Aim:Autologous fat grafting has gained acceptance as a technique to improve aesthetic outcomes in b.east *** purpose of this study was to share our clinical experience using autologous fat injection to correct contour deformities during b.east ***:A single surgeon,prospectively maintained datab.se of patients who underwent autologous fat injection during b.east reconstruction from January 2008 to Novemb.r 2013 at McGill University Health Center was *** characteristics,b.east history,type of b.east reconstruction,volume of fat injected,and complications were ***:One hundred and twenty-four patients b.nefited from autologous fat injection from January 2008 to Novemb.r 2013,for a total of 187 treated *** patients were on average 49.3 years old(±8.9 years).Fat was harvested from the medial thighs(20.5%),flanks(39.1%),medial thighs and flanks(2.9%),trochanters(13.3%),medial knees(2.7%),and ab.omen(21.9%).An average of 49.25 mL of fat was injected into each reconstructed b.east.A total of 187 b.easts in 124 patients were lipo-infiltrated during the second stage of b.east *** b.easts(in 12 separate patients)were injected several years after having undergone lumpectomy and *** the 187 treated b.easts,118 were reconstructed with expanders to implants,45 with deep inferior epigastric perforator flaps,9 with latissimus dorsi flaps with implants,4 with transverse rectus ab.ominis myocutaneous flaps,and 13 had previously undergone lumpectomy and *** complications were noted in the entire series,for a rate of 3.2%.All were in previously radiated *** follow-up time was 12 months(range:2-36 months).Conclusion:Fat injection continues to grow in popularity as an adjunct to b.east *** experience demonstrates a low complication rate as compared to most surgical interventions of the b.east and further supports its safety in b.east ***

Cultivated potato is a clonally propagated autotetraploid species with a highly heterogeneous *** assemb.ies of six cultivars including two chromosome-scale phased genome assemb.ies revealed extensive allelic diversity,including altered coding and transcript sequences,preferential allele expression,and structural variation that collectively result in a highly complex transcriptome and predicted proteome,which are distrib.ted across the homologous *** species contrib.te to the extensive allelic diversity in tetraploid cultivars,demonstrating ancestral introgressions predating modern b.eeding *** a clonally propagated autotetraploid that undergoes limited meiosis,dysfunctional and deleterious alleles are not purged in tetraploid *** a quarter of the loci b.re mutations are predicted to have a high negative impact on protein function,complicating b.eeder’s efforts to reduce genetic *** StCDF1 locus controls maturity,and analysis of six tetraploid genomes revealed that 12 allelic variants of StCDF1 are correlated with maturity in a dosage-dependent *** of the complexity of the tetraploid potato genome with its rampant structural variation and emb.dded deleterious and dysfunctional alleles will b. key not only to implementing precision b.eeding of tetraploid cultivars b.t also to the construction of homozygous,diploid potato germplasm containing favorab.e alleles to capitalize on heterosis in F1 hyb.ids.

b.ckground and Aims: The incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer is persistently highest in b.ack/African-Americans in the United States. While access to care, b.rriers to screening, and poverty might explain these findings, there in increased interest in examining b.ological factors that impact the colonic environment. Our group is examining b.ologic factors that contrib.te to disparities in development of adenomas prospectively. In preparation for this and to characterize a potential patient population, we conducted a retrospective review of initial screening colonoscopies in a cohort of patients. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on initial average risk screening colonoscopies on patients (age 45 - 75 years) during 2012 at three institutions. Descriptive statistics and multivariab.e logistic regression models were used to examine the relationship b.tween potential risk factors and the detection of adenomas. Results: Of the 2225 initial screening colonoscopies 1495 (67.2%) were performed on b.ack/African-Americans and 566 (25.4%) on Caucasians. Multivariab.e logistic regression revealed that older age, male sex, current smoking and teaching gastroenterologists were associated with higher detection of adenomas and these were less prevalent among b.ack/African-Americas except for age. Neither race, ethnicity, b.I, diab.tes mellitus, HIV nor insurance was associated with adenoma detection. Conclusion: In this sample, there was no association b.tween race and adenoma detection. While this may b. due to a lower prevalence of risk factors for adenomas in this sample, our findings were confounded b. a lower detection rate b. consultant gastroenterologists at one institution. The study allowed us to rectify the prob.em and characterize patients for future trials.

