HACEK organisms represent a rare but important group of causative pathogens in end.card.tis. These bacteria have historically been associated.with culture-negative end.card.tis;however, mod.rn laboratory techniques have mad. this less common. In this case, we present a 74-year-old.man who presented.with acute onset altered.mentation, fever, and.sepsis. He was ultimately found.to have Haemophilus influenzae meningitis, cerebral empyema, aortic valve end.card.tis, psoas myositis, and.L2 - L3 d.skitis with osteomyelitis. Although HACEK organisms are commonly found.in the oropharynx and.upper respiratory tract in humans, our patient d.d.not report recent preced.ng d.ntal or ENT proced.res. H. influenzae is responsible for approximately 0.16% of all cases of bacterial end.card.tis, representing a very limited.subset. Although generally consid.red.low virulent pathogens, this case d.monstrates the unusual extent of infection from a HACEK organism, H. influenzae, causing aortic valve end.card.tis as well as atypical non-card.ac sequelae, includ.ng acute meningitis.

With climate change,the spotted.wing d.osophila(SWd.d.osophila suzukii)invad.s a great number of fruit prod.ction regions world.id..A plethora of insecticid.s are being applied.for management of this *** expected.SWd.d.velops resistance against some potent insecticid.s or is rather insensitive to some ***,there is an urgent need.to id.ntify and.characterize alternative insecticid.s to control SWd.***,we have stud.ed.the effects of the orally applied.inhibitor of the fatty acid.synthesis pathway spirotetramat on SWd.fitness with respect to fecund.ty and.surface barrier function at d.fferent *** our experiments,we applied.spirotetramat mixed.with baker's yeast and.showed.that females and.males were not repelled.by effective concentrations of this *** found.that spirotetramat,by trend.lowers egg numbers laid.by fed.*** eggs rapid.y d.siccate,and.only a few larvae *** is lethal to larvae and.red.ces survival of ad.lt flies und.r low-humid.ty *** together,based.on our d.ta,we propose to use yeast supplemented.with spirotetramat and.ad.itional SWd.specific attractants in traps in non-crop areas in ord.r to erad.cate SWd.populations before they infest crop prod.ction sites.

The capital of Guinea, Conakry, faces a notable d.fficulty d.e to a water shortage, which is worsened.by the rapid.increase in population and.urban d.velopment. The Guinean Water Company (SEG) faces challenges in supplying water to the entire city d.e to its limited.area of approximately 420 km2 and.a population of 2 million. Moreover, the population growth rate is anticipated.to increase d.amatically, exacerbating the d.fficulty of fulfilling future water requirements. As a result, this stud. employs d.ta from the Knoema website and.the Institute of National Statistics of Guinea (INS) to examine the water prod.ction and.d.stribution process by the SEG. The stud. examines the challenges related.to water scarcity in Conakry and.suggests strategies to assist the city in managing the present circumstances and.planning for the future. The primary objective is to get a long-lasting water supply and.uphold.water quality to ad.ance public health.

Nanowires with inhomogeneous heterostructures such as polytypes and.period.c twin bound.ries are interesting d.e to their potential use as components for optical, electrical, and.thermophysical applications. Ad.itionally, the incorporation of metal impurities in semicond.ctor nanowires could.substantially alter their electronic and.optical properties. In this highlight article, we review our recent progress and.und.rstand.ng in the d.liberate ind.ction of imperfections, in terms of both twin bound.ries and.ad.itional impurities in germanium nanowires for new/enhanced.functionalities. The role of catalysts and.catalyst-nanowire interfaces for the growth of engineered.nanowires via a three-phase parad.gm is explored. Three-phase bottom-up growth is a feasible way to incorporate and.engineer imperfections such as crystal d.fects and.impurities in semicond.ctor nanowires via catalyst and.or interfacial manipulation. ＂Epitaxial d.fect transfer＂ process and.catalyst-nanowire interfacial engineering are employed.to ind.ce twin d.fects parallel and.perpend.cular to the nanowire growth axis. By ind.cing and.manipulating twin bound.ries in the metal catalysts, twin formation and.d.nsity are controlled.in Ge nanowires. The formation of Ge polytypes is also observed.in nanowires for the growth of highly d.nse lateral twin bound.ries. Ad.itionally, metal impurity in the form of Sn is injected.and.engineered.via third.party metal catalysts resulting in above-equilibrium incorporation of Sn ad.toms in Ge nanowires. Sn impurities are precipitated.into Ge bi-layers d.ring Ge nanowire growth, where the impurity Sn atoms become trapped.with the d.position of successive layers, thus giving an extraord.nary Sn content （〉6 at.%） in Ge nanowires. A larger amount of Sn impingement （〉9 at.%） is further encouraged.by utilizing the eutectic solubility of Sn in Ge along with impurity trapping.

