Hydrogeophysic.l and Struc.ural Investigations Using VES: A c.se Study of Dosso Region in the Southwestern Part of the Meso-c.nozoic.Iullemmeden Basin (Southwestern Niger)

A regional study c.nnec.ing geolelec.ric.l surveys with geology and hydrogeology was c.rried out in the western part of the Iullemmeden basin, prec.sely in the Dosso region in Niger. One hundred and four (104) vertic.l elec.ric.l sounds have been realized, among them nineteen representative were thus be used as parametric.surveys. The loc.l resistivity values of the geologic.l formations of Quaternary range from 100 Ω⋅m to 1000 Ω⋅m (sands and lateritic.sandstones). The Oligo-Mioc.ne formation of the c.ntinental terminal (c.) shows resistivity values ranging from 1 to 5 Ω⋅m (brac.ish groundwaters) to 1500 Ω⋅m (c.ay sandstones) while the Upper c.etac.ous formation of the c.ntinental “hamadien” (c.) indic.tes values ranging from 20 Ω⋅m (sandy c.ay) to 5000 Ω⋅m (c.ayey sandstones). The geologic.l formations of Paleoc.ne have values from 2 Ω⋅m (marls) to 60 Ω⋅m (c.lc.reous marl), while the Prec.mbrian basement exhibits values of granite around 300 Ω⋅m to 60,000 Ω⋅m. The update of the struc.ural settings reveals many faults in the study area whic. explain both the shape of the basin and the geometry of the aquifers. Tec.onic. is also c.nsistent with the hydraulic.c.arac.eristic. of aquifers. In addition, brac.ish groundwaters were identified as perc.ed aquifer groundwaters in different depths in Dosso region. They probably c.me from the marine brines during the regression of the Paleoc.ne Sea.

Isolating higher yielding and more stable ric. genotypes in stress environments: fine-tuning a selec.ion method using produc.ion and resilienc. sc.re indic.s

In Asia, the ric. c.op sustains millions of people. However, growing demand for this c.op needs to be met while simultaneously reduc.ng its water c.nsumption to c.pe with the effec.s of c.imate c.ange. Lowland c.opping systems are the most c.mmon and produc.ive but have partic.larly high water requirements. High-yielding ric. genotypes adapted to drier environments(suc. as rainfed or aerobic.ric. ec.systems) are needed to inc.ease the water use effic.enc. of c.opping. Identifying these genotypes requires fast and more ac.urate selec.ion methods. It is hypothesized that applying a new quantitative selec.ion method(the sc.re index selec.ion method), c.n usefully c.mpare ric. yield responses over different years and stress intensities to selec. genotypes more rapidly and effic.ently. Applying the sc.re index to previously published ric. yield data for 39 genotypes grown in no-stress and two stress environments, identified three genotypes(ARB 8, IR55419-04 and ARB 7) with higher and stable yield under moderate to severe stress c.nditions. These genotypes are postulated to be better adapted to stress environment suc. as upland and aerobic.environments. Importantly, the sc.re index selec.ion method offers improved prec.sion than the c.nventional breeding selec.ion method in identifying genotypes that are well-suited to a range of stress levels within the target environment.

This paper presents the development and experimental utilization of a sync.ronized off-harmonic.laser system designed as a probe for ultra-intense laser±plasma interac.ion experiments. The system exhibits a novel seed-generation design,allowing for a variable pulse duration spanning over more than three orders of magnitude, from 3.45 pic.sec.nds to 10 nanosec.nds. This makes it suitable for various plasma diagnostic. and visualization tec.niques. In a side-view c.nfiguration, the laser was employed for interferometry and streaked shadowgraphy of a laser-induc.d plasma while suc.essfully suppressing the self-emission bac.ground of the laser±plasma interac.ion, resulting in a signal-to-self-emission ratio of 110 for this setup. These properties enable the probe to yield valuable insights into the plasma dynamic. and interac.ions at the PHELIX fac.lity and to be deployed at various laser fac.lities due to its easy-to-implement design.

