Genetic Variation for Biomass and Related Morphological Traits in Cup Plant (<i>Silphium perfoliatum</i>L.)

Cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum L.) has demonstrated potential for bioenergy production in North America, South America, and Europe. Our objectives were to: 1) determine genetic variation and narrow-sense heritability for biomass and related morphological traits, and 2) identify half-sib families with superior biomass yield and potential for use in cultivar development in cup plant. Thirty three half-sib families and a check were evaluated at two locations in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Annual biomass yield at Brookings ranged from 2183 kg·ha-1 in 2012 to 8053 kg·ha-1 in 2013;whereas, yields at Arlington were similar among years. Mean individual half-sib family biomass yield ranged from 3912 to 6784 kg·ha-1 at Brookings and from 5682 to 11,269 kg·ha-1 at Arlington. Heritability estimates for five biomass-related morphological traits ranged from 0.52 to 0.72. This cup plant population had potential for biomass production in the north central USA and contained sufficient additive genetic variation to expect progress from among-and-within-family selection for biomass yield and related traits.

Neuroendocrine tumors(NET)previously called carcinoid tumors are neoplasms of enterochromaffin/neuroendocrine cell origin which display neurosecretory capacity that may result in the carcinoid *** annual incidence of patients with NET is 8.4 per 100000;yet many NET remain asymptomatic and clinically undetected.A majority of NET follows a benign course;however,some will display malignant *** most commonly occur in the gastrointestinal tract(67%)and bronchopulmonary system(25%).Gastrointestinal NET occur within the stomach,small intestine,liver,and *** report a retrospective study of 11 subjects:Eight with benign carcinoid tumors:duodenal bulb(n=2),terminal ileum(n=1),sigmoid colon(n=2),and rectum(n=3);three with malignant carcinoid:liver(n=1)and intra-abdominal site(n=2).The diagnosis,endoscopic images,outcome,treatment and review of the literature are presented.

[1]We have conducted a multiparameter investigation of 15 loess-paleosol couplets (S0/L1 to S14/L15) from the jiaodao section in the central loess plateau of China using environmental magnetic approaches coupled with soil science *** magnetic parameters display systematic variations that seem to be closely related to paleoclimate variations and intensity of ***-temperature susceptibility curves of palcosols show a generally decreasing trend in reversibility from the base of the Lishi Formation to the Holocene black loam,possibly indicating a decrease in weathering *** may reflect a long-term increase in aridity and/or a general long-term cooling trend of the interior of the Asian continent from 1.2 Ma to the *** samples display wasp-waisted hysteresis *** are most pronounced in moderately enhanced paleosols,less pronounced in the practically unaltered loess,and subdued in the well-developed paleosols,but wasp waistedness reappears in the most developed *** wasp-waistedness sequence suggests that the composition,concentration,and grain size of magnetic minerals all contribute to the hysteresis behavior of samples from the studied loess-paleosol sequence,but each factor has a different effect at different stages of *** TERMS: 1540 Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism:Rock and mineral magnetism;1512 Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism:Environmental magnetism;1519 Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism:Magnetic mineralogy and petrology

Capacity Optimization Study of Chua Mini-Hydropower Plant at Chua River, Manica, Mozambique

Hydropower energy is one of most promising clean energy technologies, however this energy technology has many challenges. Compared with other renewable energies for example biomass, solar and wind energies, it has high capital investment cost. In Mozambique, access to conversional energy in form of electricity has been limited to most of the rural population. The objectives of the investigation research are to analyze Chua micro-hydropower plant exploration in Manica district in Mozambique and to examine the possibility of increasing energy production. The current total installed power generation capacity in Mozambique is about 939 MW. Hydropower contributes 561 MW, making a contribution of 61%. Oil contributes 27%, and natural gas contributes 12% of the total electric grid generation in Mozambique.

To extend the operation region of the joint-Texas Experimental tokamak(j-TEXT) to the divertor configuration and even the H-mode,the divertor configuration discharge has been realized for the first time in the j-TEXT *** with the establishment of a power supply for the divertor configuration,the construction of relevant diagnostics,and the installation of the divertor target on the high-field side,divertor discharge has been *** the equilibrium calculation and position stability analysis,the control strategy has evolved to be more ***-density experiments and auxiliary heating experiments have been carried out on the divertor *** special midplane single-null(MSN) divertor configuration is shown to be more stable than the limiter configuration in the density limit condition and can reach a higher density in the *** the ECRH experiment,the power injection enhances the electron temperature and density,while more heat outflux is loaded on the divertor target tiles and causes more intensive recycling and impurity *** future plan for the divertor configuration operation in the j-TEXT tokamak is also included.

对公共教育能否使年轻人充分准备好应对未来世界复杂需求的质疑已经浮现。正如这类质疑所表明的,传统教育结构--类似工业化生产--并不符合这些需求。维系这种生产模式的关键乃是评估方式,通常都是以对学生表现进行测试和评分的形式。因此,亟需一种更具前景的模式替代当下的生产模式,并对传统评估方法进行相应变革。为应对所面临的挑战,本文提出了“基于关系”的教育过程观,以及以关系性过程为中心的评价概念,继而重点关注一系列体现对话、欣赏等实质的相关评价方式。这些评价方式不仅适用于学生评价,也适用于教师评价和学校评价。与此同时,倡导在课程教学中突出对关系性行为的倚重。总之,关系性评价是教育转型的关键所在,而教育转型也有利于发展不断扩大的学习社区,以及有关自身利益的关系性福祉评价。

目的:评价骨质疏松肱骨骨折中Schuhli锁定螺母替代骨水泥增强钢板内固定稳定性的效果。方法:分别用Schuhli锁定螺母配标准螺钉和骨水泥加强螺钉对骨质疏松的肱骨干骨折模型行钢板内固定,在3种加载模式下测试其内固定的强度和稳定性,并与标准固定组进行对比。再在4.5N m扭矩下将肱骨干循环扭转1000次,在同样模式下测试内固定的强度和稳定性。结果:循环扭转前后,锁定螺母组和骨水泥加强组在扭转加载模式下的内固定稳定性均明显高于标准固定组(循环前高出6～14倍,循环后高出3～3.6倍);而两组组间比较,在各加载模式下的内固定稳定性差异均不明显(P>0.05)。在轴压和四点弯曲模式下,两组循环扭转前的内固定稳定性与标准固定组比较亦无明显差异(P>0.05)。结论:使用Schuhli锁定螺母可获得与骨水泥加强同样的稳定性,还可避免水泥外渗和骨质热坏死的发生而影响骨折的愈合。
