Endocrine radionuclide scintigraphy with fusion single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography

AIM: To review the benefits of single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)/computed tomography(CT) hybrid imaging for diagnosis of various endocrine ***: We performed MEDLINE and Pub Med searches using the terms: "SPECT/CT"; "functional anatomic mapping"; "transmission emission tomography"; "parathyroid adenoma"; "thyroid cancer"; "neuroendocrine tumor"; "adrenal"; "pheochromocytoma"; "paraganglioma"; in order to identify relevant articles published in English during the years 2003 to 2015. Reference lists from the articles were reviewed to identify additional pertinent articles. Retrieved manuscripts(case reports, reviews, meta-analyses and abstracts) concerning the application of SPECT/CT to endocrine imaging were analyzed to provide a descriptive synthesis of the utility of this ***: The emergence of hybrid SPECT/CT camera technology now allows simultaneous acquisition of combined multi-modality imaging, with seamless fusion of three-dimensional volume datasets. The usefulness of combining functional information to depict the biodistribution of radiotracers that map cellular processes of the endocrine system and tumors of endocrine origin, with anatomy derived from CT, has improved the diagnostic capability of scintigraphy for a range of disorders of endocrine gland function. The literature describes benefits of SPECT/CT for ^(99m)Tc-sestamibi parathyroid scintigraphy and ^(99m)Tc-pertechnetate thyroid scintigraphy, ^(123)I- or ^(131)I-radioiodine for staging of differentiated thyroid carcinoma, ^(111)In- and ^(99m)Tclabeled somatostatin receptor analogues for detection of neuroendocrine tumors, ^(131)I-norcholesterol(NP-59) scans for assessment of adrenal cortical hyperfunction, and ^(123)I- or ^(131)I-metaiodobenzylguanidine imaging for evaluation of pheochromocytoma and ***: SPECT/CT exploits the synergism between the functional information from radiopharmaceutical imaging and anatomy from CT, translating

Interface formation energy,bonding,energy band alignment in α-NaYF4 related core shell models:For future multi-layer core shell luminescence materials

To break through the bottle-neck of quantum yield in upconversion （UC） core-shell system, we elucidated that the energy transfer efficiency in core-shell system had an evident contribution from the charge transfer of interface with related to two factors：（i） band offsets and （2） binding energy area density. These two variables were determined by material intrinsic properties and core-shell thickness ratio. We further unraveled the mechanism of non-radiative energy transfer by charge transfer induced dipole at the inter- face, based on a quasi-classical derivation from F6rster type resonant energy transfer （FRET） model. With stable bonding across the interface, the contributions on energy transfer in both radiative and non-radiative energy transfer should also be accounted together in Auzel＇s energy transfer （ETU） model in core-shell system. Based on the discussion about interface bonding, band offsets, and forma- tion energies, we figured out the significance of interface bonding induced gap states （IBIGS） that played a significant role for influ- encing the charge transfer and radiative type energy transfer. The interface band offsets were a key factor in dominating the non-radiative energy transfer, which was also correlated to core-shell thickness ratio. We found that the energy area density with re- lated to core/shell thickness ratio followed the trend of Boltzman sigmoidal growth function. By the physical trend, this work contrib- uted a reference how the multi-layered core-shell structure was formed starting from the very beginning within minimum size. A route was paved towards a systematic study of the interface to unveil the energy transfer mechanism in core-shell systems.

Mechanoluminescence （ML） is the emission of light consecutive to a mechanical force or stress imposed to a crystalline material. Many inorganic and organic compounds present this phenomenon that is known for over 400 years. Lanthanide and uranyl salts were among the first substances investigated for this property. Mechanoluminescence, also referred to as triboluminescence, is often considered as being a badly understood phenomenon. In fact it is because of two main reasons. Firstly, a variety of different mechanical stresses, from simple rubbing, to applied pressure, crushing, impact of a weight, ultrasound, laser-generated shock wave, crystallization, dissolution of crystals, or even wind can trigger it. Secondly, ML is very sensitive to the purity and morphology of the sample： in inorganic compounds, generation of traps by doping ＂impurities＂（e.g. lanthanide ions） is responsible for light emission so that the exact composition of the sample has to be known to a very detailed level; for chelates, the crystallization conditions are crucial since they often generate extended networks of weak interactions that are instrumental in triggering ML when they are broken. In fact mechanisms of ML are relatively well known and theories and models often reproduce very well the experiments. Additionally, practical applications are at hand, for example stress, crack, and impact sensors based on SrAI204：Eu11 or Et3NH[Eu（dbm）4] are used to test structures and materials as diverse as road bridges, reinforced concrete elements, pressur- ized containers or airplane wings and to image the propagation of cracks or stress distribution. Military and security applications involve detecting the passage of vehicle or soldiers and producing counter- feiting inks while more joyful applications are luminous balls, wrapping papers and adhesive tapes. Facile design of Au@Pt core-shell nanostructures： Formation of Pt submonolayers with tunable coverage and their applications in electrocatalysis

A facile design of Pt nanostructures from submonolayer to monolayer has been realized by ion adsorption-in situ electrochemical reduction on Au nanoparticles supported on multiwall carbon nanotubes （CNTs）. The as prepared Au@Pt/CNTs catalysts display coverage-specific electrocatalysis. Au@Pt/CNTs with low Pt coverage is inactive towards methanol oxidation whereas it oxidizes formic acid effectively through a direct pathway with mass specific activity 90 times that of a commercial Pt/C catalyst. Due to its inertness to methanol, it shows high performance in the oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） with high methanol tolerance. In contrast, simply increasing the Pt coverage to above 40% switches the formic acid oxidation process to both direct and indirect catalytic pathways, and also results in high methanol oxidation activity.