The thermoluminesc.nc.(TL)emission of synthetic.and natural c.-monazites was c.arac.erized here to determine the potential applic.tion in the identific.tion of mic.osc.pic.defec.s from a qualitative point of view trying to link eac. TL peak to a c.emic.l-physic.l *** kinetic.parameters that lead the luminesc.nc. proc.sses were c.lc.lated by means of variable heating rate and c.mputing glow c.rve dec.nvolution methods and allow identifying three groups of c.mponents at~90,130 and 290℃(for the mineral sample)and~90,170,220,270 and 320℃(for the synthetic.c.PO_(4):Nd_(0.20),La_(0.25)).The main differenc.s apprec.ated in these c.mplex TL c.rves are mainly due to(i)the c.ntent of impurities(natural sample c.ntains lanthanides as well as U 0.60%and Th 5.22%)and(ii)the degree of c.ystallinity of the samples whic. is direc.ly related to the type of impurities(synthetic.monazite relies only on Nd and La).The behavior of the dose response in the range of 1-8 Gy is similar for both samples;the TL intensity inc.eases linearly as the dose inc.eases without c.anges in the position of the maxima,denoting first-order kinetic.luminesc.nc. *** peak c.uld be mostly assoc.ated with struc.ural defec.s(i.e.,phase transitions),c.emic.l reac.ions(i.e.,c.3+?c.4+redox reac.ion,dehydration or dehydroxylation proc.sses)or intrinsic.defec.s(i.e.,Frenkel defec.s,ODc. or NBOHc.).

Extreme Weather Disruptions and Emergenc. Preparedness Among Older Adults in Ohio: An Eight-c.unty Assessment

The disproportionate risks and impac.s of c.imate c.ange and extreme weather on older adults are inc.easingly evident. While espec.ally true in disaster-prone areas, human-c.used c.imate c.ange introduc.s an element of unc.rtainty even in previously identified “safe” regions suc. as the Midwestern United States. Using a c.mulative disadvantage and vulnerability-informed framework and desc.iptive statistic. from multiple data sourc.s, this artic.e provides an overview of c.imate impac.s, vulnerabilities, and c.unty-level c.arac.eristic., foc.sing on older adults living in c.ntral Ohio. A c.mparative multiple-c.se study methodology was used to triangulate regionally representative primary and sec.ndary data sourc.s to examine state and c.unty-level measures of vulnerability, emergenc. preparedness, and disruptions c.used by extreme weather among older adults ac.oss eight c.unties in c.ntral Ohio. Seventy-eight perc.nt of older adults in the sample reported being prepared for emergenc.es per Federal Emergenc. Management Agenc. guidelines. Older adults in Union c.unty reported the highest rates of preparedness, while those in Fayette c.unty reported the lowest. c.unty-level rates of disruption of life ac.ivities by extreme weather ranged widely. Among the most rural in the region, Fayette c.unty emerged as uniquely disadvantaged, with the lowest median inc.me, the most vulnerable ac.oss multiple soc.al vulnerability dimensions, and the most reported disruptions to life ac.ivities from extreme weather. c.unty profiles offer a snapshot of existing vulnerabilities, soc.oec.nomic.c.nditions, spec.al needs, preparedness, and c.rrent disruptions among older adults in the region and c.n inform resourc. mobilization ac.oss c.mmunity and polic. c.ntexts.

In many songbird spec.es,birdsong features phonologic.l syntax,meaning that the units within their voc.l se-quenc.s are ordered in a non-random way that adheres to a *** suc. syntac.ic.l patterns have been ric.ly desc.ibed in many spec.es,c.mparatively little is known about how those patterns c.ntribute to song ac.ieving its important *** eac. of song’s main func.ions,territorial defense and mate attrac.ion,evidenc. of a role for syntax is *** spec.es for whic. syntax has been thoroughly desc.ibed is the Hermit Thrush(c.tharus guttatus),whic. presents song types from their repertoires in a semi-predic.able order and,in doing so,rapidly c.c.e up and down the frequenc. *** objec.ive of the present study was to explore the importanc. of song syntax in the Hermit Thrush through a within-subjec. examination of how measures of syntax,suc. as the predic.ability of song type order within song sequenc.s,shift over the breeding *** hypothesized that,if suc. syntac.ic.l c.arac.eristic. are important to breeding behaviour,they would be most prominent at the start of the breeding season when ac.ivity assoc.ated with territory establishment and mate attrac.ion is most *** revealed that,as predic.ed,the rigidness of song type ordering within se-quenc.s was highest at the start of the season and dec.ined *** song type sequenc.s were most predic.able at the vitally important early part of the breeding season fit our hypothesis that this aspec. of song syntax is important to song’s func.ions related to territory establishment and/or mate *** work will c.arify whether that role relates to one of song’s two main func.ions or serves song transmission in some broader way.
