This study is an extension of the previous work done with ARS-680 Environmental Chamber. Drying is a complex operation that demands much energy and time. Drying is essentially important for preservation of ginger rhizome. Drying of ginger was modeled, and then the effective diffusion coefficient and activation energy were determined. For this purpose, the experiments were done at six levels of varied temperatures: 10°C, 20°C, 30°C, 40°C, 50°C and 60°C. The values of effective diffusion coefficients obtained in this work for the variously treated ginger rhizomes closely agreed with the average effective diffusion coefficients of other notable authors who determined the drying kinetics and convective heat transfer coefficients of ginger slices.

This study aimed to discriminate ten Cameroonian cocoa hybrids according to their total fat, fatty acid composition, tocopherol and tocotrienol profiles. Six cocoa clones from the gene banks of the Cameroon Cocoa Development Corporation were used to create hybrids. The determination of fatty acid composition was carried out by using a gas chromatography (GC) apparatus coupled by a flame ion detector (FID). Tocopherol and tocotrienol analysis was performed by upper high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Information on the impact of the genotype on the cocoa fat composition was provided. The major fatty acids (FA) in fermented samples are stearic (34.57%), palmitic (26.13%), oleic (34.13%) and linoleic (3.16%) acids. (35.05% to 35.6%). SCA12 × ICS40, SCA12 × SNK13, SNK13 × T79/501 have the least hard cocoa butters. Tocopherols analysis showed a predominance of γ-tocopherols (94.64 ± 1.51 to 292.16 ± 3.17 µg∙g−1), whereas only a small amount of β and δ-tocopherol (from 0.46 to 2.78 µg∙g−1 and 0.12 to 5.82 respectively) was observed. No γ-tocotrienol was found in fermented samples. A differentiation in terms of total fat and tocopherol content was observed amongst hybrids with the same mother-clone, suggesting an impact of pollen on these compounds.

Objective:To investigate the effects of an aqueous leaf extract of Acalypha wilkesiana (***) on plasma chemistry and hematological indices of sub-chronic salt-loaded rate. Method:The control group received a diet consisting 100%of the commercial feed,while the four test groups were received a diet consisting 8%salt and 92%commercial feed all through, except for the reference treatment group that had its salt-loading discontinued after six weeks. The extract was orally administered daily at 200 and 250 mg/kg body weight;while the test control,reference and control groups received appropriate volumes of water by the same route. Results:The extract had no negative effects on markers of liver and kidney functions,produced hemoconcentration,significantly higher(P<0.05) plasma calcium and potassium levels,and significantly lower(P<0.05) plasma sodium and chloride levels in the test animals compared to test ***:This result supports the traditional use of *** in the management of hypertension and suggesls that the extract may be a potassium sparing diuretic whose mechanism of antihypertensive action may be via alteration of plasma sodium and potassium balances or calcium mediated alteration in vascular muscle tone.

Evaluating the Impact of the Universal Test and Treat Strategy on the Survival of Patients in the Northwest Region of Cameroon

Introduction: The main outcome of efficiently implemented universal test and treat (UTT) program is improved survival. UTT implementation has been ongoing in Cameroon since 2016 but evaluation data are scarce. This study aims to assess the survival of antiretroviral therapy (ART) patients initiated under UTT in Northwest region of Cameroon. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included HIV-positive patients initiated in 2016 at 27 purposefully selected sites and followed until 2021. Data was anonymously abstracted from ART registers and patients’ charts. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates and Cox model were used to compare the survival of patients initiated under UTT with those initiated otherwise, using stata version 14.0. Results: In total, 2490 HIV-positive patients (median age 42.7 years, 94.7% adults, and 69.0% female) participated in the study. Of 1389 patients with viral load (VL) test results, 55% were initiated on ART late. The VL suppression rate of patients initiated late and those initiated early were similar. During follow-up, 1020 (40.9%) participants censored. The survival curves of patients initiated early on ART and those initiated late were similar during the first 2.5 years of follow-up but significantly (p Conclusions: This study confirms the expected impact of UTT. Programs only need to close existing implementation gaps along the critical pathways (diagnosis and treatment) of UTT, focusing more on males.

Objective:To investigate the ability of an aqueous extract of the leaves of Sansevieria liberica (***) to alter the hematology,plasma biochemistry and ocular indices of oxidative stress in alloxan-induced diabetic ***:Diabetes meUitus was induced by injection of alloxan (80 mg/kg body weight),via the tail *** extract was administered orally at 100,200 and 300 mg/kg body weight(both to normal and diabetic rats),and metformin at SO mg/kg body weight. Results:Compared to test control,the treatment dose dependently,significantly lowered(P<0.05) ocular malondialdehyde content,atherogenic indices,red cell,total white cell and lymphocyte counts,mean cell hemoglobin concentration;and plasma levels of glucose,triglyceride,total-, very low density lipoprotein-,low density lipoprotein- and non-high density lipoprotein cholesterols,total,conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin,sodium,urea,blood urea nitrogen,as well as plasma activities of alkaline phosphatase,alanine and aspartate ***, the treatment significantly increased(P<0.05) hematocrit,hemoglobin concentration,mean cell hemoglobin,and mean cell volume,neutrophil and monocyte counts,and plasma levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol,potassium,chloride,calcium,bicarbonate and total protein, ocular ascorbic acid content and ocular activities of catalase and superoxide *** study showed the hypoglycemic,hypolipidemic,immune-modulating,ocular-,hepato-renal and cardio-protective potentials of the ***:All these,support the use of the leaves of *** in African traditional health care practices for the management of diabetes mellitus.

Multispectral images contain a large amount of spatial and spectral data which are effective in identifying change *** feature extraction is important for multispectral image classification and is evolving as an interesting research area in change ***,many deep learning framework based approaches do not consider both spatial and textural details into *** order to handle this issue,a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)based multi-feature extraction and fusion is introduced which considers both spatial and textural *** method uses CNN to extract the spatio-spectral features from individual channels and fuse them with the textural *** the fused image is classified into change and unchanged *** presence of mixed pixels in the bitemporal satellite images affect the classification accuracy due to the misclassification *** proposed method was compared with six state-of-theart change detection methods and *** main highlight of this method is that by taking into account the spatio-spectral and textural information in the input channels,the mixed pixel problem is *** indicate the effectiveness of this method and demonstrate that it possesses low misclassification errors,higher overall accuracy and kappa coefficient.
