Diversity of Orchids in Terms of Their Distribution, Uses and Conservation in Annapurna Conservation Area of Nepal

The Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), the first conservation area and the largest protected area (PA) in Nepal, is incredibly rich in biodiversity. Notwithstanding this, orchids in the ACA have not been explored enough yet thus making the need for ambitious research to be carried out. Previous study only included 81 species of orchids within ACA. This study aims to update the record of species and genera richness in the ACA. In total 198 species of orchids, belonging to 67 genera (40% and 62% of the total recorded orchid species and genera in Nepal) has been recorded in ACA. This represents an increase of 144% in species and 56% in genera over the previous data. Out of the 198 species, 99 were epiphytes, 6 were holomycotrophic and 93 were terrestrial. Among the 67 genera, Bulbophyllum (17) species were dominant, followed by Dendrobium (16), Herminium (10), Coelogyne, Plantanthera (9 each), Eria, Habenaria, Oberonia (8 each), Calanthe (7), and Liparis (6). Fifty-six species were found to be ornamentally significant and 85 species medicinally significant.

High Strain-rate and Shock response of Carbon SupercompositeTM

This study focuses on assessing the dynamic behaviors of carbon SupercompositeTM laminates when subjected to high strain-rates and air blast loads, using a shock tube for testing. The investigation aims to understand the response of these advanced materials under extreme conditions, which is crucial for applications in aerospace, military, and other high-performance industries. SupercompositeTM (CZE) prepreg, made up of a 3k plain weave carbon fabric with milled carbon fibers as interlaminar reinforcements impregnated with epoxy, is used to create SupercompositeTM (CZE) laminates. A woven carbon composite (CBE) laminate was also created using 3k plain weave Carbon/Epoxy (CBE) prepreg. Both types of laminates were designed and fabricated using the autoclave process. The dynamic behaviors of CZE and CBE laminate under transverse compression loads were evaluated using a modified Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB). The study found that the 3D reinforcement with milled carbon fibers significantly affected the dynamic behavior of the CZE laminate. Stereo imaging videos, captured using two SHIMADZU high-speed video cameras in shock tube experiments, recorded the time history of back surface deflection. The plate specimens exhibited low deflections without any visible damage. The experimentally observed center point deflections of the CZE plates decayed sooner than those of the CBE laminates, indicating an improvement in damping due to the presence of 3D reinforced milled carbon fibers. This research shows that optimized utilization of milled carbon fibers as 3D reinforcement can withstand high stress in the thickness direction and higher energy absorption when subjected to impact and high strain-rate loading.

The application of response surface methodology was highlighted to predict and optimize the percentage of dilution of iron-based hardfaced surface produced by the PTA （plasma tratisferred arc welding） process. The experiments were conducted based on five-factor five-level central composite rotatable design with full replication technique and a mathematical model was developed using response surface methodology. Furthermore, the response surface methodology was also used to optimize the process parameters that yielded the lowest percentage of dilution.

Tuning of Optical Properties via Annealing of Bismuth Ferrite (BiFeO3) Thin Films

In this study we are reporting annealing induced optical properties of bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) thin films deposited on glass substrate via spin coating at 5000 rpm. The structural, optical and surface morphology of BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films have been studied via X-ray diffraction (XrD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-Ir), Optical absorption (UV-Vis) and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. XrD spectra confirm annealing induced phase formation of BiFeO3 possessing a rhombohedral r3c structure. The films are dense and without cracks, although the presence of porosity in BFO/glass was observed. Moreover, optical absorption spectra indicate annealing induced effect on the energy band structure in comparison to pristine BiFeO3. It is observed that annealing effect shows an intense shift in the UV-Vis spectra as diffuse absorption together with the variation in the optical band gap. The evaluated optical band gap values are approximately equal to the bulk band gap value of BiFeO3.

