Objective： To evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of one-stage external fixation by using locking plate in distal tibial fractures. Methods： In this non-control prospective study, 28 patients with distal tibial fractures were included and underwent one-stage external fixation by using locking plate. There were 21 males and 7 females, with a mean age of 43 years （19-63）. According to AO/OTA fracture classification, there were 9 cases of Type A1, 9 of Type A2, 10 of Type A3 fractures. There were 21 close and 7 open fractures. The locking plate was placed on the anteromedial aspect of the tibia with 4-5 bicortical screws inserted in both distal metaphysis and diaphysis. The radiographic and clinic results were evaluated. Results： All patients were followed up for the average of 16 months （ranging from 12 to 21 months）. The average surgery duration was 38 （25-60） minutes. The mean time to fracture healing were 14.6 ± 2.67, 17.5 ± 3.66, and 18.4±3.37 （p 〈 0.05） weeks in type A1, A2, and A3 fractures respectively. By the end of the follow-ups, the mean AOFAS score were 96.11 ± 2.32, 92.67 ± 1.80 and 92.00± 2.06 （p 〉 0.05） in type A1, A2, and A3 fractures respectively. None of nonunion, deep infection, or breakage of screw or plate were observed. Conclusions： Distal tibial fracture was the ideal indication for external fixation using locking plate. The external plating is characterized by ease of performance, less invasive, fewer soft tissue impingement, improved cosmesis, and convenient for removal.

Aerosol oxalate and its implication to haze pollution in Shanghai,China

A total of 238 samples of PM2.5and TSP were analyzed to study the characteristics,sources,and formation pathways of aerosol oxalate in Shanghai in four seasons of *** concentrations of oxalate were0.07–0.41 lg/m3in PM2.5and 0.10–0.48 lg/m3in TSP,*** displayed a seasonal variation of autumn[summer[winter[spring in both PM2.5and TSP and was dominantly present in PM2.5in all *** between oxalate and K?and high ratio of oxalate/K?suggested that biomass burning was a secondary source of aerosol oxalate in Shanghai,in addition to urban VOCs sources(vehicular and industrial emissions),especially in *** formation accounted for the majority of aerosol oxalate in Shanghai,which was supported by the high correlation of oxalate with nssSO42-,K?and NO3-,proceeding from different *** high ambient RH together with high cloud cover was found benefiting the secondary formation of aerosol *** in-cloud process(aqueous-phase oxidation)was proposed to be likely the major formation pathway of aerosol oxalate in Shanghai,which was supported by the high correlation of oxalate with nss-SO42-and K?,dominant residence of oxalate in droplet mode and result of favorable meteorological condition *** correlation of oxalate and NO3-reflected the OH radical involved oxidation chemistry of the two species in the atmosphere and also suggested that gas-particle surface reactions and the evaporation–condensation process were both possible secondary formation pathways of aerosol oxalate in coarser particle mode([1.0 lm).As a major water-soluble organic compound in aerosols,concentration of oxalate showed a distinct negative correlation to the atmospheric visibility,which implied that aerosol organic compounds could play an important role in haze pollution as well as in air quality in Shanghai.

There has been growing concern over declines in populations of honey bees and other pollinators which are a vital part to our food security. It is imperative to identify factors responsible for accelerated declines in bee populations and develop solutions for reversing bee losses. While exact causes of colony losses remain elusive, risk factors thought to play key roles are ectoparasitic mites Varroa destructor and neonicotinoid pesticides. The present study aims to investigate effects of a neonicotinoid pesticide Imidacloprid and Varroa mites individually on survivorship, growth, physiology, virus dynamics and immunity of honey bee workers. Our study provides clear evidence that the exposure to sublethal doses of Imidacloprid could exert a significantly negative effect on health and survival of honey bees. We observed a significant reduction in the titer ofvitellogenin （Vg）, an egg yolk precursor that regulates the honey bees development and behavior and often are linked to energy homeostasis, in bees exposed to lmidacloprid. This result indicates that sublethal exposure to neonicotinoid could lead to increased energy usage in honey bees as detoxification is a energy-consuming metabolic process and suggests that Vg could be a useful biomarker for measuring levels of energy stress and sublethal effects of pesticides on honey bees. Measurement of the quantitative effects of different levels of Varroa mite infestation on the replication dynamic of Deformed wing virus （DWV）, an RNA virus associated with Varroa infestation, and expression level of immune genes yields unique insights into how honey bees respond to stressors under laboratory conditions.

Evidence for the existence of monkeys with spontaneous Parkinson’s disease (PD) has been lacking. Here,we screened macaque colonies at the Kunming Primate Research Center(Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care(AAALAC) accredited), Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which has a large population of monkeys (>2400), to identify naturally occurring PD monkeys.

Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIPs)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIPs,they can self-hybridize into E–Ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIP crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIP crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

Background： This preliminary study examined the effects of an 8-week supervised reactive balance training program on reaction time （RT） and foot speed, static balance and balance confidence in healthy older adults compared to an exercise control group. Methods： Twenty-five older adults were randomly assigned to a reactive balance training group （QuickBoard; n = 12; 71.0 ± 8.6 years） or a stationary cycling group （control; n = 13; 70.2 ± 6.0 years）. Both groups were tested for foot RT foot speed, static balance, and balance confidence at baseline, 4-week, 8-week, and 4-week follow-up. Results： Results indicated significant improvements in QuickBoard foot RT and speed in both groups with greater improvements in the QuickBoard group. However, no group difference was found in static balance performance. Conclusion： Although the improvements in RT and foot speed may be beneficial for fall and trip prevention, the implications of the current findings for trio avoidance and oerformance of daily tasks are unclear.

Photosynthetic terpene production represents one of the most carbon and energy-efficient routes for converting CO_(2)into *** photosynthetic organisms,metabolic engineering has led to limited success in enhancing terpene productivity,partially due to the low carbon *** this study,we employed systems biology analysis to reveal the strong competition for carbon substrates between primary metabolism(e.g.,sucrose,glycogen,and protein synthesis)and terpene biosynthesis in Synechococcus elongatus PCC *** then engineered key“source”and“sink”***“source”limitation was overcome by knocking out either sucrose or glycogen biosynthesis to significantly enhance limonene production via altered carbon ***,a fusion enzyme complex with geranyl diphosphate synthase(GPPS)and limonene synthase(LS)was designed to further improve pathway kinetics and substrate *** synergy between“source”and“sink”achieved a limonene titer of 21.0 mg/***,the study demonstrates that balancing carbon flux between primary and secondary metabolism can be an effective approach to enhance terpene bioproduction in *** design of“source”and“sink”synergy has significant potential in improving natural product yield in photosynthetic species.

We report in this study the identification of a natural product-like antagonist(1a) of Vps34 as a potent autophagy modulator via structure-based virtual screening. Aurone derivative 1a strongly inhibited Vps34 activity in cell-free and cell-based assays. Significantly, 1a prevents autophagy in human cells induced either by starvation or by an mT OR inhibitor. In silico modeling and kinetic data revealed that 1a could function as an ATP-competitive inhibitor of Vps34. Moreover, it suppressed autophagy in vivo and without inducing heart or liver damage in mice. 1a could be utilized as a new motif for more selective and efficacious antagonists of Vps34 for the potential treatment of autophagy-related human diseases.
