Fungi are an understudied resource possessing huge potential for developing products that can greatly improve human *** the current paper,we highlight some important discoveries and developments in applied mycology and interdisciplinary Life Science *** examples concern recently introduced drugs for the treatment of infections and neurological diseases;application of–OMICS techniques and genetic tools in medical mycology and the regulation of mycotoxin production;as well as some highlights of mushroom cultivaton in *** for new diagnostic tools in medical mycology and the exploitation of new candidates for therapeutic drugs,are also *** addition,two entries illustrating the latest developments in the use of fungi for biodegradation and fungal biomaterial production are *** other areas where there have been and/or will be significant developments are also *** is our hope that this paper will help realise the importance of fungi as a potential industrial resource and see the next two decades bring forward many new fungal and fungus-derived products.

A novel CMOS charge-pump circuit with current mode control 110mA at 2.7V for telecommunication systems

This paper presents a novel organization of switch capacitor charge pump circuits based on voltage doubler structures. Each voltage doubler takes a DC input and outputs a doubled DC voltage. By cascading voltage doublers the output voltage increases up to 2 times. A two-phase voltage doubler and a multiphase voltage doubler structures are discussed and design considerations are presented. A simulator working in the Q-V realm was used for simplified circuit level simulation. In order to evaluate the power delivered by a charge pump, a resistive load is attached to the output of the charge pump and an equivalent capacitance is evaluated. To avoid the short circuit during switching, a clock pair generator is used to achieve multi-phase non-overlapping clock pairs. This paper also identifies optimum loading conditions for different configurations of the charge pumps. The proposed charge-pump circuit is designed and simulated by SPICE with TSMC 0.35-μm CMOS technology and operates with a 2.7 to 3.6 V supply voltage. It has an area of 0.4 mm^2; it was designed with a frequency regulation of 1 MHz and internal current mode to reduce power consumption.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy(EUS-FNB)is an excellent investigation to diagnose pancreatic lesions and has shown high accuracy for its use in pathologic ***,macroscopic on-site evaluation(MOSE)performed by an endoscopist was introduced as an alternative to rapid on-site cytologic evaluation to increase the diagnostic yield of *** MOSE of the biopsy can estimate the adequacy of the sample directly by the macroscopic evaluation of the core tissue obtained from *** pancreatic tuberculosis is extremely rare and difficult to diagnose because of its non-specific signs and ***,this challenging diagnosis is based on endoscopy,imaging,and the bacteriological and histological examination of tissue *** uncommon presentation of tuberculosis can be revealed as pancreatic mass mimicking ***-FNB can be very useful in providing a valuable histopathological diagnosis.A calcified lesion with a cheesy core in MOSE must be suggestive of tuberculosis,leading to the request of the GeneXpert,which can detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis deoxyribonucleic acid and resistance to rifampicin.A decent diagnostic strategy is crucial to prevent unnecessary surgical resection and to supply conservative management with antitubercular therapy.

Chronic Hepatitis C Viral(HCV)infection is a leading health problem worldwide and resulted in fibrotic scar formation,and finally *** contemporary therapies can partially reverse this destructive process,the rehabilitation is too slow and unsuitable for all chronic *** current study elucidates the mechanism of disease progression from early(F1)to moderate(F2,F3),and to severe fibrosis(F4)/cirrhosis in HCV genotype 3a infected patients to find out new candidates as potential disease progression markers and antiviral therapeutic agents.A total of 550 genes were found differentially regulated in the four fibrosis stages and grouped in 22 classes according to their biological *** set enrichment(GSEA)and Ingenuity pathway analysis(IPA)were used to identify the regulation of crucial biological functions and pathways involved in HCV *** differentially regulated the expression of genes involved in apoptosis,cell structure,signal transduction,proliferation,metabolism,cytokine signaling,immune response,cell adhesion and maintenance,and post translational modifications by pathway *** was an increasing trend of proliferative and cell growth related genes and shutting down of immune response as the disease progress mild to moderate to advanced stage *** myriad of changes in gene expression showed more chances of developing liver cancer in patients infected with HCV genotype 3a in a systematic *** identified gene set can act as disease markers for prediction,whether the fibrosis lead to cirrhosis and its association with end stage liver disease development.

