Background:Palatal rugae are asymmetrical elevations present on hard palate and are significant due to their uniqueness,stability and thus,aid in forensic ***:The objective is to determine palatal rugae morphology between parents and their offsprings and to determine their genetic *** and Methods:This randomized controlled cross-sectional single-blinded study was conducted on 50 families(randomly selected)who visited Vyas Dental College and Hospital.A total of 150 maxillary study models were examined and rugae were delineated and shape,size,and pattern of rugae were ***:Weak but significant correlation was seen in the nonspecific and angular type of palatal rugae between child and mother and child and father as P<*** with either or both of their parent was seen for curved,wavy,divergent,straight,horseshoe,angular,and nonspecific type of rugae with the higher%of wavy pattern matching(52%with mother and 54%with father).A considerable number of samples showed high heritability of primary and secondary rugae from both parents,but more predominantly to their mothers(branched,nonspecific,and straight).Conclusion:Both environmental and genetic factors can influence the rugae ***,studies should be conducted on a larger sample size to get more significant results.

Incidence and management of white grub, Schizonycha ruficollis on seedlings of teak （Tectona grandis Linn, f,）

In investigation was conducted annually from 2002 to 2005 between the second week of May and the end of September on the incidence of scarab beetle, Schizonycha ruficollis （Fabricius） in a teak （Tectona grandis L.f.） nursery at Ramdongari, Nagpur, India. The immature stages, that is white grubs of the scarab beetle damaged 14%-52% of teak seedlings in the nursery beds, whereas the adult of the species, that is scarab beetles, were recorded on three new host trees （ Ziziphus xylopyra, Acacia catechu and A. leucophloea） in addition to the reported hosts such as ziziphus （Z. jujuba and Z. mauritiana）. Beetles of the S. ruficollis started emerging from the nursery beds just after the pre-monsoon showers and continued for 10-18 days. While beetle of S. ruficollis defoliated tree hosts available in the surroundings, the immature stages of the beetle caused major damage by feeding on root systerfls of teak seedlings with symptoms of wilting and mortality in forest nursery beds. The result of chemical and biological treatments for the management of grubs of S. ruficollis in nursery beds indicated phorate 10% granular at the rate of 20 g/m^2 and chlorpyriphos 20% emulsifiable concentrate at the rate of 5.0 mL/m^2 to be effective. Grubs of S. ruficollis have not been recorded previously as a major pest of teak （T. grandis）. This is also the first report on occurrence of S. ruficollis adults on tree hosts such as Z. xylopyra, A. catechu and A. leucophloea. White grubs being pests of economic importance and the toughest insects to manage, information given in this paper on incidence, pest status and management of Schizonycha ruficollis is of importance to researchers and forest nursery managers.

White grubs, Holotrichia rustica and Holotrichia mucida （Coleoptera： Scarabaeidae） as pests of teak （Tectona grandis L. f.） seedlings

Field observations were carried out between 2002 and 2005 on bio-ecology of white grubs infesting teak （Tectona grandis Linn. f.） seedlings at Ramdongari Forest Nursery, Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra, Nagpur in central India. The study collected the data required for an integrated pest management strategy against the white grubs. The species damaging teak seedlings were Holotrichia rustica （Burmeister） and H. mucida Gyllenhal. The beetles （adults） of both these species began to emerge just after the pre-monsoon showers and when the relative humidity had risen rapidly over several days, but before the first monsoon rains. While the adults fed and mated on naturally growing bushes of Ziziphus jujuba, Z mauritiana, Z. xylopyra, Acacia leucophloea and A. catechu immediately after the emergence from the teak beds in the nursery, the immature stages （grubs） of both species fed on roots of the teak seedling, leading to plant death. This is the first report of （i） damage caused to teak seedlings by grubs ofH. rustica and H. mucida, and （ii） of *** and Z. mauritiana being hosts for the beetles ofH. mucida and H, rustica. It is also the first detailed report on the field bio-ecology of the H. rustica and H. mucida as major pests ofteak. White grubs are among the toughest-to-manage pests of economic importance and information presented here on the pest incidence and damage ofH. rustica and H. mucida is important to researchers and nursery field managers for the management of these pests on teak.

