Purpose:To explore how perceptions of self-efficacy,health locus of control and outcome expectancy impact the adherence of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Saudi Arabiato self-care ***:A descriptive correlation design was used to analyse self-report questionnaires completed by a convenience sample of Arabic-speaking individuals(n=30)with type 2 diabetes mellitus from King Abdulaziz Medical City in ***:More than half(53%)of participants reported high self-efficacy,and the majority(77%)valued health and believed that effective diabetes management was *** the vast majority(93%)of participants believed that their doctor influenced their diabetes management,90%and 80%also acknowledged themselves and God,respectively,as the health locus of *** who perceived that they or their doctors were in control of their health condition were more likely to adhere to self-care activities,such as follow a specific diet and perform foot care(ple participants reported significantly greater adherence to medication than male participants(6.91±0.29 vs 5.14±2.44;p=0.02),and unmarried participants reported greater adherence to exercise than married participants(4.15±2.22 vs 1.60±1.43;p=0.001).Finally,self-efficacy had a significant,positive correlation with participants'adherence to exercise(r=0.491;p=0.006)and performing their foot care(r=0.586;p=0.001).Conclusion:Patients'perceptions of their health should be considered by healthcare providers to maximize adherence to effective self-care management.

Importin proteins were originally characterized for their central role in protein transport through the nuclear pores, the only intracellular entry to the nucleus. This vital function must be tightly regulated to control access by transcription factors and other nuclear proteins to genomic DNA, to achieve appropriate modulation of cellular behaviors affecting cell fate. Importin-mediated nucleocytoplasmic transport relies on their specific recognition of cargoes, with each importin binding to distinct and overlapping protein subsets. Knowledge of importin function has expanded substantially in regard to three key developmental systems： embryonic stem cells, muscle cells and the germ line. In the decade since the potential for regulated nucleocytoplasmic transport to contribute to spermatogenesis was proposed, we and others have shown that the importins that ferry transcription factors into the nucleus perform additional roles, which control cell fate. This review presents key findings from studies of mammalian spermatogenesis that reveal potential new pathways by which male fertility and infertility arise. These studies of germline genesis illuminate new ways in which importin proteins govern cellular differentiation, includ ng v a d rect ng proteins to d st nct ntrace ular compartments and by determining cellular stress responses.

A reversible amine-carbamate approach has been developed to reduce the use of antisolvents such as water in the coagulation of biopolymers from ionic liquid(Il)solution and thus improve the economy of Il *** and chitin were recovered from 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate([C_(2)mim][OAc])solution by introducing the miscible amines triethanolamine(TEA),ethylenediamine(EDA),or butylamine(BA)and bubbling CO_(2) at 40℃ and atmospheric pressure through the solutions to form carbamate salts in situ which resulted in biopolymer *** gave the best results because of its low boiling point and low viscosity,which benefited both biopolymer recovery and Il *** films and fibers could be formed by extrusion of an MCC/[C_(2)mim]-[OAc]solution into a coagulating bath comprised of a 1:1 M mixture of[C_(2)mim][OAc]and butylammonium butylcarbamate(BA-carbamate).The cellulose,Il,amine,and CO_(2) were easily separated,although the cellulose recovered required some water washings to remove traces of *** to 96.4%of the[C_(2)mim][OAc]could be recovered,76.2%from the coagulation bath and 20.2%from the water *** recycled Il was suitable for another cycle of cellulose dissolution and extrusion and 84.6%of the Il used for the second cycle was *** further work is needed,not the least of which will be reducing the amount of water needed for washing steps,some promising features of this process point the way for new directions for more economically viable Il recycling processes in biomass treatment with Ils.

Primary biliary cirrhosis(PBC),primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)and autoimmune hepatitis(AIH)are the major forms of autoimmune liver diseases each characterized by the destruction of a specific liver cell type and the presence of differing *** took a proteomic approach utilizing in situ matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry(MAlDI MS)to obtain profiles directly from liver samples of patients with PBC,PSC,AIH and *** ability to precisely localize the region for acquisition of MAlDI MS allowed us to obtain profiles from bile ducts,inflammatory infiltrates and hepatocytes from each biopsy *** tools developed to identify peaks and compare peaks across diseases and cell types were used to develop models to classify the *** an initial set of testing samples from PBC patients and controls,we identified unique peaks present in bile ducts,inflammatory infiltrates and hepatocytes that could classify samples in a validation cohort with 88–91%***,profiles of PSC and AIH did not differ significantly from *** of proteins in these peaks may represent novel autoantigens or effector *** findings illustrate the potential of a proteomic approach to autoimmune diseases with in situ MAlDI MS.