The Relationship Between Orthographic Awareness and Chinese Reading in Hong Kong’s Young CSL Learners

Purpose:This study investigates young Chinese as a second language(CSL)learners’Chinese character reading performance and its relationship with their orthographic *** is a pressing need to gain a better understanding of Hong Kong’s ethnic minority students’CSL acquisition,so that more effective instruction can be ***/Approach/Methods:A total of 157 Hong Kong ethnic minority CSL students in Grade 4 were evaluated using a range of assessments:orthographic awareness in identifying and utilizing character components,listening comprehension for vocabulary terms and short texts,and reading Chinese character lists with single-and two-character ***:The students performed consistently across the two lists but made fewer errors when reading the two-character word list,most of which were *** regression analysis showed that the students’orthographic awareness contributed significantly to their character ***/Value:The findings suggest that orthographic awareness can help ethnic minority CSL learners improve their Chinese character reading *** classes provided for such students,and for CSL learners in general,should place greater focus on literacy training.

Highly active antiretroviral therapy per se decreased mortality and morbidity of advanced human immunodeficiency virus disease in Hong Kong

Background Morbidity and mortality of advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection （HIV） have declined in Western industrialized countries since the availability of highly active antiretroviral therapy （HAART）. It is unclear if this has also happened in Hong Kong. Methods We studied a retrospective cohort of patients with advanced HIV disease in Hong Kong, China. First, the mortality of advanced HIV disease per year was calculated for the decade 1993 to 2002, both annually and according to patient observation before and after 1997. Second, the event rates were estimated for the clinical end points of acquired immune deficiency syndrome （AIDS） and death. Univariate and multivariate analyses were then performed to identify associated factors. Results The crude mortality of advanced HIV disease declined from 10. 8 - 30. 4 per 100 patients during 1993 - 1996, to 0. 8 - 6. 9 per 100 patients during 1997 - 2002. A rate ratio of 4. 04 （95% CI, 2. 52 - 6. 47） was evident for those observed in 1993 - 1996, compared to those in 1997 - 2002. In a multivariate analysis where calendar period was adjusted, use of＇highly active antiretroviral therapy was associated with rate ratios of 0. 13 （95% CI, 0. 05 -0. 33） for death after AIDS, 0. 08 （95% CI, 0. 04 -0. 19） for AIDS after a CD4 cell count 〈200/μ1, and 0.21 （95% CI, 0.07 -0.67） for death after CD4 cell count 〈200/μl. In the same analysis, calendar period ceased to be a significant factor after adjustment for use of HAART. Conclusions The mortality and morbidity of advanced human immunodeficiency virus disease have declined in Hong Kong. This improved prognosis was attributable to the use of highly active antiretroviral therapy.

A prototype of full-color active-matrix micro-light-emitting diode(micro-LED)micro-display with a pixel density of 391 pixel per inch(ppi)using InGaN/AlGaInP heterogeneous integration is *** blue/green dual-color micro-LED arrays realized on a single metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD)-grown GaN-on-Si epiwafer and AlGaInP red micro-LED arrays are both monolithically fabricated,followed by the integration with a common complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS)backplane via flip-chip bonding technology to form a doublelayer thin-film display ***-color images with decent color gamut and brightness are successfully displayed through the fine adjustment of driving current densities of RGB *** full-color display combines the advantages of high quantum efficiency of InGaN material on blue/green light and AlGaInP material on red light through heterogeneous integration and high pixel density through monolithic fabrication approach,demonstrating the feasibility and prospects of high brightness,good color performance,and high-resolution micro-LED microdisplays in future metaverse applications.

The optical thermometer has shown great promise for use in the fields of aeronautical engineering,environmental monitoring and medical ***-referencing lanthanide thermo-probes distinguish themselves because of their accuracy,calibration,photostability,and temporal dimension of ***,the use of conventional lanthanidedoped materials is limited by their poor reproducibility,random distance between energy transfer pairs and interference by energy migration,thereby restricting their ***,a strategy for synthesizing hetero-dinuclear complexes that comprise chemically similar lanthanides is introduced in which a pair of thermosensitive dinuclear complexes,cycTb-phEu and cycEu-phTb,were *** structures were geometrically optimized with an internuclear distance of approximately 10.6Å.The sensitive linear temperature-dependent luminescent intensity ratios of europium and terbium emission over a wide temperature range(50–298 K and 10–200 K,respectively)and their temporal dimension responses indicate that both dinuclear complexes can act as excellent self-referencing *** energy transfer from Tb^(3+)to Eu^(3+)is thermally activated,with the most important pathway involving the ^(7)F_(1) Eu^(3+)J-multiplet at room *** energy transfer from the antenna to Eu^(3+)was simulated,and it was found that the most important ligand contributions to the rate come from transfers to the Eu^(3+)upper states rather than direct ligand–metal transfer to 5D1 or *** the first molecular-based thermometer with clear validation of the metal ratio and a fixed distance between the metal pairs,these dinuclear complexes can be used as new materials for temperature sensing and can provide a new platform for understanding the energy transfer between lanthanide ions.
