 wk because of postoperative recovery,and the patient complained of abdominal pain.A CT scan and positron emission tomography-CT revealed a huge mass with multiple nodules in the pelvic cavity and para-aortic lymph node *** of standard therapy such as paclitaxel and platinum,combined chemotherapy with etoposide,ifosfamide,and cisplatin was *** patient experienced no recurrence for 5 *** This is a case of metastatic ovarian undifferentiated carcinoma with sarcomatoid change that was successfully treated with high-dose combination cytotoxic chemotherapy.

Spatio-temporal variation of ecosystem service values adjusted by vegetation cover:a case study of Wuyishan National park Pilot,China

Ecosystem service values(ESV)are strongly influenced by the vegetation cover,which is heterogeneous across different vegetation *** develop a dynamic evaluation model of ESV for Wuyishan National park Pilot adjusted by the rate of inflation and the fractional vegetation cover,which is calculated by an enhanced vegetation index from 2000 to *** spatio-temporal variation of vegetation was also *** results demonstrated that:(1)the unit area of ecosystem service values adjusted by vegetation cover(ESVVC)shows a gradient of forest>tea plantation>grassland>cropland,and the major ecosystem services provided by forests include soil formation and conservation,climate regulation,and biodiversity maintenance;(2)the ESV_(VC) increased to 2.1 billion yuan(The reference rate announced by the People’s Bank of China is the US dollar to 6.42 Yuan per dollar.)from 2000 to *** and lower ESV_(VC) are predominant in the northwest and southeast region,*** addition,changes of ecological protection structures and human disturbances negatively affected vegetation cover,leading to a decreased ESVVC from 2000 to 2005 in the Jiuqu Stream Ecological Protection Area and the Wuyishan National Scenic *** implementation of ecological protection policies from 2010 to 2018 enhanced the ESV_(VC) in the study area;and,(3)the ESVVC is highest in the southeast and 25°–35°area with altitudes of 800–1000 *** model can provide timely and helpful information of changes in ESV for use in ecological corridor design and ecological security monitoring.

Stomach cancer screening and preventive behaviors in relatives of gastric cancer patients

AIM:To investigate gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors among the relatives of patients with gastric cancer[i.e.,gastric cancer relatives(GCRs)].METHODS:We examined the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005(KNHANESⅢ) database and compared the gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors of GCRs(n=261)with those of non-GCRs(n=454)and controls without a family history of cancer(n=2842).RESULTS:The GCRs were more likely to undergo gastric cancer screening compared with the control group(39.2%vs 32.3%,adjusted odds ratio:1.43,CI:1.05-1.95),although the absolute screening rate was *** patterns and smoking rates did not differ significantly between the groups,and a high proportion of GCRs reported inappropriate dietary habits(i.e.,approximately 95%consumed excessive sodium,30% were deficient in vitamin C,and 85%were deficient in dietary fiber).CONCLUSION:The gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors of GCRs have yet to be *** increase awareness among GCRs,systematic family education programs should be implemented.
