The effect of metal （Ti, Ni, and Au） electrodes on humidity sensing properties of electrospun TiO2 nanofibers was investigated in this work. The devices were fabricated by evaporating metal contacts on SiO2 layer thermally grown on silicon substrate. The separation between the electrodes was 90 μm for all sensors. The sensors were tested from 40% to 90% relative humidity （RH） by AC electrical characterization at room temperature. When sensors are switched between 40% and 90% RH, the corresponding response and recovery time are 3 s and 5 s for Ti-electrode sensor, 4 s and 7 s for Ni-electrode sensor, and 7 s and 13 s for Au-electrode sensor. The hysteresis was 3%, 5% and 15% for sensitivity of Ti, Ni, and Au-electrode sensors are Ti-, Ni-, and Au-electrode sensor, respectively. The 7.53 MΩ/%RH, 5.29 MΩ/%RH and 4.01 MΩ/%RH respectively at 100 Hz. Therefore Ti-electrode sensor is found to have linear response, fast response and recovery time and higher sensitivity as compared with those of Ni- and Au-electrode sensors. Comparison of humidity sensing properties of sensors with different electrode material may propose a compelling route for designing and optimizing humidity sensors.

Burden of Care as Perceived by Informal Caregivers of the Patients Receiving Chemotherapy in Tertiary Care Hospital of Karachi, Pakistan

Background: Almost 32.5 million people are diagnosed with cancer annually. The huge number of cancer patients with deteriorating health renders a far greater number of informal caregivers bearing the burden of care in different forms and magnitude. The main purpose of the study was to explore the types of burden perceived by the informal caregivers and the factors associated with the caregiving burden. Methods: A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted to answer the research questions from April to May 2016. Around 200 informal caregivers were recruited from one of the tertiary hospitals of Karachi, Pakistan. The modified ZBIS was used to collect data which was analyzed by using Chi-square test to find the associations between the demographic characteristics of informal caregivers and the perceived burden of care. Results: Findings of the study identified the employment status (P ≤ 0.020) and the religion of the informal caregivers (P ≤ 0.027) as significant, demographic variables. The functional level of care receivers was also found to be significant (P ≤ 0.002). The study also recognized four forms of burdens, with significant mean values, including financial (2.85), psychological (2.50), social (2.58), and physical (2.44). Most of the participants reported experiencing a moderate magnitude of burden, ranging from 40 - 60, on the scale of 0 - 80. Conclusion: The study highlighted four different forms of burdens, that is, financial, psychological, social, and physical, along with their associated demographic factors. Health care agencies and public health personnel should work with informal caregivers to reduce burden of care.

混凝土是当今世界应用最广的建筑材料,其中结构轻骨料混凝土(SLWAC)在相同强度下降低其密度,可以减少基础和结构构件的尺寸,从而减轻结构自重并降低成本、提高抗震能力,在大跨和高层结构中具有广泛应用价值与前景。该论文研究轻骨料混凝土的配比设计、性能及通过掺加玄武岩纤维和纳米材料的改性方法,进行了72批次的性能测试及微观结构观测分析,主要内容如下:(1)采取膨胀页岩陶粒代替普通骨料,设计了不同配合比的结构轻骨料混凝土(SLWAC),以实现坍落度、抗压强度、劈裂抗拉强度、抗折强度、剪切强度、干密度、空气含量、孔结构测定和微观结构细化的设计值。确定了粉煤灰、硅灰或矿渣替代普通硅酸盐水泥的优化比例。制备的轻骨料混凝土表观密度约为1643 kg/m3至1935 kg/m3,根据轻骨料混凝土表观密度的不同,轻骨料混凝土的强度在27.3 MPa到61.7 MPa之间变化。轻骨料混凝土的延性和弹性都发生了显著变化。在相同的抗压强度下,轻骨料混凝土与普通混凝土相比,其弹性模量显著降低并表现出明显的脆性。但是轻骨料混凝土的泊松比与普通混凝土相比变化不大。(2)纳米二氧化硅和纳米二氧化钛可以显著提高轻骨料混凝土的抗渗性。使用压汞法和SEM扫描电镜分析了其耐久性、渗透性和微观结构。在轻骨料混凝土中引入纳米材料可以显著改善低水灰比的轻骨料混凝土的耐久性。另外在特定的水灰比下,纳米二氧化硅可以优化孔结构,从而提高基体的抗渗性,纳米二氧化硅或纳米二氧化钛的添加对混凝土微观结构细化的影响提高混凝土的力学性能和长期耐久性。(3)研究了在轻骨料混凝土中掺加纤维解决其任性差的问题。研究掺加纤维对膨胀页岩为轻骨料的不同混凝土力学性能的影响,包括工作性、抗压强度、应力应变特性、抗拉强度、弹性模量和压弯韧性等等。在轻骨料混凝土中以单一或复合的形式掺加纤维,可以提高其力学性能,并显著改善其韧性、延性和吸能能力,但同时也会降低它的工作性能。对于劈裂抗拉强度和弯折强度,在轻骨料混凝土中掺加纤维明显比在普通混凝土中掺加纤维有效。