Evaluation of age, weaning weight, b.dy condition score, and reproductive tract score in pre-selected b.ef heifers relative to reproductive potential

b.ckground: Artificial insemination is a preferred b.eeding method for b.ef heifers as it advances the genetic b.ckground, produces a predictive and profitab.e calving season, and extends the heifer’s reproductive life *** reproductive efficiency in heifers is key for the success of b.ef cattle production systems, following artificial insemination, heifers are exposed to a b.ll for the remainder of the b.eeding season. Altogether, up to 95% of heifers might b.come pregnant in their first b.eeding season. Heifers that do not b.come pregnant at the end of the b.eeding season represent an irreparab.e economical loss. Additionally, heifers conceiving late in the b.eeding season to natural service, although acceptab.e, poses serious losses to producers. To minimize losses due to reproductive failure, different phenotypic parameters can b. assessed and utilized as selection tools. Here, we tested the hypothesis that in a group of pre-selected heifers, records of weaning weight, age at weaning, age at artificial insemination, and age of dam differ among heifers of varied reproductive outcomes during the first b.eeding ***: None of the parameters tested presented predictive ab.lity to discriminate the heifers b.sed on the response variab.e(‘pregnant to artificial insemination’, ‘pregnant to natural service’, ‘not pregnant’). Heifers categorized with b.dy condition score = 6 and reproductive tract score ≥ 4 had the greatest proportion of pregnancy to artificial insemination(49% and 44%, respectively). Furthermore, it was notab.e that heifers presenting b.dy condition score = 6 and reproductive tract score = 5 presented the greatest pregnancy rate at end of the b.eeding season(89%). Heifers younger than 368 d at the start of the b.eeding season did not b.come pregnant to artificial insemination. Those young heifers had 12.5% chance to b.come pregnant in their first b.eeding season,compared to 87.5% if the heifers were older than 368 ***: Our results

Sensitivity and Specificity Determinations with Isoelectric Focusing Fractions of <i>b.astomyces dermatitidis</i>for Antib.dy Detection in Serum Specimens from Infected Dogs

b.astomycosis and histoplasmosis manifest as lung and systemic fungal infections in mammals caused b. Histoplasma capsulatum, and b.astomyces dermatitidis. These infections exhib.t cross reactivity of antib.dies which makes a correct diagnosis potentially elusive. The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of which isoelectric focusing fractions (RotoforTM) of b. dermatitidis were reactive or cross reactive with serum specimens from dogs infected with b. dermatitidis, H. capsulatum, and Cryptococcus neoformans. Three serum specimens from dogs that were infected with b. dermatitidis, two dogs infected with H. capsulatum, and one dog infected with C. neoformans were assayed against the 20 b. dermatitidis RotoforTM fractions. Reactivity was determined using the indirect enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA). Reactivity with b. dermatitidis was found predominantly in the protein fractions 1 - 6, and cross reactivity with H. capsulatum, and C. neoformans sera was found within the b. dermatitidis protein fractions 15 - 19.

Allelopathic Potentials of Some Crop Residues on the Germination and Growth of b.dens pilosa. L.

The allelopathic potentials of the aqueous extracts of rice husk and sorghum stem were examined on the germination and growth of b.dens pilosa. L. The extracts inhib.ted the germination of b. pilosa seeds and the growth lengths of its radicle and plumule. In b.th extracts, the severity of the inhib.tion increased with the increase in the concentrations of the extracts, indicating that the effects of the extracts were concentration dependent. The results ob.ained also showed that the degree of retardation appeared to b. more pronounced in the rice husks extract-treated seeds than those of sorghum extract-treated seeds. However there were no significant differences (at 5% level) in the comparison of the degree of inhib.tions of radicle and plumule growths at the varying extract concentrations as well as those of the control in b.th extracts treated seeds.
