Macular microvascular and structural changes on optical coherence tomography angiography in atypical optic neuritis

BACk.ROUND Atypical optic neuritis,consisting of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders(NMOSD)or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease(MOGAD),has a very similar presentation but different prognostic implications and longterm management *** and metabolic factors are being thought to play a role in such autoimmune neuro-inflammatory disorders,apart from the obvious immune mediated *** the advent of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA),it is easy to pick.up on these subclinical macular microvascular and structural *** To study the macular microvascular and structural changes on OCTA in atypical optic *** This observational cross-sectional study involved 8 NMOSD and 17 MOGAD patients,diagnosed serologically,as well as 10 healthy *** vascular density(MVD)and ganglion cell+inner plexiform layer thick.ess(GCIPL)were studied using *** There was a significant reduction in MVD in NMOSD and MOGAD affected as well as unaffected eyes when compared with healthy *** and MOGAD affected eyes had significant GCIPL thinning compared with healthy *** unaffected eyes did not show significant GCIPL thinning compared to healthy controls in contrast to MOGAD unaffected *** comparing NMOSD with MOGAD,there was no significant difference in terms of MVD or GCIPL in the affected or unaffected *** Although significant microvascular and structural changes are present on OCTA between atypical optic neuritis and normal patients,they could not help in differentiating between NMOSD and MOGAD cases.

Tunable Optical Bandgap of Gadolinium Substituted Nick.l-Zinc Ferrite Nanoparticles-Effect of Calcination Temperature on Its Optical Parameters

The gadolinium substituted nick.l-zinc ferrite nanoparticles of the composition, Ni0.5Zn0.5Gd0.05Fe1.95O4 were prepared using sol-gel method. In order to study the effect of calcination temperature on the optical parameters, the prepared powder was divided into five parts. The first part was tak.n as the as-prepared sample and the remaining four parts were calcinated at different temperatures, 600°C, 700°C, 800°C & 900°C. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formation of cubic spinel structure with single phase and Fd3m space group. The crystallite size was increased from 11.75 nm to 18.13 nm as the calcination temperature increased from 600 to 900°C whereas as-prepared sample exhibited 17.61 nm. The dislocation density was decreased from 7.243 × 10-3 to 3.042 × 10-3 nm-2 as the calcination temperature increased from 600°C to 900°C. The micro strain was decreased from 10 × 10-4 to 6.452 × 10-4 as the calcination temperature increased from 600°C to 900°C. The characteristic absorbance peak. were obtained at 255.2 nm for the ferrite nanoparticles of as-prepared and calcinated at 600°C and 800°C whereas it was obtained as 252.8 nm for the sample calcinated at 700°C and there was no such characteristic peak.in UV-visible range for the sample calcinated at 900°C;it is expected in the below 200 nm region. The optical energy gap was calculated using k.belk.-Munk.equation based on Tauc’s plot and found in the range 4.100 eV to 5.389 eV. The lowest energy gap of 4.100 eV exhibited by the sample calcinated at 700°C and the highest energy gap of 5.389 eV by the sample calcinated at 900°C. It is concluded that the tunable band gaps can be obtained with varying calcination temperature.

Microstructure studies of air-plasma-spray-deposited CoNiCrAlY coatings before and after thermal cyclic loading for high-temperature application

In the present study, bond-coats for thermal barrier coatings were deposited via air plasma spraying（APS） techniques onto Inconel 800 and Hastelloy C-276 alloy substrates. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, and atomic force microscopy（AFM） were used to investigate the phases and microstructure of the as-sprayed, APS-deposited Co Ni Cr Al Y bond-coatings. The aim of this work.was to study the suitability of the bond-coat materials for high temperature applications. Confirmation of nanoscale grains of the γ/γ′-phase was obtained by TEM, high-resolution TEM, and AFM. We concluded that these changes result from the plastic deformation of the bond-coat during the deposition, resulting in Co Ni Cr Al Y bond-coatings with excellent thermal cyclic resistance suitable for use in high-temperature applications. Cyclic oxidative stability was observed to also depend on the underlying metallic alloy substrate.

Graphene-induced Pd nanodendrites： A high performance hybrid nanoelectrocatalyst

A facile and green approach has been developed for the in situ synthesis of hybrid nanomaterials based on dendrite-shaped Pd nanostructures supported on graphene （RG）. The as-synthesized hybrid nanomaterials （RG-PdnDs） have been thoroughly characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscop）~ atomic force microscop）~ Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques. The mechanism of formation of such dendrite- shaped Pd nanostructures on the graphene support has been elucidated using transmission electron microscopy （TEM） measurements. The RG induces the formation of, and plays a decisive role in shaping, the dendrite morphology of Pd nanostructures on its surface. Cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques have been employed to evaluate the electrochemical performance of RG-PdnDs towards oxidation of methanol. The electrochemical （EC） activities of RG-PdnDs are compared with graphene-supported spherical-shaped Pd nanostructures, Pd nanodendrites alone and a commercial available Pd/C counterpart. The combined effect of the graphene support and the dendrite morphology of RG-PdnDs triggers the high electrocatalytic activity and results in robust tolerance to CO poisoning.