背景载脂蛋白E基因（APOE）多态性与血脂谱和心血管疾病有关;然而,这些关系因种族而异。载脂蛋白E有E2、E3、E4这3个亚型,分别由ε2,ε3和ε4这3个等位基因编码。E3是汉族人群中最常见的亚型,E2是最少见的亚型。除载脂蛋白E外,高敏感性C-反应蛋白（hs-CRP）和N-端前B型利钠肽（NT-proBNP）近来也作为心血管疾病的新型危险因素。然而载脂蛋白E的基因多态性与这些心血管疾病危险因素之间是否具有关联性,仍尚不清楚。目的本研究首次对汉族人群进行了研究,评估了载脂蛋白E基因多态性的分布及其与急性冠状动脉综合征（ACS）、血脂谱及其他心脏代谢风险因素的关系。同时,我们研究hs-CRP和NT-proBNP与APOE基因型的关系方法本前瞻性研究纳入800名汉族受试者,其中ACS212例,非ACS者588例。对rs7412和rs429358基因型进行了TaqMan分析,这两个变异型决定APOE等位基因的ε2,ε3和ε4等位基因。结果ε2、ε3和ε4的频数分别占总体样本的3.8%,76.9%和19.3%。ACS与载脂蛋白E4亚型有关。非急性冠脉综合征组载脂蛋白ε4携带者总胆固醇水平高于ε2携带者（2.414±0.519mmol/L vs 1.618±0.216 mmol/L）,低于ε3纯合子组（2.414±0.519 mmol/L vs2.574±0.507 mmol/L）,差异有显著性（p=0.05）。与ε3纯合子和ε2携带者相比,APOE-ε4携带者的低密度脂蛋白胆固醇水平更高,分别为3.222±0.280 mmol/L,2.574±0.507mmol/L和2.474±0.099 mmol/L（p=0.112）。三个等位基因组总胆固醇/高密度脂蛋白比值差异有显著性（p=0.012）,而低密度脂蛋白/高密度脂蛋白比值在三个等位基因组间差异无显著性（p=0.145）。在急性冠脉综合征组中,我们观察到APOE-ε4携带者组总胆固醇、低密度脂蛋白、高密度脂蛋白、甘油三酯水平更高。此外,APOE-ε4携带者组中总-CHO/HDL-C和LDL-C/HDL-C的比例高于APOE-ε2携带者组。此外,APOE多态性与高血压无关,而hs-CRP和NT-proBNP与ApoE 4呈负相关。Apoe-ε4等位基因与低水平的血浆hs-CRP和NT-proBNP有关。结论我们的研究结果表明,载脂蛋白E基因多态性与中国人的血脂谱及ACS有关。这种与ACS的相关性也可以由ε4携带者中较高的导致粥样动脉硬化谱所证实,这可能需要进一步研究得出确定的结论。在汉族人群中,APOE-ε4等位基因与血浆低水平hs-CRP和NT-proBNP有关,其原因尚待进一步研究来解释。

Qualification of Atomic Absorption Spectrometer in Prospective View of Pharmaceutical Analysis

AAS was qualified as per pharmacopoeia requirements. Copper, manganese, mercury and cadmium hallow cathode lamps were used for qualification purposes. Design qualification and installation qualification met the criteria of user requirements. Wavelength accuracy and reproducibility, resolution and baseline stability are in compliance with user requirements. Characteristics concentration or sensitivity, detection limit and characteristics mass were performed as a part of operational qualification which is 0.062 μg/mL, 0.00354 μg/mL, 1.41 pg respectively. Results of % RSD for precision study is 0.352 and 0.487 for flame and graphite furnace mode respectively fulfilled criteria of qualification. Performance qualification results of 20 consecutive days demonstrate the predetermined specification. Analytical instrument qualification and method validation relationship is also described by assay performed on haemodialysis concentrate. Good precision (2) greater than 0.9997 for potassium, magnesium and calcium linear curves, lower detection limits for all three ingredients and robust assay data as a part of validation studies conform the qualified AAS for its intended application.

