Plant pathogenic microbes pose a significant threat to food production, collectively affecting all cultivated crops. Given the impact of these pathogens on food security, there continues to be an urgent need to understand and exploit the biology of pathogenesis, plant susceptibility, and immunity in crop systems. Consequently, intense research efforts have helped define the molecular and evolutionary events that underpin plant-microbe interactions.

The 12th International Symposium of Spermatology continued the excellent tradition of this meeting since its inception in 1969 when the first Symposium was held in Italy under the Chairmanship of Professor Baccio Baccetti. This unique Symposium is held every 4 years and serves as a beacon for sperm cell biologists from all over the world, regardless of which species, animal or plant, they are working on. This willingness to embrace the fundamental biology of this distinctive cell type without species limitations is one of the hallmarks of this Symposium. For sperm biologists - it is our Olympics. The meeting in Newcastle, NSW brought together around 300 biologists from more than 22 different countries covering North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. Given the considerable distances and high cost involved in travelling to the East Coast of NSW, this was an outstanding outcome. The Symposium featured a series of 31 plenary lectures culminating in the prestigious Thaddeus Mann Memorial Lecture, which was delivered with typical grace and brilliance by Professor Masaru Okabe.

Objective To update the current status of bioresorbable scaffold, highlights the potential future prospective of innovative bioresorbable scaffold *** sources Data were obtained from papers published in PubMed, presentations from the following conferences: EuroPCR, Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics, and Chinese Interventional *** Bioresorbable scaffold has been introduced as a potential workhorse device for the treatment of coronary artery disease, with providing temporary vessel scaffold, then gradually being resorbed free of any caging, eventually restoring the vessel wall physiology and vasomotion. The clinical outcomes regarding the safety and efficacy following bioresorbable scaffolds implantation appear promising in the treatment of patients with either de novo lesions or acute myocardial infarction(AMI). In addition, two bioresorbable scaffolds currently investigated in Chinese population as well as several other bioresorbable scaffolds from Chinese manufactories are under development and preclinical *** Bioresorbable scaffolds with potential unique advantages have been rapidly developed and the initial clinical results are promising. Further preclinical and clinical evaluations are necessary to investigate their safety and efficacy in the treatment of Chinese patients with coronary artery disease.

The development of new wave energy converters has shed light on a number of unanswered questions in fluid mechanics, but has also identified a number of new issues of importance for their future deployment. The main concerns relevant to the practical use of wave energy converters are sustainability, survivability, and maintainability. Of course,it is also necessary to maximize the capture per unit area of the structure as well as to minimize the cost. In this review, we consider some of the questions related to the topics of sustainability, survivability, and maintenance access, with respect to sea conditions, for generic wave energy converters with an emphasis on the oscillating wave surge converter. New analytical models that have been developed are a topic of particular discussion. It is also shown how existing numerical models have been pushed to their limits to provide answers to open questions relating to the operation and characteristics of wave energy converters.

This paper explores US entrepreneurial history and public budgets from President Eisenhower’s election in 1952 until the beginning of the Obama administration 2008. A mix of market forces, structural changes and a tendency toward unfettered capitalism [1] challenge diagnosis. This analysis examines these complexities with 216 business quarters of economic history. It also provides a mathematical model to characterize in broad strokes positive governance modeling for business. This work is important as economic growth ensures a nation’s ability to protect its citizens.

Background A crucial element of human-machine interaction,the automatic detection of emotional states from human speech has long been regarded as a challenging task for machine learning *** vital challenge in speech emotion recognition(SER)is learning robust and discriminative representations from *** machine learning methods have been widely applied in SER research,the inadequate amount of available annotated data has become a bottleneck impeding the extended application of such techniques(e.g.,deep neural networks).To address this issue,we present a deep learning method that combines knowledge transfer and self-attention for SER ***,we apply the log-Mel spectrogram with deltas and delta-deltas as ***,given that emotions are time dependent,we apply temporal convolutional neural networks to model the variations in *** further introduce an attention transfer mechanism,which is based on a self-attention algorithm to learn long-term *** self-attention transfer network(SATN)in our proposed approach takes advantage of attention transfer to learn attention from speech recognition,followed by transferring this knowledge into *** evaluation built on Interactive Emotional Dyadic Motion Capture(IEMOCAP)dataset demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed model.

In the context of disillusionment with the effectiveness of foreign aid, this paper looks at how China’s approach to development cooperation with resource rich countries in Africa could affect traditional donors, as its standing as a major development partner continues to grow. It evaluates the evolution of the dominant development cooperation paradigm and analyses the way in which China may have increasing influence on the predominant model used by major donors, by breaking up China’s approach into motivations, methodological characteristics and finally consequences. Our theoretical framework is composed of norm and institutionalist theory, which are used explain the changes and stability of development approaches overtime and economic development theories, which analyse the feasibility of China’s approach as well as the evolution of the development paradigm to this current turning point.
