Retrieval of Elastic Green’s Tensor near a Cylindrical Inhomogeneity from Vector Correlations

Multiple scattering of elastic waves in realistic media makes that averagefield intensities or energy densities follow diffusive processes. In such regime the successiveP to S energy conversions by distributed random inhomogeneities give rise toequipartition which means that in the phase space the available elastic energy is distributedin averagewith equal amounts among the possible states of P and S waves. Insuch diffusive regime the P to S energy ratio equilibrates in an universal way independentof the particular details of the scattering. It has been demonstrated that averagingthe cross correlations at any two points of an elastic medium subjected to diffuse elasticwavefields leads to the emergence of the Green function, which is the wave fieldthat would be observed at one position if an impulsive load is applied at the other. Inthis work we study the problem of the retrieval of the 2D tensor elastodynamic Greenfunction in an infinite elastic space containing a circular cylinder inclusion. We illuminateisotropically the elastic spacewith plane waves. We assume the spectra for both Pand S waves uniform but such that the energy ratio ES/EP=(a/b)2, which is the onepredicted by equipartition theory in two-dimensions. We then show that the Fouriertransform of azimuthal average of the cross-correlation of motion between two pointswithin an elastic medium is proportional to the imaginary part of the exact Green tensorfunction between these points. The numerical results presented here point out thepossibility of detection and imaging of diffractors and resonant diffractors by crosscorrelation even in presence of attenuation exists.

Clinical presentation and early predictors for poor outcomes in pediatric myocarditis:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Myocarditis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children, leading to long-term sequelae including chronic congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, and death. The initial diagnosis of myocarditis is usually based on clinical presentation, but this widely ranges from the severe sudden onset of a cardiogenic shock to asymptomatic patients. Early recognition is essential in order to monitor and start supportive treatment prior to the development of severe adverse events. Of note, many cases of fulminant myocarditis are usually misdiagnosed as otherwise minor conditions during the weeks before the unexpected *** To provide diagnostic clues to make an early recognition of pediatric *** investigate early predictors for poor *** We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional single-center study from January 2008 to November 2017 at the Pediatric Department of our institution, including children < 18-years-old diagnosed with myocarditis. Poor outcome was defined as the occurrence of any of the following facts: death, heart transplant, persistent left ventricular systolic dysfunction or dilation at hospital discharge(early poor outcome), or after 1 year of follow-up(late poor outcome). We analyzed different clinical features and diagnostic test findings in order to provide diagnostic clues for myocarditis in children. Multivariable stepwise logistic regression analysis was performed using all variables that had been selected by univariate analysis to determine independent factors that predicted a poor early or late outcome in our study *** A total of 42 patients [69% male; median age of 8(1.5-12) years] met study inclusion criteria. Chest pain(40%) was the most common specific cardiac symptom. Perspectives on the role of Pannexin 1 in neural precursor cell biology

We recently reported that targeted deletion of Pannexin 1 in neural precursor cells of the ventricular zone impairs the maintenance of these cells in healthy and stroke-injured brain. Here we frame this exciting new finding in the context of our previous studies on Pannexin 1 in neural precursors as well as the close rela- tionship between Pannexin 1 and purinergic receptors established by other groups. Moreover, we identify important gaps in our understanding of Pannexin 1 in neural precursor cell biology in terms of the under- lying molecular mechanisms and functional/behavioural outcomes.

Conical tank level control using fractional order PID controllers： a simulated and experimental study

In this paper, simulated and experimental results on the conical tank level control are presented. PI/PID controllers of integer order （IO） as well as of fractional order （FO） are studied and compared. The tuning parameters are obtained first by using root locus （RL） and Ziegler and Nichols methods, for comparison purposes. Next, particle swarm optimization （PSO） is employed to determine the optimal controllers＇ parameters using as fitness function the integral of the absolute value of tracking error （IAE）. From the experimental results it is concluded that PI/FOPI are the controllers presenting the lowest IAE indexes, whereas PID/FOPID controllers present the lowest energy consumption by the control signal.

Continuous room temperature nanowire lasing from silicon-integrated optoelectronic elements requires careful optimisation of both the lasing cavity Q-factor and population inversion *** apply time-gated optical interferometry to the lasing emission from high-quality GaAsP/GaAs quantum well nanowire laser structures,revealing high Q-factors of 1250±90 corresponding to end-facet reflectivities of R=0.73±*** using optimised direct-indirect band alignment in the active region,we demonstrate a well-refilling mechanism providing a quasifour-level system leading to multi-nanosecond lasing and record low room temperature lasing thresholds(~6μJ cm^(−2) pulse−1)for Ⅲ-Ⅴ nanowire *** findings demonstrate a highly promising new route towards continuously operating silicon-integrated nanolaser elements.

Does an association exist between chronic pancreatitis and liver cirrhosis in alcoholic subjects?

AIM: To study the possible association between chronic pancreatitis (CP) and liver cirrhosis (LC) of alcoholic etiology,after excluding any other ***: One hundred and forty consecutive alcoholic patients were subdivided into three groups: CP (n = 53),LC (n = 57),and asymptomatic alcoholic (n = 30).Clinical,biochemical and morphological characteristics,Child-Pugh index,indocyanine green test,and fecal pancreatic elastase-1 test were ***: In patients with cirrhosis,major clinical manifestations of CP such as pancreatic pain and steatorrhea,as well as imaging alterations of CP such as calcifications,duct dilation and pseudocysts were absent; insulin-dependent diabetes was present in 5.3% of cases,and elastase-1 test was altered in only 7%,and severely altered in *** patients with CP,clinical characteristics of cirrhosis such as ascites,encephalopathy and gastrointestinal hemorrhage were present in one case,Child-Pugh grade > A in 5.7%,and altered indocyanine green test in 1.9% *** asymptomatic alcoholism,there was only a non-coincident alteration of elastase-1 test and indocyanine test in 14.8% and 10%,respectively,but other characteristics of cirrhosis or CP were *** inverse correlation (r = -0.746) between elastase-1 test and indocyanine test was found in alcoholic ***: There is a scarce coincidence in clinical and morphological alterations among patients with CP or LC of alcoholic etiology,but an inverse correlation between pancreatic and liver function *** findings support that these alcoholic diseases evolve in a different manner and have different etiopathogenesis.