During the modernization or rehabilitation activity,the demolished structural waste causes large soil pollution and unavailability of natural aggregate is the big concern for the construction ***,this manuscript deals with the Composite Steel Circular Column(CSCC)with recycled Aggregate concrete(rAC)as infill is partly used,with the replacement of 25%and 50%in M30 grade of *** internal reinforcement steel is fully replaced by rolled steel tubes(circular and square)with varied thickness,ISA-unequal *** 14 specimens are cast and examined under axial load for analysis of the deflection characteristics,the load-bearing capacity along with its buckling *** experimental values are estimated through LVDT(linear variable differential transducer)at *** curve of load-deflection is drawn with the load *** the date interpretation,it is found column made of 50%-rAC has more than 25%-rAC.

A framework for building energy management system with residence mounted photovoltaic

Efficient utilization of a residential photovoltaic (PV) array with grid connection is difficult due to power fluctuation and geographical dispersion. reliable energy management and control system are required for overcoming these obstacles. This study provides a new residential energy management system (rEMS) based on the convolution neural network (CNN) including PV array environment. The CNN is used in the estimation of the nonlinear relationship between the residence PV array power and meteorological datasets. rEMS has three main stages for the energy management such as forecasting, scheduling, and real functioning. A short term forecasting strategy has been performed in the forecasting stage based on the PV power and the residential load. A coordinated scheduling has been utilized for minimizing the functioning cost. A real-time predictive strategy has been used in the actual functioning stage to minimize the difference between the actual and scheduled power consumption of the building. The proposed approach has been evaluated based on real-time power and meteorological data sets.

Damage and geological assessment of the 18 September 2011 M_w 6.9 earthquake in Sikkim,India using very high resolution satellite data

Post-disaster very high resolution（VHr） satellite data are potential sources to provide detailed information on damage and geological changes for a large area in a short *** this paper,we studied landslides triggered by the M_w 6.9 earthquake in Sikkim,India which occurred on 18 September 2011 using VHr data from Cartosat-1,GeoEye-1,QuickBird-2 and WorldView-2 *** the earthquake-affected area is located in mostly inaccessible Himalayan terrain,VHr data from these satellites provided a unique opportunity for quick and synoptic assessment of the *** visual change analysis technique through comparison of pre- and post-earthquake images,we assessed the damage caused by the event.A total of 123 images acquired from eight satellites,covering an area of4105 km2 were analysed and 1196 new landslides triggered by the earthquake were *** blockages and severely affected villages were also *** assessment of the terrain highlighted linear disposition of landslides along existing fault scarps,suggesting a reactivation of *** landslide inventory map prepared from VHr images also showed a good correlation with the earthquake shake *** showed that several parts of north Sikkim,particularly Mangan and Chungthang,which are close to the epicentre,were severely affected by the earthquake,and that the event-based landslide inventory map can be used in future earthquake-triggered landslide susceptibility assessment studies.

Elastic and Optoelectronic Properties of kCdF3:ab initio Calculations through LDA/GGA/TB-mBJ within FP-LAPW Method

Ab initio calculations are performed on the electronic, structural, elastic and optical properties of the cubic per- ovskite kCdF3. Tile kohn Sham equations are solved by applying the full potential linearized augmented plane wave （FP-LAPW） method. The exchange correlation effects are included through the local density approximation （LDA ）, generalized gradient approximation （GGA） and modified Becke-Johnson （mBJ） exchange potential The calculated lattice constant is in good agreement with the experimental result. The elastic properties such as elastic constants, anisotropy factor, shear modulus, Young＇s modulus and Poisson＇s ratio are calculated. kCdF3 is ductile and elastically anisotropic. The calculations of the electronic band structure, density of states （DOS） and charge density show that this compound has an indirect energy band gap （M-F） with a mixed ionic and covalent bonding. The contribution of the different bands is analyzed from the total and partial density of states curves. Optical response of the dielectric functions, optical reflectivity, absorption coefficient, real part of optical conductivity, refractive index, extinction coefficient and electron energy loss, are presented for the energy range of O-40eV. The compound kCdF3 can be used for high-frequency optical and optoelectronic devices.
