Adolescence and the journey to adulthood involves exciting opportunities as well as psychosocial stress for young people growing *** normal experiences are potentially magnified for teenagers living with chronic illness or disability and their *** in care have improved survival for children with a variety of serious chronic medical conditions such that many who may once have died in childhood now survive well into adulthood with ongoing *** those with highly complex needs,care is often provided at major paediatric hospitals with expertise,specially trained personnel,and resources to support young people and their families for the first decades of *** the end of adolescence,however,it is generally appropriate and necessary for young adults and their caregivers to transition to the care of clinicians trained in the care of adults at general *** there are some well-managed models to support this journey of transition,these are often specific to certain conditions and usually do not involve intensive *** patients may encounter considerable challenges during this *** may include the loss of established therapeutic relationships,a perception of austerity and reduced amenity in facilities oriented to caring for adult patients,and care by clinicians with less experience with more common paediatric *** addition,there is a risk of potential conflict between clinicians and families regarding goals of care in the event of a critical illness when it occurs in a young adult with major disability and long-term health *** challenges present genuine opportunities to better understand the transition from paediatric to adult-based care and to improve processes that assist clinicians who support patients and families as they shift between healthcare settings.

Plastic pollution has become a global environmental issue,posing notable threats to ecosystems and human health. Plastic aging is a continuous dynamic process,during which plastics of various sizes are produced and exist,such as large plastics,microplastics,and nanoplastics. Regardless of the size,plastics continuously fragment and release plastic additives and other soluble products. Moreover,due to the same molecular composition,the aging mechanisms and characteristics of micro and nanoplastics are similar to those of macroplastics. However,the smaller the particle size,the greater the potential harm. To enhance understanding of the environmental effects of plastics,this review focused on the entire dynamic process from the initial form of plastics to their degradation and summarized the aging mechanisms involved,changes in properties,and the products released during this process. These products include macroplastics,micro and nanoplastics,plastic additives,and other soluble substances. The paper also summarized relevant studies and main conclusions on plastic aging experiments,further exploring factors that influence the leaching of plastic additives and the release of micro and nanoplastic particles. Finally,it provided a summary of the environmental hazards that were caused by plastic aging products. © 2025 Science Press. All rights reserved.

Parenting preschoolers with autism: Socioeconomic influences on wellbeing and sense of competence

BACKGROUND Previous research suggests that parents raising a child with autism experience higher levels of psychological distress than parents of typically developing children and parents of children with other developmental disorders. Little is known, however, about the intersection between the effects of socioeconomic status(SeS) on the wellbeing and sense of parental competency of parents of preschoolers with autism and how it relates to child symptom *** To examine the relationship between their child's symptom severity, SeS, as measured by neighbourhood advantage and occupational status, on the psychological wellbeing and perceived parenting competence among parents of preschoolers with *** Parents of 117 preschool-aged children with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder(ASD), 107 mothers and 54 fathers, completed questionnaires about their child's symptoms of ASD and functioning, their own perceptions of their wellbeing and parental competence on entry to an early intervention program in Sydney, Australia. Parents also provided demographic information pertaining to their occupation, level of education attained and address(postcode). All children were also assessed for their severity of symptoms using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule. The Australian Socioeconomic Index of occupationalstatus as a measure of familial SeS and the Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage as a measure of neighbourhood advantage were used to examine the impact of SeS on parental sense of competence and *** Compared to normative populations, both mothers and fathers in our sample reported significantly higher levels of parenting sense of efficacy but lower levels of interest in the parenting role. Precipitation comes in various phases, including rainfall, snowfall, sleet, and hail. Shifts of precipitation phases, as well as changes in precipitation amount, intensity, and frequency, have significant impacts on regional climate, hydrology,ecology, and the energy balance of the land-atmosphere system. Over the past century, certain progress has been achieved in aspects such as the observation, discrimination, transformation, and impact of precipitation phases. Mainly including: since the1980s, studies on the observation, formation mechanism, and prediction of precipitation phases have gradually received greater attention and reached a certain scale. The estimation of different precipitation phases using new detection theories and methods has become a research focus. Avariety of discrimination methods or schemes, such as the potential thickness threshold method of the air layer, the temperature threshold method of the characteristic layer, and the near-surface air temperature threshold method,have emerged one after another. Meanwhile, comparative studies on the discrimination accuracy and applicability assessment of multiple methods or schemes have also been carried out simultaneously. In recent years, the shift of precipitation from solid to liquid(SPSL) in the mid-to-high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere has become more pronounced due to global warming and human activities. It leads to an increase in rain-on-snow(ROS) events and avalanche disasters, affecting the speed, intensity, and duration of spring snow-melting, accelerating sea ice and glacier melting, releasing carbon from permafrost, altering soil moisture, productivity, and phenological characteristics of ecosystems, and thereby affecting their structures, processes, qualities, and service functions. This study sheds light on a poorly understood area in insect-plant-microbe interactions,focusing on aphid probing and feeding behavior on plants with varying levels of arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)fungus root *** investigates a commonly occurring interaction of three species:pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum,barrel medic Medicago truncatula,and the AM fungus Rhizophagus irregularis,examining whether aphid-feeding behavior changes when insects feed on plants at different levels of AM fungus colonization(42% and 84% root length colonized).Aphid probing and feeding behavior was monitored throughout 8 h of recording using the electrical penetration graph(ePG)technique,also,foliar nutrient content and plant growth were ***,aphids took longer to reach their 1st sustained phloem ingestion on the 84% AM plants than on the 42% AM plants or on *** aphids showed phloem ingestion on the 84% AM plants relative to the 42% AM *** of the 84% AM plants had higher percent carbon(43.7%)relative to controls(40.5%),and the 84% AM plants had reduced percent nitrogen(5.3%)relative to the 42% AM plants(6%).In conclusion,ePG and foliar nutrient data support the hypothesis that modifications in plant anatomy(e.g.,thicker leaves),and poor food quality(reduced nitrogen)in the 84% AM plants contribute to reduced aphid success in locating phloem and ultimately to differences in phloem sap *** work suggests that *** plants benefit from AM symbiosis not only because of increased nutrient uptake but also because of reduced susceptibility to aphids.