Oxygenation of tissues plays an important role in the development and progression of tumor to treatment *** of metalloporphyrines phosphorescence quenching by oxygen is one of the ways to measure dynamics of the oxygen concentration in the tissues by phosphorescence lifetime imaging of meso-tetra(sulfophenyl)tetrabenzoporphyrin Pd(Ⅱ)(TBP)using the time-correlated single photon counting(TCSPC)*** has been shown that phosphorescence lifetime of the sensor in S37 tumor in vivo varied in the range of 130 to 290μs after both topical and intravenous administration of *** indicates that oxygen level in tumors was lower compared to normal tissues where TBP phosphorescence has not been *** lifetimes of TBP increased in the solid tumor and in the muscle after photodynamic therapy of solid tumor that demonstrates oxygen consumption during treatment and possibly stopping the blood flow and hence the oxygen supply to the tissues.

Protonic ceramic electrolysis cells(PCECs),which permit high-temperature electrolysis of water,exhibit various advantages over conventional solid oxide electrolysis cells(SOECs),including cost-effectiveness and the potential to operate at low-/intermediate-temperature ranges with high performance and *** many efforts have been made in recent years to improve the electrochemical characteristics of PCECs,certain challenges involved in scaling them up remain *** the present work,we present a twin approach of combining the tape-calendering method with all-Ni-based functional electrodes with the aim of fabricating a tubular-designed PCEC having an enlarged electrode area(4.6 cm^2).This cell,based on a 25μm-thick BaCe0.5Zr0.3Dy0.2O3-δ proton-conducting electrolyte,a nickelbased cermet and a Pr1.95Ba0.05NiO4+δ oxygen electrode,demonstrates a high hydrogen production rate(19 m l min^-1 at 600℃),which surpasses the majority of results reported for traditional button-or planar-type *** findings increase the scope for scaling up solid oxide electrochemical cells and maintaining their operability at reducing temperatures.

Associations of blood biomarkers with glomerular filtration rate in patients with TIA and stroke: population-based study

Background and purpose Non-traditional risk factors such as chronic inflammation,oxidative stress and thrombogenic factors are believed to contribute to the excess stroke risk in chronic kidney disease(CKD)by triggering vascular injury and endothelial *** aimed to determine how well a panel of biomarkers representative of these factors would correlate with estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)in patients with recent transient ischaemic attack(TIA)or *** also investigated whether eGFR would confound previously reported associations between biomarkers and *** We studied a panel of 16 blood biomarkers related to inflammation,thrombosis,atherogenesis and cardiac or neuronal cell damage in TIA or ischaemic stroke in a population-based study(Oxford Vascular Study).Biomarker levels were log-transformed and correlated with eGFR,adjusted for *** proportional hazard models were used for survival *** Among 1297 patients with TIA or stroke,52.7%(n=684)of patients had CKD(eGFRl/min/1.73 m^(2)).There was a moderate correlation between log-eGFR and the log-transformed soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor-1(R^(2)=0.21),attenuating with adjustment for age(R^(2)=0.12).There were moderate-to strong correlations with markers of cardiac injury,N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide and heart-type fatty acid binding protein(hFABP,R2=0.14 and 0.34,respectively).The strongest correlation after adjustment for age was between hFABP and eGFR(R^(2)=0.20).Adjusting for eGFR did not impact any biomarker associations with *** Correlations between biomarkers related to inflammation and thrombosis with renal dysfunction in the setting of cerebrovascular events were generally modest after adjustment for age,suggesting that putative risk factors such as chronic inflammation or coagulopathy are unlikely to be important stroke mechanisms in patients with CKD.

AIM: To assess the level of undiagnosed coeliac disease (CD) in relatives of patients affected by the condition. METHODS: We collected blood from 914 relatives of probands. We screened these individuals by ElISA for IgA and IgG tTG antibodies, confirming any positive IgA tTG results with an IgA EMA and looked for evidence of IgA deficiency in those who were IgG tTG positive alone, and performed IgG1 EMA in these individuals. We undertook HlA typing where positive screening was found, and this confirmed a strong prevalence of HlA- DQ2 in the coeliac population. Follow-up small intestinal biopsy was undertaken in cases with positive serological screening, wherever possible. RESUlTS:Use of this serological screening algorithm revealed a prevalence of undiagnosed CD in 5%-6% of first degree relatives of probands. CONClUSION:Our data suggests that first degree relatives of individuals with CD should be screened for this condition.