Optimization of fused deposition modeling process parameters using a fuzzy inference system coupled with Taguchi philosophy

Fused deposition modeling （FDM） is an additive manufacturing technique used to fabricate intricate parts in 3D, within the shortest possible time without using tools, dies, fixtures, or human intervention. This article empiri- cally reports the effects of the process parameters, i.e., the layer thick.ess, raster angle, raster width, air gap, part orientation, and their interactions on the accuracy of the length, width, and thick.es, of acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene （ABSP 400） parts fabricated using the FDM tech- nique. It was found that contraction prevailed along the directions of the length and width, whereas the thick.ess increased from the desired value of the fabricated part. Optimum parameter settings to minimize the responses, such as the change in length, width, and thick.ess of the test specimen, have been determined using Taguchi＇s parameter design. Because Taguchi＇s philosophy fails to obtain uniform optimal factor settings for each response, in this study, a fuzzy inference system combined with the Taguchi philosophy has been adopted to generate a single response from three responses, to reach the specific target values with the overall optimum factor level settings. Further, Taguchi and artificial neural network.predictive models are also presented in this study for an accuracy evaluation within the dimensions of the FDM fabricated parts, subjected to various operating conditions. The pre- dicted values obtained from both models are in good agreement with the values from the experiment data, with mean absolute percentage errors of 3.16 and 0.15, respectively. Finally, the confirmatory test results showed an improvement in the multi-response performance index of 0.454 when using the optimal FDM parameters over the initial values.

Inflammatory mediator release by Brugia malayi from macrophages of susceptible host Mastomys coucha and THP-1 and RAW 264.7 cell lines

Objective:To investigate which life stage of the parasite has the ability to stimulate release of pro- or anti-inflammatory mediators from ***:The human macrophage/ monocyte cell line THP-1,the mouse macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 and naive peritoneal macrophages（PM） from the rodent host Mastomys coucha（***） were incubated at 37℃in 5%CO2 atmosphere with extracts of microfilariae（Mf）,third stage infective larvae（L3） and adult worms（Ad） of Brugia *** 48 hr post exposure,IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α,IL-10 and nitric oxide（NO） in cell-free supernatants were ***:Extracts of all the life stages of the parasite were capable of stimulating pro-（IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α） and anti-inflammatory （IL-10） cytok.nes in both the cell lines and peritoneal macrophages of *** was the strongest stimulator of pro-inflammatory cytok.nes followed by L3 and Ad;however,Ad was a strong stimulator of IL-10 *** was found to have potential to modulate LPS-induced NO release in RAW ***-induced NO release was concentration dependent with maximum at 20μg/mL in both RAW and ***:The results show that parasites at all life stages were capable of stimulating pro-（IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α） and anti-inflammatory（IL-10） cytok.nes and NO release from macrophages of susceptible host ***,human and mouse macrophage cell *** can suppress the LPS-induced NO release in RAW *** findings also show that the two cell lines may provide a convenient in vitro system for assaying parasite-induced inflammatory mediator release.

Analysis of a fuzzy epidemic model with saturated treatment and disease transmission

In this paper, we describe an SIS epidemic model where both the disease transmission rate and treatment function are considered in saturated forms. The dynamical behavior of the system is analyzed. The system is customized by considering the disease trans- mission rate and treatment control as fuzzy numbers and then fuzzy expected value of the infected individuals is determined. The fuzzy basic reproduction number is investi- gated and a threshold condition of pathogen is derived at which the system undergoes a back.ard bifurcation.

Analysis of Dielectric and Electro-optic Responses of Nanomaterials Doped Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Mixture

Dielectric and rotational viscosity measurements of a multi-component ferroelectric liquid crystal mixture were performed by adding a small concentration （0.01 wt%） of silica and multi walled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs）. Liquid crystals turn out to be outstanding hosts for nanomaterials. A remark.ble increase in the rotational viscosity was noticed in CNT doped system as compared to silica doped same liquid crystal system. Comparison of dielectric studies shows higher value of permittivity and dielectric losses for silica-doped sample than those of CNT doped sample. The results have been interpreted both experimentally and theoretically.