High phosphorus(P)saturation arising from historic P inputs to protected vegetable fields(PVFs)drives high P mobilisation to *** of soils with alum has shown potential in terms of fixing labile P and protecting water *** present 15 month pot experiment investigated P stabilisation across single alum application(Alum-1 treatment,20 g alum/kg soil incorporated into soil before the maize was sown),alum split applications(Alum-4 treatment,5 g alum/kg soil incorporated into soil before each crop was sown i.e.4×5 g/kg)and soil only treatment(Control).Results showed that the Alum-1 treatment caused the strongest stabilisation of soil labile P after maize plant removal,whereas the P stabilisation effect was gradually weakened due to the transformation of soil non-labile P to labile P and the reduced active Al^(3+)in soil *** the Alum-4 treatment,soil labile P decreased gradually with each crop planting and was lower than the Alum-1 treatment at the end of the final crop removal,without any impairment on plant *** better P stabilisation at the end of Alum-4 treatment was closely correlated with a progressive supply of Al^(3+)and a gradual decrease of pH,which resulted in higher contents of poorlycrystalline Al,Fe and exchangeable *** aspects were conducive to increasing the soil P stabilisation and phosphate *** terms of management,growers in continuous cropping systems could utilise split alum applications as a strategy to alleviate P losses in high-P enriched calcareous soil.

Adaptation allows organisms to maintain a constant internal environment,which is optimised for *** unfolded protein response(UPR)is an example of a feedback loop that maintains endoplasmic reticulum(eR)homeostasis,and is characteristic of how adaptation is often mediated by transcriptional *** more recent discovery of asymmetric division in maintaining eR homeostasis,however,is an example of how alternative non-transcriptional pathways can exist,but are overlooked by gold standard transcriptomic or proteomic population-based *** this study,we have used a combination of fluorescent reporters,flow cytometry and mathematical modelling to explore the relative roles of asymmetric cell division and the UPR in maintaining eR *** low eR stress,asymmetric division leaves daughter cells with an eR deficiency,necessitating activation of the UPR and prolonged cell cycle during which they can recover eR functionality before *** analysis of and simulation results from our mathematical model reinforce the experimental observations that low eR stress primarily impacts the growth rate of the daughter *** results demonstrate the interplay between homeostatic pathways and the importance of exploring sub-population dynamics to understand population adaptation to quantitatively different stresses.