Cation Distribution in Lithium Ferrite(LiFe_(5)O_(8))Prepared via Aerosol Route

Nano size lithium ferrite was prepared through aerosol route and characterized using TEM, XRD, magnetic measurements and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The particle size of as obtained samples were found to be ~10 nm through TEM, that increases upto ~80 nm on annealing at 1200 oC. The unit cell parameter ‘a’ calculated using XRD, confirms the formation of ?-LiFe5O8. Room temperature M?ssbauer spectra of as obtained sample of all the ferrites exhibited broad doublet suggesting super paramagnetic nature. This doublet further resolved into two doublets and assigned to the surface region atoms and internal region atoms of the particles. The annealed samples (1200 oC) show broad sextets, which were fitted with two sextets indicating different local environment of both tetrahedrally and octahedrally coordinated Fe-cation. Cation distribution obtained from the X-ray, magnetic and M?ssbauer data confirms that the three fifth of the iron atom goes in to the octahedral site.

Rapid in VitroMultiplication of an Endangered Medicinal Plant Sarpgandha (Rauwolfia serpentina)

An efficient and reproducible procedure for clonal multiplication through in vitro culture of Rauwolfia serpentina (L.) Benth. (Sarpagandha) is standardized. The different explants like leaf and stem were used for callus induction and regeneration of the complete plantlets. High-frequency callusing was induced in leaf and stem explant of Rauwolfia serpentina on modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2.5 mg/l 2,4-D. Maximum regeneration of shoots from callus (90%) was observed in MS medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l NAA and 1.5 mg/l BA. However direct regeneration (96%) was recorded best in MS medium supplemented with BAP 2.5 mg/l. The maximum number of shoots per explant (6.5) was also highest in this phyto-hormone combination. Higher induction of root (100%) was observed in MS medium supplemented with NAA 0.5 mg/l. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in the field.

Effect of Zn Substitution on the Magnetic Properties of Cobalt Ferrite Nano Particles Prepared Via Sol-Gel Route

Zinc substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CoxZn1-xFe2O4, with x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.0) were prepared via sol-gel route and the effect of zinc concentration on saturation magnetization and lattice parameter were investigated. The particle sizes of the as obtained samples were found to be ~10 nm which increases upto ~92 nm on annealing at 1000oC. The frequency bands near 564-588 cm-1 and 425-442 cm-1 are assigned to the tetrahedral and octahedral clusters which confirm the presence of M-O stretching band in ferrites. The unit cell parameter ‘a’ increases linearly with increasing concentration of zinc due to larger ionic radii of Zn2+ ion . It was found that this substitution allows tunable changes in the magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite. Interestingly, saturation magnetization first increases upto x = 0.4 and then decreases for higher Zn substitution, thus tunable changes in magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite are possible. Source of such behaviour could be the variation of exchange interaction between the tetrahedral and the octahedral sites.

A Study on Elite Mango Genotypes in Odisha—An Avenue for Crop Improvement

A study was carried out among the local mango types in Odisha to explore their genetic variations for further utilization in crop improvement, as the genetic diversity serves as a way for the population to adopt the changing edapho-climatic condition. From 17 districts of Odisha, a total of 548 seedling trees were observed, but only 30 mango elites were selected on the basis of organoleptic test for taste, flavor and aroma. Different physico-chemical characters, like fruit size, shape, colour, flavour, aroma and other characteristics, varied widely among these genotypes. The results of the study with respect to 30 numbers of local mango genotypes revealed that the maximum individual fruit weight (510 g) and pulp percentage (78.4%) was recorded in Kali. The other desirable traits of the minimum stone percentage (5.9%) and the maximum pulp to stone ratio (12.5:1) was observed in Nakei. The minimum peel percentage (10.0%) and the maximum total soluble solid (TSS) percentage (26%) was recorded in the fruits of Mitha and Lori, respectively. Attractive fruit skin colour was observed in the genotypes Nakei and Belua (yellowish), followed by Sundari (yellow with orange tinge) and Kadalia (greenish yellow). But in case of check mango cultivars Amrapali and Mallika, desirable traits, like the maximum TSS, pulp percentage, pulp to stone ratio and the minimum stone percentage was exhibited by Amrapali, whereas Mallika had the maximum fruit weight. The shape and skin colour are neither attractive nor preferred in both the commercial cultivars, so above cited eye catchy traits can be incorporated into these two superior mango genotypes from the local genotypes to meet the market demand and export potential.

In the present paper, first ever experimental Compton profile of Nd2O3 have been measured using 137Cs Compton spectrometer at an intermediate resolution of 0.34 a.u. Theoretical profile are computed using PP-DFT-GGA, PP-DFT- LDA and PP-DFT-SOGGA within the frame work of LCAO scheme in, and are compared with experimental results. Theoretical anisotropies in directional Compton profiles are explained in term of degenerate states along the Fermi level.
