In pursuit of scientific discovery,vast collections of unstructured structural and functional images are acquired;however,only an infinitesimally small fraction of this data is rigorously analyzed,with an even smaller fraction ever being *** method to accelerate scientific discovery is to extract more insight from costly scientific experiments already ***,data from scientific experiments tend only to be accessible by the originator who knows the experiments and ***,there are no robust methods to search unstructured databases of images to deduce correlations and ***,we develop a machine learning approach to create image similarity projections to search unstructured image *** improve these projections,we develop and train a model to include symmetry-aware *** an exemplar,we use a set of 25,133 piezoresponse force microscopy images collected on diverse materials systems over five *** demonstrate how this tool can be used for interactive recursive image searching and exploration,highlighting structural similarities at various length *** tool justifies continued investment in federated scientific databases with standardized metadata schemas where the combination of filtering and recursive interactive searching can uncover synthesis-structure-property *** provide a customizable open-source package(https://***/m3-learning/Recursive_symmetry_Aware_Materials_Microstructure_Explorer)of this interactive tool for researchers to use with their data.

Post-traumatic osteoarthritis(PTOA)is a complex and painful problem in the foot and *** percent of osteoarthritis cases in the foot and ankle can be classified as *** can affect any of the 33 joints in the foot and the *** arthroplasty is a method for treatment of early arthritic joints without fusing or replacing them and its effectiveness has been well *** purpose of this case series is to present our successful experiences and positive results using distraction arthroplasty to treat PTOA in the ankle,subtalar,first metatarsophalangeal,and second tarsometatarsal joints,and to present distraction arthroplasty as a viable alternative to invasive joint sacrificing procedures such as arthrodesis or *** Arthroplasty effectively and safely treats PTOA and improves the stability of joints in the Foot and ***,the use of bone marrow aspirate concentrate as an adjuvant can improve the long-term functional and structural outcomes of the joint,and can prolong the need for further,more aggressive surgical interventions such as fusion or arthroplasty.

Located on Dongshan Island, off the coast of Fujian province, is a typical rural village called Tongbo. On May 10, 1950, 147 men were abducted by the KMT army on its way to Taiwan. since a majority of the men were already married, overnight, their wives became ＂widows,＂ and most would remain so for the rest of their lives. Consequently, Tongbo village became more widely known as Widow Village. The first objective of this paper is to document the tragic experiences of men and women in Tongbo village, focusing on these forced separations in 1950, the possibility of reunion after 1987, and the struggle to cope with the difficulties in between. The second objective of this paper is to argue that while heartbreaking, the experiences of this village are not extraordinary in the context of the Chinese Civil War. What made the men and women in Tongbo extraordinary is not their collective suffering, but how these villagers suffered less, not more, than in many other places, because of the actions of three key figures.

The microstructures of 316L stainless steel created by rapid solidification are investigated by comparing the similar microstructures of individual hatches of directed energy deposition additive manufacturing(DED-AM)and those of single,laser surface-melted tracks formed on a solid *** recoil pressure,which is exponentially dependent on the laser beam power density,induces convection of the melt pool,which causes formation of microstructural bands in the as-solidified *** microstructural bands are associated with changes in the chromium concentration and are a significant component of the inhomogeneous microstructure of DED-AM.

Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK)is preferred over conventional penetrating keratoplasty(PKP)for the treatment of anterior corneal opacities or ectasias due to decreased risk of endothelial ***,DALK remains surgically challenging,largely due to challenges associated with achieving consistent pneumo-dissection of posterior stroma from the underlying pre-Descemet’s or Descemet’s membrane(DM).Air must be injected at sufficient depth in the corneal stroma in order to achieve successful pneumo-dissection,but advancing a needle too deep into the cornea can lead to perforation of *** describe here a novel technique using a handheld slit lamp(Eidolon model 510L,Eidolon Optical LLC,Natick,MA,UsA)to assist in creation of the big-bubble in DALK *** of a handheld slit beam intraoperatively is a safe,relatively inexpensive,and effective technique for increasing the success of big-bubble formation in DALK procedures.

Optically targeted electrochemical cell microscopy(OTECCM)was applied to measure electrocatalytic rates at individual Cu nanoparticles(NPs)under electrolyte conditions relevant to CO_(2) *** electrocatalytic responses from individual NPs were found to exhibit a wide variation in behavior,with significant NP-to-NP variations in the magnitude of electrocata-lytic currents and necessary overpotentials being *** of these quantities with metrics of NP size suggest no significant variations in the inherent electrocatalytic activity of the NPs with *** element simulations of diffusion in this system demonstrate the observed diffusion-limited currents are significantly smaller than expected,attributable to the presence of a significant amount of residual ligand on the surface of the Cu NPs,which were prepared via an organic phase *** results presented here further demonstrate the promise of techniques which employ correlated optical and electrochemical measurements,such as OTECCM,for studying electrocatalysis at individual NPs.
