Coastal agriculture is vulnerable to climate change, thereby may affect food production systems and food security in Bangladesh. Methane (CH4) emission from coastal wetlands rice farming is a major environmental concern due to its global warming potential. Therefore, field experiments were conducted at the southern coastal region of Shyamnagar, Satkhira, to investigate the feasibility of Rice-Shrimp and Rice-Crabs mixed farming for adaptation to the changing climate and sustaining food production system. The experimental treatments were designed on rice-based diversified farming systems such as rice sole cropping with no NPKS + no soil amendments (T1), rice sole cropping following farmers’ practice (FP) without soil amendment (T2), rice sole cropping following FP with phosphogypsum (PG) amendment (T3), Rice-Shrimp mixed culture with PG amendment (T4), Rice-Crabs mixed culture with PG amendment (T5), Rice-Shrimp mixed culture + PG amendment with Spirulina (Cyanobacteria) inoculation (T6), and Rice-Crabs mixed culture + PG amendment with Spirulina inoculation (T7). A closed chamber technique was followed to collect gas samples from the rice paddy field and samples were analyzed by Gas Chromatograph. It was found that Rice-Shrimp (T6) and Rice-Crabs mixed farming (T7) practices significantly decreased GWPs compared to the rice sole cropping system. In the dry boro season, the maximum GWPs 4175 kg CO2 eq. ha-1 was recorded from rice sole cropping (T2), which was decreased by 30% and 36.7% under Rice-Shrimp (T6) and Rice-Crabs (T7) mixed farming practices, respectively. Furthermore, in the wet aman season, maximum GWP 4525 kg CO2 eq. ha-1 was recorded from rice sole cropping (T2), which was decreased by 33.0% and 38.8% under Rice-Shrimp and Rice-Crabs mixed farming, respectively. The speed of increasing threats to the riverine water resources makes it more critical to protect the health of Old Brahmaputra River *** current study was done to investigate the concentrations,distributions,sources,and ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediment from the Old Brahmaputra River,*** were collected from seven sites and analyzed with an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer(ICP-MS).The results showed that mean concentrations(mg/kg) of heavy metals were in the order of nickel(Ni)(44.69)> chromium(Cr)(30.16)> lead(Pb)(19.31)>copper(Cu)(17.84)> cadmium(Cd)(3.94)> arsenic(As)(2.73).The contamination factor(CF),pollution load index(PLI),enrichment factor(EF),and geo-accumulation index(Igeo) indicated low to moderate *** unit analysis revealed that the studied metals from all stations posed low *** sediment of the study river was uncontaminated to moderately contaminated,posing a minimal ecological ***,Cr,Ni,and Pb originated from anthropogenic sources rather than geogenic sources,and caused the severity of *** this regard,pollutant-based intensive monitoring of heavy metals and holistic ecological risk assessments are required to maintain a sound and healthy aquatic environment in the river.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a zoonotic pathogen capable of causing severe respiratory disease in humans. Although dromedary camels are considered as a major reservoir host, the MERS-CoV infection dynamics in camels are not fully understood. Through surveillance in Pakistan, nasal (n = 776) and serum (n = 1050)samples were collected from camels between November 2015 and February 2018. Samples were collected from animal markets, free-roaming herds and abattoirs. An in-house ELISA was developed to detect IgG against MERS-CoV. A total of 794 camels were found seropositive for MERS-CoV. Prevalence increased with the age and the highest seroprevalence was recorded in camels aged [ 10 years (81.37%) followed by those aged 3.1–10 years (78.65%) and B 3 years (58.19%).Higher prevalence was observed in female (78.13%) as compared to male (70.70%). Of the camel nasal swabs, 22 were found to be positive by RT-qPCR though with high Ct values. Moreover, 2,409 human serum samples were also collected from four provinces of Pakistan during 2016–2017. Among the sampled population, 840 humans were camel *** we found a high rate of MERS-CoV antibody positive dromedaries (75.62%) in Pakistan, no neutralizing antibodies were detected in humans with and without contact to camels.

In this study,a set of coupled multi-media compartments(i.e.,sediment,soil,water and vegetable)was used to assess ecological and health risks from the ingestion of 11 PTEs(Pb,Cd,Cr,As,Hg,Cu,Zn,Ni,Co,Fe,and Mn)and their transportation routes in the water-soil-plant system from the coastal Bhola Island,*** mean concentrations of Cd,Pb,and Co for soil and Cd,Co,and As for sediment were higher than their reference *** contrast,Cd,Pb,and Ni concentrations in water surpassed the acceptable limits set by national and international laws and were considered unsuitable for drinking *** demonstrated high Pb and Cd contents,demonstrating a potential food safety risk to the *** of principal component analysis(PCA)revealed that Cd,Pb,Hg,Cu,Ni and Zn sources were likely to be anthropogenic,especially agro-farming inputs,whereas the Fe,As,Cr,Mn,and Co sources were similar to natural ***,Cd,Pb and Co are the key contaminants in the study area and pose the elevated health and ecological risks in the coastal *** and Pb exhibited higher ecological risks in soils and sediments,as Pb had the highest bio-accessibility(BA;0.02±0.003)and Cd possessed a high bioaccumulation factor(BCF;0.004±0.006).The self-organizing map analysis recognized three spatial patterns which are good agreement with *** average hazard index(HI)values for soil were above the permissible level(HI>1)set by the respective agency;two times higher HI values were noticed for children than adults,suggesting children are highly susceptible to health *** monitoring and source controls for Cd and Pb,along with agro-farming management practices,need to be implemented to reduce the risk of PTE contamination to the aquatic ecosystem and its inhabitants.

AIM:To characterize the relationship between depression and epilepsy-related seizures,treatment,hormonal and biological ***:Included were 200 Egyptian adults(male=100,female=100)with epilepsy(mean age:30.87±7.88 years;duration of illness:13.89±7.64 years)and 100 healthy matched subjects for *** interview,Beck Depression Inventory(BDIII)and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAM-A)were used to assess depression and *** levels of free testosterone,sex hormone binding globulin,prolactin,free thyroxin and thyroid stimulating hormone,serotonin,noradrenaline and adrenaline neurotransmitters were measured to assess endocrine and biological ***:Patients had higher rates of depressive disorder(25.5%or 51/200),mostly intermixed with anxiety(47.06%),psychotic features(19.61%),aggression(40%)and suicide(55%).Compared to controls,higher scores on the BDI-II were observed with right-sided epileptic foci(P=0.011),polytherapy(P=0.001)and lack of control on antiepileptic drugs(AEDs)(P=0.0001).Patients had lower levels of serotonin(P=0.001)[marked with depression(P=0.012)]and adrenaline(P=0.0001),while noradrenaline was lower with temporal lobe epilepsy(P=0.039),left-sided foci(P=0.047)and lack of control on AEDs(P=0.017).Negative correlations were observed between levels of serotonin and BDI-II(P=0.048)and HAM-A(P=0.009)scores,but not with AEDs dose or drug ***:Comorbid depressive disorder with epilepsy appears to be closely related to seizure type,focus,side,intractability to medications and neurotransmitter ***,optimizing seizure control and early recognition and management of depression is necessary to improve patients’quality of life.
