Carbon dioxide(CO2) is the largest anthropogenic greenhouse gas(GHG) on the planet contributing to the global warming. Currently, there are three capture technologies of trapping CO2 from the flue gas and they are pre-combustion, post-combustion and oxy-fuel combustion. Among these, the post-combustion is widely popular as it can be retrofitted for a short to medium term without encountering any significant technology risks or *** carbon is widely used as a universal separation medium with series of advantages compared to the first generation capture processes based on amine-based scrubbing which are inherently energy intensive. The goal of this review is to elucidate the three CO2 capture technologies with a focus on the use of activated carbon(AC) as an adsorbent for post-combustion anthropogenic CO2 flue gas capture prior to emission to atmosphere. Furthermore, this coherent review summarizes the recent ongoing research on the preparation of activated carbon from various sources to provide a profound understanding on the current progress to highlight the challenges of the CO2 mitigation efforts along with the mathematical modeling of CO2 capture. AC is widely seen as a universal adsorbent due to its unique properties such as high surface area and porous texture. Other applications of AC in the removal of contaminants from flue gas, heavy metal and organic compounds, as a catalyst and catalyst support and in the electronics and electroplating industry are also discussed in this study.

Objective:To evaluate antiplasmodial and analgesic activities of ethanolic leaf extract/ fractions of Panicum ***:The crude leaf extract(47-190 mg/kg) and fractions (chlor of orm,ethyl acqeous and methanol;96 mg/kg) of Panicum maximum were investigated for antiplasmodial activity against chloroquine sensitive Plasmodium berghei infections in mice and for analgesic activity against chemical and heat-induced *** antiplasmodial activity during early and established infections as well as prophylactic were *** at 5 mg/kg and pyrimethamine at 1.2 mg/kg were used as positive *** activity of the crude extract/fractions was also evaluated against acetic acid,formalin and heat-induced ***:The extract and its fractions dose-dependently reduced parasitaemia induced by chloroquine sensitive Plasmodium berghei infection in prophylactic,suppressive and curative models in *** reductions were statistically significant(P<0.001).They also improved the mean survival time from 13 to 28 days compared with control(P<0.001).The activities of extract/ fractions were incomparable to that of the standard drugs(Artesunate and pyrimethamine).On chemically and thermally-induced *** extract inhibited acetic acid and formalin-induced inflammation as well as hot plate-induced pain in *** inhibitions were statistically significant(P<0.001) and in a dose-dependent ***:Panicum maximum leaf extract has antiplasmodial and analgesic activities which may in part be mediated through the chemical constituents of the plant.

Dear Editor,A recently published review article titled“Current progress and questions in germline genetic of prostate cancer”enumerated some pertinent questions which impact on prostate cancer(PCa)surveillance and management[1].Literature across the world reveals that the age-standardized incidence rate per 100000 of PCa is lower in Asia(11.5)and Africa(26.6)when compared with Latin America/Caribbean(56.4),Europe(62.1)and Oceania(79.1);surprisingly the mortality rate per new case is higher in Africa(52.2%)and Asia(39.8%)when compared with Europe(23.9%),Oceania(19.1%),and Latin America/Caribbean(16.8%)[2].

Objective:Antiplasmodial and analgesic activities of the leaf extract and fractions of Clausena anisata(***) were evaluated for antimalarial and analgesic ***:The crude leaf extract(39-117mg/kg) and fractions(chloroform and acqeous;78mg/kg) of C. anisata were investigated for antiplasmodial activity against chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium berghei(***) infections in mice using suppressive,prophylactic and curative models and analgesic activity against acetic acid,formalin and heat-induced ***,5 mg/kg and pyrimethamine,1.2mg/kg were used as positive *** films made from tail blood of each mouse were used to assess the level of parasitaemia of the ***:The extract and its fractions dose-dependently reduced parasitaemia induced by chloroquine-sensitive *** in prophylactic,suppressive and curative models in *** reductions were statistically significant(P<0.001).They also improved the mean survival time(MST) from 17 to 21 days relative to control(P<0.01-0.001).On chemically and thermally-induced pains,the extract inhibited acetic acid and formalin-induced inflammation as well as hot plate-induced pain in *** inhibitions were statistically significant(P<0.001) and in a dose-dependent fashion. Conclusions:The antiplasmodial and analgesic effects of this plant may in part be mediated through its chemical constituents and it can be concluded that the *** possess significant antimalarial and analgesic properties.

COVID-19 has been prevalent worldwide for about 2 years now and has brought unprecedented challenges to our *** vaccines were available,the main disease intervention strategies were *** December 2020,in Ontario,Canada,vaccines were approved for administering to vulnerable individuals and gradually expanded to all individuals above the age of *** the vaccine coverage reached a satisfactory level among the eligible population,normal social activities resumed and schools reopened starting September ***,when schools reopen for in-person learning,children under the age of 12 are unvaccinated and are at higher risks of contracting the *** propose an age-stratified model based on the age and vaccine eligibility of the *** fit our model to the data in Ontario,Canada and obtain a good fitting *** results show that a relaxed between-group contact rate may trigger future epidemic waves more easily than an increased within-group contact *** increasing mixed contact rate of the older group quickly amplifies the daily incidence numbers for both groups whereas an increasing mixed contact rate of the younger group mainly leads to future waves in the younger group *** results indicate the importance of accelerating vaccine rollout for younger individuals in mitigating disease spread.

The photoproduction of K＋ mesons from the nucleon provides important constraints on the nucleon excitation spectrum and at threshold energies challenges effective field theories based on chiral perturbation in the strange quark sector. Preliminary cross-section measurements for γ（P, K＋）A are presented at an unprecedented beam energy resolution. The data was collected at the MAMI-C facility in Mainz using the Crystal Ball Detector. A new method of K＋ detection was used in which the K＋ is tagged from its weak decay products in the detector crystals. This technique has application with other calorimeters at present and future hadron facilities.

Objective:To evaluate the antidiabetic activities of ethanolic root extract/fraction of Anthocleista djalonensis(A. djalonensis) in alloxan-induced diabetic ***: A. djalonensisroot extract/fractions(37-111 mg/kg) were administered to alloxan-induced diabetic rats for 14 days and blood glucose levels(BGLs) of the diabetic rats were monitored at intervals of hours and days throughout the duration of the ***:Treatment of alloxan-induced diabetic rats with the extract/fractions caused a significant(P<0.001) reduction in fasting BGLs of the diabetic rats both in acute study and prolonged treatment(2 weeks). The activities of the extract and fractions were more than that of the reference drug, glibenclam ***:These results suggest that the root extract/fractions of A. djalonensispossess antidiabetic effect on alloxan-induced diabetic rats and this justifies its use in ethnomedicine and can be exploited in the management of diabetes.
