In this paper,we mainly study the time-space fractional strain wave equation in microstructured ***’s variational method,combined with the two-scale transform are implemented to seek the solitary and periodic wave solutions of the time-space strain wave *** main advantage of the variational method is that it can reduce the order of the differential equation,thus simplifying the equation,making the solving process more intuitive and avoiding the tedious solving ***,the numerical results are shown in the form of 3D and 2D graphs to prove the applicability and effectiveness of the *** obtained results in this work are expected to shed a bright light on the study of fractional nonlinear partial differential equations in physics.

The aim of this paper is to study the unsteady korteweg-de vries equation that plays an important role in describing the shallow *** analytical techniques namely the Sardar-subequation method and the energy balance method are employed to seek the abundant traveling wave solutions for the first *** these two methods,plenty of traveling wave solutions such as the bright solitary wave solutions,dark solitary wave solutions,singular periodic wave solutions and perfect periodic wave solution that expressed in terms of the generalized hyperbolic functions,generalized trigonometric functions and the cosine function are ***,the dynamic behaviors of the solutions are described through the 3D plot and 2D *** results in this paper demonstrate that the proposed methods are powerful and effective to construct the traveling wave solutions of the nonlinear evolution equations in ocean engineering and science.

AIM: To investigate the predictability of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation using the IOLMaster and different IOL power calculation formulas in eyes with various axial length (AL). METHODS: Patients were included who underwent uneventful phacoemulsification with IOL implantation in the Department of Ophthalmology, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan, China from February 2007 to January 2009. Preoperative AL and keratometric values (Ks) were measured by IOLMaster optical biometry. Patients were divided into 3 groups based on AL less than 22mm (Group 1), 22-26mm (Group 2), and more than 26mm (Group 3). The power of the implanted IOL was used to calculate the predicted postoperative spherical equivalence (SE) by various formulas: the Haigis, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1, and SRK/T. The predictive accuracy of each formula was analyzed by comparing the difference between the actual and predicted postoperative SE (MedAE, median absolute error). All the patients had follow-up periods exceeding 3 months. RESULTS: Totally, there were 200 eyes (33 eyes in Group 1, 92 eyes in Group 2, 75 eyes in Group 3). In all patients, the Haigis had the significantly lower MedAE generated by the other formulas (P<0.05). In Group 1 to 3, the MedAE calculated by the Haigis was either significantly lower or comparable to those calculated by the other ***: Compared with other formulas using IOLMaster biometric data, the Haigis formula yields superior refractive results in eyes with various AL.

We reviewed randomized controlled trials associated with the intravitreal use of aflibercept for this article. These studies proved that aflibercept is an effective anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV), diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion. The incidence of severe ocular or systemic complications after intravitreal administration of aflibercept was low.

Diabetic macular edema(DME) is a major sight-threatening cause in diabetic patients. We review the long-term outcome of four approved pharmacotherapy for treating DME, including intravitreal injections of corticosteroids(dexamethasone implants and fluocinolone acetonide inserts) and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)(ranibizumab and aflibercept). They all show superior ability to improve vision and reduce macular thickness, comparing with sham injections or macular focal/grid laser treatment. Anti-VEGF agents result in low incidence of severe ocular or systemic adverse effects, but glaucoma and cataract should be aware after intravitreal corticosteroids. Prompt treatment with these agents can lead to a better outcome.

There are three approved pharmacotherapies for treating macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO), including corticosteroids(dexamethasone implants) and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)(ranibizumab and aflibercept). They all show superior ability to improve vision and reduce macular thickness, comparing with sham injections or macular grid laser treatment. There is no severe ocular or systemic adverse reaction reported in studies associated with anti-VEGF for macular edema after BRVO. Intraocular pressure elevation and cataract aggravation should be addressed after intravitreal dexamethasone implants. Single intravitreal dexamethasone implant had effective duration as long as four to six months. Intravitreal anti-VEGF requires six monthly injections as loading doses, and then PRN regimen needed according to functional and anatomical changes. Ozurdex and ranibizumab reduce not only macular edema, but also the probability of retinal ischemia and neovascularization in patient s with BRVO. Prompt treatment with these agents can lead to a better outcome.