In this paper,we investigate a stochastic vaccinated epidemic model with a general awareness-induced incidence perturbed by Levy ***,we show that this model has a unique global positive ***,we establish the dynamic behavior of the solution around both disease-free and endemic equilibrium ***,when R_(0)>1,we give sufficient conditions for the existence of an ergodic stationary distribution to the model when the jump part in the Levy noise is ***,we present some examples to illustrate the analytical results by numerical simulations.

The problem of the chattering phenomenon is still the main drawback of the classical sliding mode control. To resolve this problem, a discrete second order sliding mode control via input-output model is proposed in this paper. The proposed control law is synthesized for decouplable multivariable systems. A robustness analysis of the proposed discrete second order sliding mode control is carried out. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

The Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Clamart(FIVC)braced excavation in France is analyzed to provide insights into the geotechnical serviceability assessment of excavations at great depth within deterministic and probabilistic *** FIVC excavation is excavated at 32 m below the ground surface in Parisian sedimentary basin and a plane-strain finite element analysis is implemented to examine the wall deflections and ground surface settlements.A stochastic finite element method based on the polynomial chaos Kriging metamodel(MSFEM)is then proposed for the probabilistic *** with field measurements and former studies are carried *** academic cases are then conducted to investigate the great-depth excavation stability regarding the maximum horizontal wall deflection and maximum ground surface *** results indicate that the proposed MSFEM is effective for probabilistic analyses and can provide useful insights for the excavation design and construction.A sensitivity analysis for seven considered random parameters is then *** soil friction angle at the excavation bottom layer is the most significant one for *** soil-wall interaction effects on the excavation stability are also given.

In seeking to improve traffic congestion and safety on roads and highways,there has been an increased interest in intelligent transportation systems(ITS).The emerging visible light communication(VLC)technology is a new candidate to enable wireless access in *** purpose of this study is to present a comprehensive review of the current studies related to *** VLC facilitates illumination and data communication simultaneously,it reduces energy consumption ***,VLC is immune to electromagnetic interference,provides high data security,and utilizes unregulated visible light spectrum,showing promise as a potentially cheaper alternative to existing radio frequency(RF)based ***,recent advances in semiconductor materials and solid-state technologies have enabled the development of efficient light-emitting diodes(LEDs)and laser diodes(LDs)which are used as transmitters in a VLC *** 10 s of Gbits/s data rate has been demonstrated in indoor VLC links,successful implementation of it in outdoor environments requires further research to overcome the challenges presented by environmental factors,unwanted lights,non-line of sight communication,directional radiation pattern,frequent fragmentation,and so ***,in recent years,semiconductor LDs have been garnering more attention since they can transmit more data over longer distances due to their high quantum efficiency and modulation bandwidth compared to *** a result,urban planners,policy-makers,transportation engineers,and vehicle manufacturers are considering LD-based VLC to facilitate vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure ***,this paper reviews and compares the most recent developments in VLC technologies,identifies their benefits and potential use in ITS applications,discusses the probable barriers for their implementation in our existing transportation infrastructure,and suggests future research directions and recommendations to overcome

Elastic Optimization for Stragglers in Edge Federated Learning

To fully exploit enormous data generated by intelligent devices in edge computing,edge federated learning(EFL)is envisioned as a promising *** distributed collaborative training in EFL deals with delay and privacy issues compared to traditional centralized model ***,the existence of straggling devices,responding slow to servers,degrades model *** consider data heterogeneity from two aspects:high dimensional data generated at edge devices where the number of features is greater than that of observations and the heterogeneity caused by partial device *** large number of features,computation overhead on the devices increases,causing edge devices to become *** incorporation of partial training results causes gradients to be diverged which further exaggerates when more training is performed to reach local *** this paper,we introduce elastic optimization methods for stragglers due to data heterogeneity in edge federated ***,we define the problem of stragglers in ***,we formulate an optimization problem to be solved at edge *** customize a benchmark algorithm,FedAvg,to obtain a new elastic optimization algorithm(FedEN)which is applied in local training of edge *** mitigates stragglers by having a balance between lasso and ridge penalization thereby generating sparse model updates and enforcing parameters as close as to local *** have evaluated the proposed model on MNIST and CIFAR-10 *** experiments demonstrate that our approach improves run time training performance by achieving average accuracy with less communication *** results confirm the improved performance of our approach over benchmark algorithms.
