We report the preparation of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene)(PEdot)-modified polyvinylidene fluoride electrospun fibers and their use as a novel adsorbent material for the removal of the anionic dye Methyl orange(Mo)from aqueous *** novel adsorbent material can be used to selectively remove Mo on a wide p H range(3.0-10.0),with a maximum capacity of 143.8 mg/g at p H *** used in a recirculating filtration system,the maximum absorption capacity was reached in a shorter time(20 min)than that observed for batch mode experiments(360 min).Based on the analyses of the kinetics and adsorption isotherm data,one can conclude that the predominant mechanism of interaction between the membrane and the dissolved dye molecules is ***,considering the estimated values for the Gibbs energy,and entropy and enthalpy changes,it was established that the adsorption process is spontaneous and occurs in an endothermic *** good mechanical and environmental stability of these membranes allowed their use in at least 20 consecutive adsorption/desorption cycles,without significant loss of their *** suggest that the physical-chemical characteristics of PEdot make these hybrid mats a promising adsorbent material for use in water remediation protocols and effluent treatment systems.

the treatment of wastewaters is crucial to maintain the ecological status of receiving waters,and thereby guarantee the protection of aquatic life and human *** quality evaluation is conventionally based on physicochemical parameters,but increasing attention has been paid to integrate physicochemical and biological ***,the regulatory use of fish in biological testing methods has been subject to various ethical and cost concerns,and in vitro cell-based assays have thus become an important topic of ***,the present study intends:(a) to evaluate the efficiency of two different sample pre-concentration techniques (lyophilisation and solid phase extraction) to assess the toxicity of municipal effluents on rat cardiomyoblast H9c2(2-1) cells,and (b) maximizing the use of the effluent sample collected,to estimate the environmental condition of the receiving *** gathered results demonstrate that the H9c2(2-1) sulforhodamine B-based assay is an appropriate in vitro method to assess biological effluent toxicity,and the best results were attained by lyophilising the sample as *** to its response,the H9c2(2-1) cell line might be a possible alternative in vitro model for fish lethal testing to assess the toxicity of municipal *** physicochemical status of the sample suggests a high potential for eutrophication,and iron exceeded the permissible level for wastewater discharge,possibly due to the addition of ferric chloride for wastewater *** general,the levels of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole are higher than those reported for other countries,and both surpassed the aquatic protective values for long-term exposure.

the use of natural lignocellulosic fibers(NLFs)as a reinforcement mechanism for cementitious composites,such as mortar,has been investigated in the last ***,their application has often been restricted to technological evaluation research.A NLF with great potential the curaua,which after treatment with NaoH solution,proved to be technologically feasible for mortars reinforcement based on cement and *** objective of this research was the comparative evaluation between a traditional mortar,based on cement and lime,with 1:1:6:0.8 ratio of cement:lime:sand:water,and a modified mortar with addition of 2 wt.%treated curaua fiber in cement mass by evaluating environmental and durability *** a curing time for 28 days,environmental assessments were carried out and durability methodologies were *** tests performed were:(i)attack by chlorides and sulfate,(ii)the wetting and drying cycles,and(iii)slake durability *** results showed that the mortar with the addition of curaua fiber presented a similar behavior to the reference mixture,both in terms of environmental and durability *** modified mortar is able to be used in internal and external environments,the latter with some ***,it also contributes to the promotion of sustainable use of curaua fiber.

the parallel coordinate plot is proposed as an efficient tool for visualization of 13 traits of ＂stay-green＂ maize（Zea mays L.） cultivar exposed to different methods of magnesium application. the field experiment was conducted in the Department of Agronomy, Poznań University of Life Sciences, on the fields of the Department of teaching and Experimental Station in Swadzim in 2006–2008. Experiment was conducted as a single-factor experiment with seven applications of magnesium in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. the highest mean values of grain yield and 1 000-grain weight were obtained after application of variant t3 of magnesium（10 kg Mgo ha^–1 soil） in the all three years of study.

African mahogany,Khaya grandifoliola ***.,is the most planted mahogany species in Brazil,and became the choice species when plantations of Brazilian mahogany,Swietenia macrophyla King became unsustainable due to their susceptibility to the shoot borer Hypsipyla grandella *** study evaluated plantation growth and the occurrence of cankers associated with Ectomyelois muriscis Dyar *** recorded plantation volume,survival,and canker incidence of a plantation established in 2010 at 6 m×5.5 m *** were collected and reared on canker bark fragments until final adult *** were frequently associated with Ectomyelois muriscis *** average incidence of the moth(2.9%)was not a significant concern,however,an extreme incidence of 45%would indicate that management strategies should be *** is the first report of Ectomyelois muriscis attacking the bark of Khaya grandifoliola in the Cerrado biome.

