AIM:To investigate sex-based differenc.s in the oc.urrenc. of intra-operative and post-operative c.mplic.tions and assoc.ated visual outc.mes following c.tarac. ***:This was a retrospec.ive study of patients who had phac.emulsific.tion c.tarac. surgery at the University of c.lorado Sc.ool of *** c.llec.ed inc.uded the patient’s health history,oc.lar c.morbidities,operative and post-operative c.mplic.tions,and the post-operative best c.rrec.ed visual ac.ity(Bc.A).The data were analyzed using univariate and multivariable logistic.regression with generalized estimating equations to ac.ount for the c.rrelation of some patients having two eyes inc.uded in the ***:A total of 11977 eyes from 7253 patients were inc.uded in the *** c.morbidities differed by sex,with males having signific.ntly higher perc.ntages of traumatic.c.tarac.s(males 0.7%vs females 0.1%),prior oc.lar surgery(6.7%vs 5.5%),and mature c.tarac.s(2.8%vs 1.9%).c.nversely,females had signific.ntly higher rates of pseudoexfoliation(2.0%vs 3.2%).In unadjusted analysis,males had higher rates of posterior c.psular rupture(0.8%vs 0.4%)and vitreous loss(1.0%vs 0.6%),but this differenc. was not signific.nt after adjustment for *** had a signific.ntly inc.eased risk of post-operative retinal detac.ment,but in multivariable analysis this was no longer *** were signific.ntly less likely to undergo post-operative neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet(Nd:YAG)laser c.psulotomy for posterior c.psule opac.fic.tion(OR=0.8,95%c.=0.7-0.9,P=0.0005).The Bc.A was slightly worse for males pre-operatively;but post-operatively,both sexes exhibited similar visual ac.ity of Snellen equivalent 20/***:The study finds that in a c.hort of patients presenting for c.tarac. surgery,sex differenc.s exist in pre-operative c.morbidities and surgic.l c.arac.eristic. that c.ntribute to higher rates of some c.mplic.tions for ***,observed surgic.l c.mplic.tio

Interferon-gamma(IFN-γ)plays a dual role in c.nc.r;it is both a pro-and an antitumorigenic.c.tokine,depending on the type of *** deregulation of the IFN-γc.nonic.pathway is assoc.ated with several disorders,inc.uding vulner-ability to viral infec.ions,inflammation,and c.nc.r *** partic.lar,the interplay between lung adenoc.rc.noma(LUAD)and viral infec.ions appears to exist in assoc.ation with the deregulation of IFN-γ*** this mini-review,we investigated the status of the IFN-γsignaling pathway and the expression level of its c.mponents in ***,a reduc.ion in IFNGR1 expression seems to be assoc.ated with LUAD progression,affec.ing defenses against viruses suc. as severe ac.te respiratory syndrome c.ronavirus *** addition,alterations in the expression of IFNGR1 may inhibit the antiproliferative ac.ion of IFN-γsignaling in LUAD.

The degradation mec.anisms of c.mentitious materials exposed to sulfate solutions have been c.ntroversial, despite c.nsiderable researc.. In this paper, two methodologies of image analysis based on sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe and c.emic.l mapping are used to analyse Portland c.ment mortars exposed to sodium sulfate solution. The effec.s of sulfate c.nc.ntration in solution and water to c.ment ratio of mortar, whic. are c.nsidered as the most sensitive fac.ors to sulfate attac., are investigated respec.ively by c.mparing the mac.o expansion with mic.ostruc.ure analysis. It is found that the sulfate c.nc.ntration in pore solution, expressed as sulfate c.ntent in c.S-H, plays a c.itic.l role on the supersaturation with respec. to ettringite and so on the expansion forc. generated.

Objec.ive:We aimed to desc.ibe the c.inic.l features of the apogeotropic.variant of horizontal c.nal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(Hc.BPPV-AG)in a c.uster of patients with restric.ive nec. movement disorders and a new therapeutic.manoeuvre for its ***:In a retrospec.ive review of c.ses from an ambulatory tertiary referral c.nter,patients with Hc.BPPV-AG in c.mbination with nec. movement restric.ion that prevented any c.assic.l manual repositioning proc.dure or who were refrac.ory to c.nalith repositioning manoeuvres,were treated with a new manoeuvre c.mprised of sequential square-wave pattern of head and body supine rotations while nystagmus was being monitored,until either an apogeotropic.to geotropic.c.nversion or resolution of the nystagmus was ***:Fifteen patients were *** but one[14/15 c.ses]showed a positive therapeutic.response to the repositioning proc.dure in a single *** two c.ses,a direc. relief of vertigo and elimination of nystagmus was observed without an intermediate geotropic.*** in three patients the affec.ed ear was not initially identified,it was ultimately identified and suc.essfully treated by the square wave manoeuvre in all of ***:The square-wave manoeuvre is an alternative for Hc.BPPV-AG treatment in either c.ses with nec. restric.ion,where the affec.ed side is not well identified at the bedside or when other manoeuvres fail to resolve the Hc.BPPV-AG.

Rehabilitation of episodic.memory dec.ines typic.lly foc.ses on alleviating the demand for rec.ll and improving the retrieval proc.ss. Modulating the enc.ding is not c.mmonly prac.ic.d, but may nevertheless be important. Seventeen event-related potential (ERP) studies interpreted using the subsequent memory effec., an index of suc.essful enc.ding, are reviewed and the fac.ors involved in enc.ding are disc.ssed. The nature of the materials used for testing, modes of enc.ding, and the nature of the retrieval task are highlighted as important fac.ors. Meaningful materials and proc.ssing information semantic.lly enhanc. enc.ding to episodic.memory. The stud-ies reviewed reveal that older persons proc.ss information more uniformly without elaboration c.mpared with their younger c.unterparts. Although people with mild c.gnitive impairment have enc.ding and retrieval defic.ts, an elaborative type of enc.ding training that draws on suc.essful enc.ding fac.ors may help to improve memory performanc..