Purpose:.Cholesterol granuloma is usually associated with chronic middle ear disease..Involvement of the ethmoid sinus by cholesterol granuloma is rare..We describe a case with cholesterol granuloma of the posterior ethmoid sinus causing optic nerve compression..No previous reports were found in our review of the *** report:.A 48-year-old man had impaired visual acuity and a relative afferent pupillary defect in the right eye. Fundus fluorescein angiography showed a swollen optic nerve head and optic disc leakage. Automated perimetry revealed a severe peripheral visual field defect with tunnel vision. Computerized tomography demonstrated an expansile,.isodense mass in the right posterior ethmoid sinus, remodeling of the bony walls of the right sphenoid sinus, and lateral displacement of the optic nerve in the right orbit..Compressive optic neuropathy caused by posterior ethmoid sinus lesion was diagnosed..A transnasal endoscopic exploration of the right ethmoid sinuses demonstrated a soft expansile cystic lesion with a thick yellow cap sule that filled the inside of the posterior ethmoid *** fluid with shiny crystals was drained by fine needle aspiration. The capsule was removed completely, and the mucociliary clearance of the sinus was reestablished..The pathologic pictures confirmed the diagnosis of cholesterol granuloma, which included typical cholesterol clefts surrounded by inflammatory cells with focal multi-nucleated giant cells. Visual function fully recovered without recurrent lesions after a three-year ***:.Compressive optic neuropathy can be rarely caused by cholesterol granuloma in the posterior ethmoid sinus. The visual prognosis may be good after transnasal endoscopic decompression in such patients.

Factors Affecting Corneal Hysteresis in Taiwan Residents Adults

Purpose: To investigate the correlation of various corneal hysteresis(CH) factors in Chinese ***: From January 2009 to November 2011, the healthy right eyes of a total of 292 adults were recruited into the study. Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure(IOPG) and CH were measured using an ocular response analyzer(ORA).Central corneal thickness was measured using the ORA's integrated handheld ultrasonic pachymeter. The IOLMaster was used to obtain the ocular biometric measurements including axial length, anterior chamber depth, and keratometric *** Pearson correlation coefficient was used to test correlations between CH and quantitative factors. The chi-square test was used to detect differences in categorical ***: Longer axial length(P =0.0001), lower IOPG(P =0.03), older age(P=0.003),and thinner central corneal thickness(P=0.0001) were significantly associated with lower *** anterior chamber depth(P=0.34), gender(P =0.23), and corneal curvature(P=0.18) had no relationship to ***: Various factors including axial length, intraocular pressure, age, and central corneal thickness can affect measurement of corneal biomechanical properties in Chinese *** the anterior chamber depth, gender, and corneal curvature were irrelevant to CH.

Myopic choroidal neovascularization(mCNV) can cause severe visual impairment in highly myopic patients. We review the randomized trials of two approved pharmacotherapy for treating mCNV, including intravitreal injections of ranibizumab and aflibercept. These two vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) antagonists show superior ability to improve vision and reduce macular thickness, comparing with sham injections or verteporfin photodynamic therapy(vPDT). There is no severe ocular or systemic adverse reaction reported in studies associated with ranibizumab and aflibercept for mCNV. Prompt treatment with these agents can lead to a better outcome.

The purpose of this article is to report a case with rubeosis iridis treated by intravitreal aflibercept. A 61-year-old man had iris neovascularization and scanty vitreous hemorrhage secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy in the right eye. Neither neovascularization of angle nor elevation of intraocular pressure was found. Single intravitreal al ibercept 2 mg injection was performed. Rubeosis iridis disappeared on the next day. Scattered retinal laser photocoagulation was added 1 week later. There was no recurrence after 3-month follow-up. Aflibercept may serve as another anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF) for treating rubeosis iridis.