BACKGRoUND toll-like receptor-2(tLR2) is responsible for recognizing Helicobacter pylori(***) and activating the immune response. Polymorphisms in tLR2 may modulate gastric *** to evaluate whether the tLR2 19216 t/C(rs3804099) and tLR2-196 to-174 ins/del(rs111200466) polymorphisms contribute to gastric carcinogenesis in the Brazilian population, and to determine the influence of both polymorphisms and H. pylori infection on tLR2 mRNA *** DNA was extracted from 854 peripheral blood leukocyte or gastric tissue samples[202 gastric cancer(GC), 269 chronic gastritis(CG), and 383 control/healthy(C)]and genotyped by allele-specific PCR or restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)-PCR. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction by taq Man■ assay was used to quantify tLR2 mRNA levels in fresh gastric tissues(48 GC, 36 CG, and 14 C).RESULtS Regarding the tLR2-196 to -174 polymorphism, the ins/del and del/del genotypes were associated with a higher risk of GC by comparison with the C in all of the analyzed inheritance models(codominant, dominant, recessive, overdominant and log-additive;P observed when comparing the GC and CG groups [codominant(P dominant(P overdominant(P og-additive(P ontrast, tLR2 19216 t/C was associated with a protective effect in the GC group compared to the C group [dominant(P = 0.0420) and log-additive(P =0.0300)]. Background: Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder with a complex genetic factor determining its disease onset. Nevertheless, it is not clear in this mental disorder. objective: to conduct a systematic review of articles regarding the genetic markers and mutations in schizophrenia. Methods: A systematic review of articles on genetic markers and mutations in schizophrenia, published from January 1, 2011, to September 7, 2015, on SCoPUS database was carried out. Search terms were “Genetic markers”, “Mutation”, and “Schizophrenia”. Results: of the 527 retrieved studies, 31 met the eligibility criteria. Genetic polymorphism, Immune-associated genes, tCF4 and ZNF804A association with microRNA, Neuregulin gene, Chromosome 13q32 and 11p15.4, genes involved in glutamatergic via schizophrenia and brain structure, appeared to be associated with the origin of schizophrenia. Conclusion: Some studies show genes involved in several pathways leading to the disease pathogenesis such as that one related with the dopaminergic and immune system, or rare alleles. Some genes present no involvement in the etiology of this mental disorder. these findings clarify the genetic complexity of schizophrenia and affirm that together, the genes have an overall effect greater than the sum of the individual effect of each gene.

Hormonal modulation of reproduction and fertility signaling in polistine wasps

In social insects,it has been suggested that reproduction and the production of particular fertilitylinked cuticular hydrocarbons(CHC)may be under shared juvenile hormone(JH)control,and this could have been key in predisposing such cues to later evolve into full-fledged queen pheromone ***,to date,only few studies have experimentally tested this“hormonal pleiotropy”***,we formally test this hypothesis using data from four species of Polistine wasps,Polistes dominula,Polistes satan,Mischocyttarus metathoracicus,and Mischocyttarus cassununga,and experimental treatments with JH using the JH analogue methoprene and the anti-JH *** line with reproduction being under JH control,our results show that across these four species,precocene significantly decreased ovary development when compared with both the acetone solvent-only control and the methoprene *** with the hormonal pleiotropy hypothesis,these effects on reproduction were further matched by subtle shifts in the CHC profiles,with univariate analyses showing that in *** and *** the abundance of particular linear alkanes and mono-methylated alkanes were affected by ovary development and our hormonal *** results indicate that in primitively eusocial wasps,and particularly in Polistes,reproduction and the production of some CHC cues are under joint JH *** suggest that pleiotropic links between reproduction and the production of such hydrocarbon cues have been key enablers for the origin of true fertility and queen signals in more derived,advanced eusocial insects.

Brain modulation for chronic temporomandibular disorders

BACKGRoUND AND oBJECtIVE temporomandibular disorders (tMD) often result in pain and masticatory dysfunction, despite a range of treatments. As several studies have shown that stimulation of the primary motor cortex can provide analgesia in patients with refractory central pain, this study assessed the effect of high definition transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in patients with pain-related *** Subjects were 24 female adults with chronic myofascial tMD pain, all with daily, chronic pain and dysfunction for at least one year. Pain was measured with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Short Form of the McGill Pain Questionnaire and Pain trek, as well as pain-free mouth opening. All subjects underwent 20-minute sessions of active or sham 2 mA HD-tDCS at the M1 stimulation area, five times per day. the primary outcome measure was a pain VAS decrease of 50% or greater from week one to week *** At week six, nine of 13 in the active group and three of 11 in the sham group achieved a greater than 50% decrease in VAS pain (P=0.04). there was a significant difference in the change in pain free opening of the mouth from week one to week three (Pt not at week six (P=0.24).CoNCLUSIoN this study of female patients with chronic temporomandibular disorders found that high definition transcranial direct current stimulation can produce meaningful, long-term pain relief.

Microstructural evolution during unsteady-state horizontal solidification of Al-Si-Mg(356) alloy

the increasing demand for reducing vehicle weight in the automotive and aerospace industries has raised the need to develop improved structural aluminum-based alloys. thus, horizontal solidification experiment with the Al-7%Si-0.3%Mg（mass fraction） alloy was carried out. A water-cooled horizontal directional solidification device was developed and used. Microstructural characterization was carried out using traditional techniques of metallography, optical microscopy and SEM microscopy. the thermo-Calc software was used to generate the solidification path of the investigated alloy with addition of 0.17% Fe（mass fraction）. the effects of the thermal parameters such as the growth rate（VL）, cooling rate（tC） and solidification local time（tSL） on the formation of the macrostructure and on the dendritic microstructure evolution were evaluated. A columnar to equiaxed transition（CEt） was found for VL and tC values from 0.82 to 0.98 mm/s and from 1.71 to 2.55 ℃/s, respectively. the microstructure was characterized by the measurement of the primary and secondary dendrite arm spacings（λ1 and λ2, respectively）. Experimental laws of λ1 =f（VL, tC） and λ2 =f（tSL） were proposed. It is observed that the interdendritic region is composed of the following eutectic mixture： a（Al）＋Si＋p-Al8 Mg3 Fe Si6＋q-Mg2 Si.
