As an audiovisual medium, computer animations require superior image quality and professional soundtrack to lead audiences into their fascinating virtual world. Without sound, the impact of storytelling is reduced or the story is even not under- standable. Despite the importance of sound, most animators are unfamiliar with sound editing software. Limited budget projects such as independent or student works have difficulty hiring sound professionals to create tailor-made soundtrack. Therefore, we need a suitable sound tool to express their individual ideas. In this paper, we propose an approach using schematic for both computer animation and sound. Our approach provides (1) physical simulation on sound through animation parameters and (2) a new channel for animators to add aesthetic values in sound through their experience of using schematics in existing animation software. We demonstrate our idea through several examples, such as Doppler shift, obstacle effect, importance, energetic, and sputtering effect.

This paper focuses on the upper end of the formal Singapore educational spectrum,providing an overview of ELT in polytechnics and universities. It is in four *** order to show continuity between ELT in schools and tertiary institutions,Part 1 explains briefly the nation’s language policy in *** Part 2,an attempt is made to delineate the main trends in ELT in universities and polytechnics and the approaches to ELT generally adopted for mature learners. Part 3 draws attention to the changing emphases in tertiary education in Singapore and to how students are being prepared in innovative ways in ELT for a globalised world and a knowledge based economy. Part 4 provides a summary of the paper.

BACKGROUND: Intravenous fluid(IVF) is commonly used in acute clinical management. This study aimed to review the choice and primary considerations in IVF prescriptions and to evaluate the adequacy of guidelines and trainings on it in the New Territories West Cluster(NTWC) of Hong ***: This is a descriptive study based on data collected from an online survey. Data were processed by SPSS for statistical analysis. This study focused on a general description and doctor-nurse between group comparison. Participants were asked the choice of IVF for nine acute clinical scenarios and provide reason. A 1–10 scale was used to assess the sufficiency of guideline, training and information, and time for revision on IVF ***: 0.9% sodium chloride was the most familiar IVF(36%), followed by 5% Dextrose solution(26%). In the nine scenarios, the most chosen IVF was 0.9% sodium chloride(37%–61%). There was significant difference in the choice of IVF between doctors and nurses in 7 cases. The second most chosen IVF for doctors was Plasma-Lyte A while that for nurses was Gelofusine. Departmental practice was the most chosen reason to account for the prescription. The adequacy of guideline, information and training, and time for revision was rated 5. Doctors had significantly more time at work than nurses to update knowledge in IVF prescription(5.41 versus 4.57).CONCLUSION: 0.9% sodium chloride was mostly chosen. The choice of IVF was mainly based on departmental practice. Adequacy of guideline, information and training, and time for revision on IVF prescription were average, indicating significant training deficit.

The Indian buffet process(IBP)and phylogenetic Indian buffet process(pIBP)can be used as prior models to infer latent features in a data *** theoretical properties of these models are under-explored,however,especially in high dimensional *** this paper,we show that under mild sparsity condition,the posterior distribution of the latent feature matrix,generated via IBP or pIBP priors,converges to the true latent feature matrix *** derive the posterior convergence rate,referred to as the contraction *** show that the convergence results remain valid even when the dimensionality of the latent feature matrix increases with the sample size,therefore making the posterior inference valid in high dimensional *** demonstrate the theoretical results using computer simulation,in which the parallel-tempering Markov chain Monte Carlo method is applied to overcome computational *** practical utility of the derived properties is demonstrated by inferring the latent features in a reverse phase protein arrays(RPPA)dataset under the IBP prior model.

AIM:To determine if there is any difference in longterm graft survival between Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty(DSEK)and penetrating keratoplasty(PK).METHODS:A retrospective 5-year cases analysis of bullous keratopathy secondary to Fuchs’endothelial dystrophy or pseudophakic bullous keratopathy,receiving either DSEK or PK.A total of 42 DSEK cases and 25 PK cases were included in the ***:In the 5-year analysis,graft survival rates were very similar in the two groups(DSEK 77.1%vs PK76.0%.P=0.918.95%CI:-6.3 to 33.4).Sub-analyses at 1y(DSEK 81%vs PK 95%.P=0.085.95%CI:-29 to 3.6)and 2y(DSEK 81%vs PK 88%.P=0.381.95%CI:-25.9 to 11.8)show a trend towards lower survival rates of DSEK vs PK,but the results were not statistically ***:Longterm 5-year graft survival is similar between the DSEK and PK methods of corneal transplant in Chinese patients with bullous keratopathy.

Gallium nitride(Ga N)-based light-emitting diodes(LEDs)are important for lighting and display *** this paper,we demonstrate green-emission(512 nm)In Ga N quantum dot(QD)LEDs grown on a c-plane sapphire substrate by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition.A radiative lifetime of 707 ps for the uniform In Ga N self-assembled QDs is obtained by time-resolved photoluminescence measurement at 18 *** screening of the built-in fields in the QDs effectively improves the performance of QD *** high quantum efficiency and high temperature stability green QD LEDs are able to operate with negligible efficiency droop and with current density up to 106 A∕cm^*** results show that In Ga N QDs may be a viable option as the active medium for stable LEDs.
