A high Performance Multifrontal Code for Linear solution of structures Using Multi-Core Microprocessors

A multifrontal code is introduced for the efficient solution of the linear system of equations arising from the analysis of structures. The factorization phase is reduced into a series of interleaved element assembly and dense matrix operations for which the BLAs3 kernels are used. A similar approach is generalized for the forward and back substitution phases for the efficient solution of structures having multiple load conditions. The program performs all assembly and solution steps in parallel. Examples are presented which demonstrate the code’s performance on single and dual core processor computers.

Exosome secretion from hypoxic cancer cells reshapes the tumor microenvironment and mediates drug resistance

hypoxia is a common phenomenon in solid tumors as the poorly organized tumor vasculature cannot fulfill the increasing oxygen demand of rapidly expanding *** hypoxia,tumor cells reshape their microenvironment to sustain survival,promote metastasis,and develop resistance to *** are extracellular vesicles secreted by most eukaryotic cells,including tumor *** are enriched with a selective collection of nucleic acids and proteins from the originating cells to mediate cell-to-cell *** evidence suggests that exosomes derived from tumor cells play critical roles in modulating the tumor microenvironment(TME).hypoxia is known to stimulate the secretion of exosomes from tumor cells,thereby promoting intercellular communication of hypoxic tumors with the surrounding stromal ***-mediated signaling pathways under hypoxic conditions have been reported to cause angiogenesis,invasion,metastasis,drug resistance,and immune ***,the programmed cell death ligand-1(PD-L1)has been reported to reside as a transmembrane protein in tumor *** PD-L1 was shown to suppress T cell effector function in the TME and cause drug resistance to immune checkpoint *** review provides an update about the pivotal role of tumor-derived exosomes in drug resistance to chemotherapy and immunotherapy,particularly under hypoxic *** strategies that target the exosomes in the hypoxic TME to enhance the antitumor efficacy are discussed.

Coherent Raman scattering(CRs)microscopy is widely recognized as a powerful tool for tackling biomedical problems based on its chemically specific label-free contrast,high spatial and spectral resolution,and high ***,the clinical translation of CRs imaging technologies has long been hindered by traditional solid-state lasers with environmentally sensitive operations and large *** fibre lasers can potentially overcome these shortcomings but have not yet been fully exploited for CRs imaging,as previous implementations have suffered from high intensity noise,a narrow tuning range and low power,resulting in low image qualities and slow imaging ***,we present a novel high-power self-synchronized two-colour pulsed fibre laser that achieves excellent performance in terms of intensity stability(improved by 50 dB),timing jitter(24.3 fs),average power fluctuation(h(>20 dB)and pulse width variation(he versatility of the laser source enables,for the first time,high-contrast,fast CRs imaging without complicated noise reduction via balanced detection *** capabilities are demonstrated in this work by imaging a wide range of species such as living human cells and mouse arterial tissues and performing multimodal nonlinear imaging of mouse tail,kidney and brain tissue sections by utilizing second-harmonic generation and twophoton excited fluorescence,which provides multiple optical contrast mechanisms simultaneously and maximizes the gathered information content for biological visualization and medical *** work also establishes a general scenario for remodelling existing lasers into synchronized two-colour lasers and thus promotes a wider popularization and application of CRs imaging technologies.

storage and repair bandwidth tradeoff for heterogeneous cluster distributed storage systems

The storage and repair bandwidth tradeoff is an important issue in distributed storage systems(Dsss) where large scale data are stored in multiple nodes with erasure coding to ensure reliability. There are lots of studies on the Dss model with multiple clusters where the repair bandwidths from intra-cluster and cross-cluster nodes are differentiated to improve repair efficiency based on the realistic network topological structures. At the same time, separate nodes are also prevalent due to the variety of practical networks, but the work on the cluster Dss model with multiple separate nodes is insufficient, which is a main motivation of this paper. We formulate the tradeoff bound between storage repair bandwidth for a heterogeneous Dss model consisting of clusters and separate nodes by analyzing the min-cuts of heterogeneous information flow graphs corresponding to the orders of failed nodes. Additionally, the tradeoff bounds are investigated in multiple aspects when the repair bandwidth constraints and the amount of separate nodes vary, ***, a class of regenerating codes are illustrated to achieve the tradeoff in the heterogeneous cases.

This study evaluated uranium sequestration performance in iron-rich (30 g/kg) sediment via bioreduction followed by *** tests (1383 days) at Oak Ridge,Tennessee demonstrated that uranium contents in sediments increased after bioreduced sediments were re-exposed to nitrate and oxygen in contaminated *** of contaminated sediments (1200 mg/kg U) with ethanol in microcosm reduced aqueous U from 0.37 to 0.023 mg/*** of the bioreduced sediment were reoxidized with O2,h2O2,and NaNO3,respectively,over 285 days,resulting in aqueous U of 0.024,1.58 and 14.4 mg/L at ph 6.30,6.63 and 7.62,*** source-and the three reoxidized sediments showed different desorption and adsorption behaviors of U,but all fit a Freundlich *** adsorption capacities increased sharply at ph 4.5 to 5.5,plateaued at ph 5.5 to 7.0,then decreased sharply as ph increased from 7.0 to *** O2-reoxidized sediment retained a lower desorption efficiency at ph over *** NO3--reoxidized sediment exhibited higher adsorption capacity at ph 5.5 to *** ph-dependent adsorption onto Fe(Ⅲ) oxides and formation of U coated particles and precipitates resulted in U sequestration,and bioreduction followed by reoxidation can enhance the U sequestration in sediment.

The outbreak of coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19),a new disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs-CoV-2)in December 2019 affected most countries in the world within just a few *** March 11,2020,the Director-General at the World health Organization(WhO)declared that COVID-19 can be considered a pandemic,and as of January 11,2021,there were over 88.8 million cases of COVID-19 worldwide and 1.9 million deaths reported by *** order to prevent the further spread of this epidemic outbreak,measures such as social distancing,stay-at-home orders,and school closure were executed in many ***,these measures also greatly reduced the opportunities for physical activity among *** on past experience,there are indications that an increased rate of weight gain occurs during summer school vacation for overweight ***,it is reasonable to speculate that under the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic,long-term school closures may significantly increase the risk of weight gain in obese *** children with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD),formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,weight reduction through lifestyle changes(caloric restriction and physical activity)is considered as the first step in reversing disease progression,which makes managing MAFLD in children quite difficult during the ongoing COVID-19 *** addition,several studies found a significant correlation between a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and metabolic disorders(***,obesity,MAFLD).