Modeling the Mangla Dam Spillway for Cavitation and Aerators Optimization

This study evaluated the effects of increased reservoir conservation level by 40 ft (12.2 m), on spillway velocities;it’s discharging capacity and associated cavitation risk. The study optimized the aerators size and shape to avoid cavitations. The mathematical model was used to estimate the flow velocities and cavitation risk, when scale model study assessed the spillway discharging capacity and optimized the performance of the aerators for modified conditions. The mathematical model simulations showed increased flow velocities and damage index for modified conditions. The damage potential was 2 - 3 times higher with modifications and falls within the major to catastrophic region. The scale model study showed that discharging capacity of the spillway can effectively be restricted to original design by raising spillway crest by 5.0 ft (1.52 m). The scale model study also showed that the two aerators near sluice and at the chute with an air duct pipe of 3.0 ft diameter can improve the free surface flow profile reducing the risks of cavitation. Simulations for several configurations demonstrated clearer affect of aerators ramps on flow trajectory and gate opening. It also depicted that the height of the ramp of sluice aerator has a positive effect on the flow performance to about 7.5 inches (19 cm), when further increase in the ramp height reduced the flow performance.

Four locations were chosen according to geomorphologic and engineering criterion to store the water on the midstream of Tharthar valley, water samples were collected from the four locations to evaluate the hydrochemical properties as indicator to select the more suitable location, these locations are Hatra, Abu-Hamam, Tlol Al-Baj and Al-Sukkariah from the north to the south respectively. Also, the groundwater samples were collected from two shallow wells on the banks. The samples were analyzed to determine the concentrations of most common anions and cations in the water Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, CO32-, HCO3-, Cl–, SO42+. Also, pH, EC and TDS were measured. The results reflect high variations in concentrations of the soluble materials, the concentrations of these components are highly increased in locations of Tlol Al-Baj and Al-Sukkariah in comparison with the locations of Hatra and Abu-Hamam. The variation in geology of the area along the valley was represented a main role on the quality of water. These results can help to select the suitable locations of small dam (dams) to store the water in the valley and prevent the problem of salinity. According to the results, the northern part of midstream (north of Abu-Hamam) is suitable for water storage and the dam construction. While the locations of the downstream enriched by local sources of salts.

Abstract： Olive oil adulteration with less expensive edible oils is a major issue for the olive oil industry. Eleven vegetable oils were selected and purchased from different markets in Iraqi Kurdistan region （Erbil City center）. In this study high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） on reversed-phase （RP） column with refractive index （RI） detector was used to classify some components in different edible oils depending on calculation of partition number. Adulteration of one of the olive oil samples （01） was identified, due to the appearance of glycerol trilinoleate （LLL） peak in the HPLC chromatogram, while this peak is not present in HPLC chromatograms of other olive oil samples. To ensure the presence of LLL a standard concentration of LLL was added to the sample and increasing the peak height at the retention time of LLL indicates the presence of LLL and the adulteration of olive oil sample.

Study of Xanthine Oxidase Activity in Sera of Iraqi Children with Nephrotic Syndrome

Introduction: To investigate the relationship of xanthine oxidase activity with nephrotic syndrome disorder in children, and the optimization of the enzyme activity conditions in the disorder. Material and methods: Sera of children with nephrotic syndrome (NS) (60 samples) were obtained from Central Child Teaching Al Karama Hospital (CCTAH), from 2nd Mar. 2013 to 28th Feb. 2014. Sera of the patients were assayed for xanthine oxidase (XO) activity using colorimetric absorbance technique. The obtained results were compared with the enzyme activity of normal children (70 samples) as control. Results and conclusions: The results revealed a significant (P < 0.001) elevation in XO activity in serum of nephrotic syndrome (0.12 ± 0.06 IU/L) compared with that of normal subjects (0.05 ± 0.009 IU/L), showing an elevation of (70%) in XO activity (about 2/3) that of normal group. Factors influencing XO activities were also studied and showed that XO activity is a pH dependent. Significant elevation (P < 0.001) was found in uric acid level in sera of NS patients (497.52 ± 3.21 μmol/L) compared with that in normal group (298.12 ± 1.70 μmol/L). Elevation was found in urea level in sera of NS patient (10.69 ± 7.55 mmol/L) compared with that of normal group (4.57 ± 1.27 mmol/L). It was appeared, there is a role of XO activity in the pathogenesis of endothelial injury during glomerular lesion in NS and that was confirmed by comparing XO activity and other related conditions with the activity of normal volunteers.