Toxicity is the totality of ad.erse effects, which can be functional and.morphological lesions in a living organism, caused.by a substance introd.ced.in relatively high single d.ses or in small, repeated.d.ses. The aim of this stud. was to assess the OECd.recommend.d.acute oral toxicity and.anti-inflammatory activity of ethanolic extract of Ficus umbellata leaves. Animals were given a single oral d.se of 1000, 3000 and.5000 mg/Kg bod. weight (BW) of the extract. For the anti-inflammatory activity test, rats were given the ethanolic extract of F. umbellata leaves at d.ses of 100, 300 and.500 mg/Kg or aspirin® at a concentration of 100 mg/Kg PC orally, one hour before injection of 0.05 ml of 1% formalin und.r the plantar fascia of the rat’s right hind.paw. Paw volume measurements were taken one, two and.three hours after formalin injection, using an electronic caliper. After 14 d.ys of observation, no d.aths were observed.in treated.rats. The Ld.0 of ethanolic extract of Ficus umbellata leaf powd.r is greater than 5000 mg/Kg bod. weight. This extract has no significant effects on hematological parameters and.on the main markers of nephrotoxicity and.hepatotoxicity for a single d.se of less than 5000 mg/Kg PC. It red.ces formalin-ind.ced.ed.ma. Evaluation of the percentage inhibition showed.that the extract had.greater anti-inflammatory activity at 3 hours after the start of the experiment. However, better inhibition of inflammatory oed.ma of the paw of rats treated.with 500 mg/Kg was observed.at 5 hours after the start of the experiment, with a percentage inhibition of 69.23 ± 1.02, compared.with the reference group treated.with aspirin® 100 mg/Kg, which showed.an inhibition of 63.50 ± 0.98. These results show that F. umbellata leaves possess anti-inflammatory activity, which would.justify their use in trad.tional African med.cine to prevent or treat inflammation.

Our goal is to d.velop a facile process to create patterns of inorganic oxid.s and.metals on a substrate that can act as hard.masks. These materials should.have high etch contrast （compared.to silicon） and.so allow high-aspect-ratio, high- fid.lity pattern transfer whilst being read.ly integrable in mod.m semicond.ctor fabrication （FAB friend.y）. Here, we show that ultra-small-d.mension hard.masks can be used.to d.velop large areas of d.nsely packed.vertically and.horizontally orientated.Si nanowire arrays. The inorganic and.metal hard.masks （Ni, NiO, and.ZnO） of d.fferent morphologies and.d.mensions were formed.using microphase- separated.polystyrene-b-poly（ethylene oxid.）（PS-b-PEO） block copolymer （BCP） thin films by varying the BCP molecular weight, annealing temperature, and.annealing solvent（s）. The self-assembled.polymer patterns were solvent-processed. and.metal ions were includ.d.into chosen d.mains via a selective inclusion method. Inorganic oxid. nanopatterns were subsequently d.veloped.using stand.rd.techniques. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy stud.es show that high-aspect-ratio pattern transfer could.be affected.by stand.rd.plasma etch techniques. The masking ability of the d.fferent materials was compared.in ord.r to create the highest quality uniform and.smooth sid.wall profiles of the Si nanowire arrays. Notably good.performance of the metal mask was seen, and.this could.impact the use of these materials at small d.mensions where conventional method. are severely limited.
